Mark,

Its a great pity that Stephen Icke wasn't around in October last year when some of our so called experts stupidly decided to recruit Ackland on a 3 year deal.

Great news about the 9 hotels. Hopefully the performance on the field can match that of the current board.

I think he'd been moved aside when they took Tarrant and Solly.

Hey, I guessed just like the rest of you. I knew we had gone past the record but Swannie kept it quiet from everyone because he didn't want complacency to set in. Come to think of it I reckon we were running ads saying we needed 100 more to break the record when we were probably 1000 over. Some of those Collingwood traits are proving handy !!!

CARLTON has landed what it says is the biggest off-field deal in football history in acquiring a risk-free stake in nine major hotels around Melbourne. The club says the pub-led revival will help it wipe its $8 million debt as well as set it up as a league financial benchmark by the time Richard Pratt ends his presidency.

Blues chief executive Greg Swann, who approved the deal after it was brought to his attention by club director Mark Harrison, said the investment would officially begin Carlton's financial recovery.

"It is an opportunity for the club to get back on to its feet, it will give us a real impetus," Swann said yesterday.

"The bottom line is over the journey we would expect to make anywhere between $5 and $10 million dollars in the next four or five years from this.

"We think this is the biggest off-field deal in footy.

"Collingwood has got four pubs and we have got nine. There are a couple more (hotels) that could come in to the deal, too, but we are not factoring them in just yet."

:-D

So that's how Pratt got Swann across from Collingwood, more hotels than the filth.

Our family often goes to Anglers for a meal. Guess we'll have to make it more regular.

kudos to Mark Harrison and the other board members involved

Good pub to have a meal if you have kids.

Plenty of room for them to run around and they have a good little room with activities for the kids there (no not the pokies).

The Anglers - just down the track. Sounds good for an investment - a pot at a time.

It'll be good to finally have a Carlton presence in the eastern suburbs (Re: Croydon Hotel). What's annoyed me in the past is that this part of Melb doesn't seem to have a very high number of Blues fans (everyone it seems is Collingwood, Essendon* or Hawthorn).

At least they'll be able to feed our coffers....little do they know when they celebrate a win or drown their sorrows after a loss they will go to the Croydon for a few....

That group of hotels was started up by a guy by the name of Sam Castello......pretty good for a former Springvale panel beater. His first hotel was the Chelsea Hotel. He got in just before pokies were introduced and it just went "Whoosh" from there.A real humble little guy from humble beginnings who has done very well for himself........
PS........the Chelsea is my local.Like Sam,i am formerlly from Springy.Sam and i go back a long way.
