My old man can confirm that Vinny was a cheap shot expert...don't know about just going after the smaller types though..
Bullshit !!! Vinny handed out plenty and copped plenty. The ledger was squared.
Waite was pretty tough and used to bust packs open as I recall - however there is a school of thought that when he was really needed to stand up in that 1973 Grand Final - (after Balme KO'd Southby and Fowler ironed out Big Nick) that Vin Waite went missing - unfortunately I dont have a very good memory when it comes to our losing Grand Finals

- Warby maybe be able to clear this up.
It wasn't just Nick and Southby that got hammered, Vin Waite and Phil Pinnell also copped ''bell ringers'' that would have stopped anybody in their tracks.
This all went on under the nose of the umpire, Ian Robinson, who chose for reasons known only to him, to do SFA about it.
Sheedy was even quoted recently as saying what he did to Pinnell was unacceptable, and the incident was one that he regretted. A big admission coming from him.
It was open season on Carlton players that day, and Robinson's inaction played no small part in the result. But to lay the blame on Vin Waite is neither right nor fair.
Thanks for clearing that up Murray - as I said - I was only passing this on as a school of thought - this is one of the rare GF's that I did not ever go to and one that I certainly dont want to look back at the reply of.
Richmond certainly went in and made sure they took out anyone who could fly the flag - and snot rags like Balme and Sheedy were and are turds.
Umpire Robinson always had it in for Carlton - it took David Parkin to come to Carlton to invite Ian Robinson to training one night to have a beer with the players and clear the air as to why - but even then the outer used cringe everytime Robinson's name went up on the scoreboard as the umpire of the day.
