Look, sympathy to Stevo (and Simpson... who would also have made an excellent choice), but this was a no-brainer for the club, and they have done the right thing.

The young lads now have a man who they can follow into the cauldron, knowing that he has done everything he possibly can to be the best footballer that he possibly can be. Without getting drawn into negativity, there have been times in the past we haven't been able to say that about our leaders.

Now it is up to Murph, Gibbs, Kreuzer, and Pfeiffer :-D to work their butts off to be Chris Judd's successor as Captain of the Glorious Carlton Football Club in five or six seasons.

I've had opposition supporters chase me down at work ever since this was announced (10 minutes ago  ) and are calling us everything under the sun. Envy is not a dirty word.

I like how Sticks gets rolled out occassionally now, unlike before.

Great news for the club and massive congrats to Chris Judd and Nick Stevens for leading the greatest and most successful football club in VFL/AFL history.

Yup, I concur, very happy with this decision.

Captain Judd of the Carlton Football Club has a lovely ring to it.

If any carlton supporters from here feel like calling SEN to complain about the appointment, perhaps you should get your arses over to the membership tearers at Punt Road. Today is a day for celebration, nothing else.

All that matters is that JUDD is our new leader.

Congrats to JUDD. :-D

Congrats to Judd & Stevens. This has to be the best Captain/Vice Captain combination in the AFL. What does everyone else think?

P.S. The morons on BF are going to have a field with this.

Stevens probably knocked back the captaincy because he's still on the way to Collingwood.

That theory is on the burner as Judd is on his way to Collingwood as well.

Richmond in box seat. Mark it down.

What I hope happens this year, what I really hope to see, if Chris Judd edify the young players, in particular the young midfielders like Walker and Gibbs and Murphy, to really take the game on. Judd was a blistering player from day one. Yes he has unrivalled speed in-close, but I hope players like Gibbs will learn to take the game and the opposition player on more, once they see Juddy doing it. All it might take is one single action of brilliance from Chris, to give the young players the confidence they have been yearning for.

This decision is right. Whether he has been there five minutes or five years misses the point by the length of a Craig Bradley torpedo. Our club has been crying out for true leadership since players of the ilk of the current coach and Andrew McKay left. There can be no greater symbolism for escaping from our wilderness years than bestowing the captaincy upon Juddy's shoulders. The club's youth have already embraced him and we should as well.

Roll on Round 1. Have already booked the Doormat family on the plane for the match against the Tiggers. Cannot wait!
