Two words: Tim Watson.

I'm voting for Voss because i used to love watching him 'direct' traffic on-field more so than JUST be a Captain.

Tim Watson was a terrific player AND leader, but Voss was almost like a on-field coach.

Although being a Carlton suppoter, i used to go for Fitzroy so i do have a soft spot for the lions so i used to head along to games at the Gabba every so often whilst living in Brisbane. Alot of the times, i just used to watch Voss go about his business.

One of the best games i ever saw him play believe it or not he only had about 15 possesions. I think it was vs StKilda and he was shut-out! But it was the direction and effect he had on the players that won them the game.

Voss has been a coach for the past 5 years in my eyes! And although directing play on the field is a little different than in the coaches box, i have no doubt he can be a premiership winning coach if he has a good group of assistants working along side him.

Mark Harvey maybe should be on there too. After today, he'd probably think its an easy gig (couldn't get worse).

Seriously Harvey (with Robert Shaw at his side) might be worth consideration. I voted Ratten and I suspect that he will get a chance before the season is out, but Harvey worth a thought when considering next year and beyond.

It's pretty damning for Denis Pagan. Only 4 out of 125 have voted for him to stay on. A landslide.

I feel the most important quality our next coach needs to have is the ability to instill discipline and toughness into the list. This is what we lack plenty of. That's why the Tim Watson argument doesnt hold for me. Watson was a receiver type player not very hard at it. Ken judge another example of that type which never made it as a coach.

However you look at guys like Worsfold, Malthouse, Roos, Mathews, Clarkson and even Daniher were all hard at it types who performed that way week in week out. These types seem more likely to get the respect of their players as they teach from example...i.e.what they preach is what they practiced.

Therefore you look at current candidates for the Carlton job and I see the following guys who meet that criteria:

Mckenna
Ratten
SOS
and IMO the No. 1 candidate VOSS

Apparently if anything, Judge was too hard on his players. He would be in the Pagan mould in the school of you are a 'coach' and not a 'friend'. Not the best of communicators i have heard ...

Pagan is Gone by seasons end, nearly impossible to win 10 from here.

I was on the Voss wagon until i saw him throw a 'sneaky rat' punch on the news, respect level has dropped for him. I'd favour Guy Mckenna or Ratts. their CV's and playing acheivments do the talking.

The only VFL/AFL coach never to have punched another bloke would probably be Ian Stewart.

..yeah, i'm wary of Voss now as well.. ..lookit, the video footage does him no justice, though without knowing the full details of the entire night it's hard to fully judge, it doesn't look good for Vossy though.. ..regardless, we're trying to clean up the club, too many of our players have lately been in trouble with the law, we don't need to bring in a coach that's charged with assault..

bah he can teach us how not to be soft and how to fly the flag and have some flower comraderie around the place - a bit of agro and white line fever wouldnt go astray - nor would some pride in the bloody jumper.

some cock threw a pool ball at his mate - so voss went after him - maybe not the entirely smartest thing to do - but you hit my mate - your goin down

as long as its kept to the field - its a trait we could do with more of

Are you on drugs?? How many years of non-success do you need to see to get it.

I don't want this guy anywhere near our club. We've learnt our lesson. Let's get a good coach!
