Stick him in charge of the Bullants next year. JK should be given a further run at CHF and with lance and fev playing in the forward line JK doesn't get a look in. He can then provide his leadership and smarts to the kids in the twos every week.

Here's the article, which contains a couple of other interesting snippets...

Um...it's from july 17, 2003
Seems to be the only thing I can find online about his knee .. also suggests its an ongoing issue, not like Kouta's problem

So if it's no different to 12 mths ago, he should go......the game has passed him by, and if he can't kick over 40m he's no good to us.

put him on an incentive based contract where its no play no pay and he doesn't accept it then give him a decent farewell at a club function in the future.

Still have to pay him a base salary even if he doesn't pay a match if he stays on the list.

Do you still want him on the list now?

It's time to play JK, not Lance.

And if we take Kruezer, there's also another big guy who can spend some time up forward.

If he had a good work ethic, I'd say he'd be good to have around the place to teach these kids. But slacking off over summer isn't something I want on the curriculum at Carlton.

Sad but looks like a pretty big gamble to sign him up for another year IMHO...

His knee is the same therefore it is worse?

What? Who? Can anyone not find that confusing?

his knee is the same, but his performance would be worse.

not mutually exclusive.

If the knee is degenerative, 12 months on, could "the same" mean the knee has become worse within expectations, therefore enabling Lance's physical capabilities to also decline as one may expect with his condition?

Taking it as his knee is virtually the same as 12 months ago, suggests it is, in fact, better.

Furthermore his condition is supposed to be degenerative... and yet it's allegedly looking the same as 12 months ago. So that's pretty positive from Lance's perspective, especially considering that it WAS worse at some stage this season.

So I fail to see any logic which points to Lance being worse off if the knee has shown no signs of deterioration. You can't apply a rule of thumb when medical advice says otherwise.

EDIT: Bah CB, I was posting first dammit.

If his knee is the same as 12 months ago then it is not a degenerative knee.

Either that it has stopped degenerating

Lance's performance has been OK in some games and poor in others. With a knee that is not going to improve but which may in fact get worse then I don't see the value to the club in keeping him on the playing list.

put him on a performance based contract, we need the experience at the club as he is one of our most experienced players, he only needs 10 possi to make a impact on a game because he is so smart rarly makes clangers except for kickin for goal. still be handy in my view.

Just sack the bogan :x

the guy has taken the piss since 2000 and be rewarded ridiculous sums for the shocking example he has set. And let's not dredge up the B&F, we all know that's a joke

but no, can't hurt lances feelings, let's all pretend and let him down nicely. Oh, poor Lance....I am sick of this pathetic mentality shown by the club and supporters toward the guy. One rule for Lance, one for everyone else.

Can we please not turn this into another drawn out whitnall saga, FFS. Wasn't the debacle earlier this year enough?

If Matty Lappin was forced into retirement for the good of the list going forward, then that's ok. If he was forced into retirement so we can squeeze another season or two out of Lance giving him recovery weeks and a specialised reduced training load, then that's just a steaming load of shite.

Vetrans get old and their bodies wear out, it's par for the course. And when you start as young as Lance and pay as much disrespect to maintaining yourself as Lance does then you're probably going to cost yourself the last year or two of your career. I think Ben Cousins said it best: Such is Life.

When you've got a dynamic old bloke who can't train but still adds class to a performing team, then you keep them on, just like we did with Diesel. Lance is being carried and has been all year; he's no longer needed on the park. If he's as fantastic as everyone says he is around the club then he should be kept on in mentor or assistant role next season.
