Good on Fev for going on the front foot and admitting to it voluntarily. Shows that he is becoming more mature and knows that he has to set an example.

Although travelling at 60km/hr at a 40km/hr zone is not a huge story, it just shows that the man knows it is serious enough and that he's done the wrong thing.

Well done Fev. You are making me look very silly for wanting you traded last season. Keep up the good work!

He did the wrong thing - it doesnt matter if he was travelling at 60km, or if he was on a highway - he did the wrong thing, broke the law and should be punished no more or less than your average Joe - demerit points/fine etc.

However, in terms of PR I hope the club send him off to to community service at Primary schools (maybe be a lollipop lady for a few weeks) to reinforce the fact that he is remorseful and acknowledges he did the wrong thing.

The media print what the public wants - if nobody read the stories, they wouldnt print them. Given that Fev has the capacity to be a human headline, he has to accept that if he screws up, its going to be under public scrutiny.

Nice to see him/the club handling the situation better than in the past, but there shouldn't be a situation to manage.

I am the first to have a go at Fev when he does something wrong/stupid. but this is a shocker of a story to report.

Whilst not condoning speeding near schools, it is bloody hard driving 40kmh - I've tried it and I have a really hard time with it.

The club reacting so swiftly was more about them getting on the front foot because they know the media over-reacts on 'stories' like this.

I would imagine that Alex normally picks up Mia after school and it was only becuase she was in Adelaide that Fev did.

There is absolutely nothing to see here.

overreation by melbelle, I wonder if you would say the same thing if Ang did it?

Regardless, clearly an innocent mistake - if you know where it happened you would sympathise with him.

How many players get speed camera fines and nothing is reported, they don't have to do any community service - neither should fev.

Lets make this clear - this is nothing like S Johnsons 70 over the limit.

that's the most pleasing thing to come out of this. I thought he handled himself extremely well. Admitted he did the wrong thing & made no excuses for his behaviour & also let the club know straight away to avoid a huge controversy.

I dont care who does it - breaking the law is breaking the law, and yes speed limits around schools are difficult to follow - but there is a reason they are there....have you not seen the latest TAC ad? This time of year Preps are finishing school earlier in the day so 2pm it is likely people will be about.

I think Fev doing community service would be good PR - a great way to turn the story into a positive. He doesn't have many runs on the board (credibility/responsibility) and such an activity would be a good way to highlight his remorse and promote awareness of the issue. I'm not suggesting it as a punishment, I'm suggesting it as an activity that would have a postive outcome for the club, and enhance Fevs reputation.

Fev knows that anything he does is going to be scrutinised - its a double edged sword, it means he gets to earn 200k+ a year to kick a piece of leather, go on the footy show, promote his additional business interests and be exposed to other opportunities that he wouldnt otherwise receive - nevermind thefact that his wife has certainly used that public interest to further her own ambitions.... I dont think anyone held a gun to their head and made them go on ACA.. In return for this you accept that your actions will be scrutinised more than the general public, and players that have a lower media profile.. if you're smart you make sure that there's nothing to scrutinise.

I'm not saying hang him - but I'm not defending his actions either.... simply suggesting that in this situation there are possibilities for smart, effective PR.

Dunno what slack preps you know, but none finish at 2pm at any school I know of (some do have the entire day off on Wed though) :)

My son finished 1pm first week. 2pm second week and 3.25pm third and subsequent weeks..... no days off.... so it is possible other schools might have shorter days first term.

..i don't think there's individual times that speed reductions comes into effect, i think it's pretty much a general 8am-9.30am & 2.30pm-4pm for school zones.. ..of course, there's a school on high st rd b/w huntingdale and warrigal rd that doesn't actually have any speed reduction..??.. ..weird hey..

..but seriously, they're a crock.. ..they're just there for all the fat lazy sweaty arse 4wd mamma's that can't be bothered parking a little ways away and hoofin' it a bit to pick up their kid, so instead will park right out front en-masse, a stinkin' convoy of toorak tractors that become a wall for the lil' kiddies to dart out from..
