In today's HS article re Walker and Kennedy sign for 2 years, there's mention of:

"Gibbs and Murphy already locked up" [by contracts]....I thought Murphy was 2 years (ends 2007) yet other posters have suggested 3 or 5 yrs.

"Simpson recently signed" I though he had another year (2008) to run with his contract and that was done last year.

Good news is that Stevens has agreed to terms pending on medical results.

How many teams would Houlihan be in the starting 22?

Regards Cazzesman

all Clubs i would think along with at least maybe Stevens,Scotland,Fevola,Waite,Thornton,Simpson,Fisher,Murphy,Walker and possibly Gibbs and Carrazzo now while Kouta and Lappin would be handy also if they had them years back.

How many premiership contenders would put up with his lack of intensity?

If you're going to clean out the team of

aged legs
lacking pace
lacking required skill
lacking intensity
lacking stamina

and,

you make a strong decision to delist or trade Houlihan (who I wouldn't dismiss so lightly), then I'd have to add the following tried players on the list to delist/ trade

Wiggins
Bannister
Blackwell
Bentick
Lappin
Betts

...although I don't believe we should delist/ trade the above, but if we're going to delist players that don't fit a certain criteria, and Houlihan is put in the spotlight, then why not put all the 'borderline' players under the same spotlight?

Would you trade Houlihan because you think you would receive a 4th round pick for him?...and because we couldn't because get anything for that group I have listed?

Without putting words into your mouth, are you suggesting that the group I've listed are weaker propositions than Houlihan, but you still want to retain them, or, if we get rid of Houlihan and keep my abovementioned list on the team list, we would be a better team?

That would give Carlton 12 new players to choose from for 2008, so I know it isn't going to happen. Just wondering why the Houlihan trade.

What if no one wants Houlihan? I don't believe that would be the case, but what if?

BB, the re-introduction of the Carlton 2s next year will have a big bearing on next years list IMO.
We need to keep a certain amount of solid big-bodied types who are good role models for our young draftees to learn from.
Therefore I’d retain Lappo Wiggo & Banno on the understanding that they’ll be leaders in the 2’s and backups for the 1s when injuries occur. I’d expect them to accept that as I see them as true Carlton people.

Here’s an early look at next years line-ups…

2008 AFL CARLTON

B. Anderson S.O’hAilpin Thornton(L)
HB. Scotland(L) Waite Flint
C. Stevens(VC) Carrazzo Grigg
HF. Gibbs(L) Kennedy Simpson(L)
F. Edwards Fevola Fisher
R. A.O’hAilpin Walker(L) Murphy(C)

I. Russell Jackson Benjamin Cloke

2008 VFL CARLTON

B. Young(R1) Jamison(R3) DP3
HB. Bower Austin Bannister(VC)
C. Raso Wiggins(VC) DP1
HF. Lappin(C)(V) Hartlett DP2
F. Betts Ackland DP4
R. Hampson Bentick(L) Blackwell

I. Jacobs(R2) DP5 Rookie4 Rookie5

DP# = Draft Pick
R# = Rookie
C = Captain
VC = Vice Captain
L = Leadership Group
V = Veterans List

…oh, and as far as Houla goes, if no-one will trade for him then I’d let him sublimely ‘walk’ to Punt Road or Juction Oval …

Wiggo may be a Carlton man but when he is delisted he wont stay. If he doesn't get picked up by another club he'll be playing for Tassie in the VFL because he is the sort of player they would kill for.
Lappin might stay because of his age. He is not likely tp be picked up by another club. Bannister is still young and could earn a good living playing VFL, SANFL or coutry footy. I can't imagne him staying for the love of a club that has cut him loose after giving his all. But who knows.
Personally I think both he and Wiggo will play a lot of games in the next year and a half. If they get pushed out by a young kid coming through that will be great but that isn't happening just yet.

My understanding of the makeup of the VFL team next year is that it will consist of Senior listed players, Veteran listed players, Rookies and nominated TAC Cup supplementary players.
So no need to delist Wiggo & Banno from the Senior list AFAIC.
