I see the Reserves being played at MC Hammer Oval. Cost should be covered by bigger crowds and social club revenues for the day hopefully. With the club also lobying to return games against interstate teams to MC Hammer Oval, double headers could well be on the agenda like Geelong does :-D

Mmm so how many times has Pratt already said that he can see PP being used for Football again?

This proposal ticks off tooo many boxes to not go ahead...

Ground as a venue
Development of youngs
Resolving Pagan Mitchell
and still to come
Community venue and upgrade with commercial section 8)

Not as ironic as rain on your wedding day.

I'll be very happy when all our players wear the CFC jumper again.

At least I can barrack for my team and see all of the 2nd 22 team at the one venue whenever I'm in Melbourne rather than missing out on the players in the Ants' reserves.

Furthermore, MC Labour Park is a great ground to play on for the players and good from a spectator point of view.

Finally, I can continue hating the Ray Shaw Bullants again, although I can't barrack for my old VFA team, the Zebras, whilst they are a Melb FC 2nds team, that's half a win.

Bo Blues Twos.

Getting a reserves side up and running next year is a must as far as I'm concerned, for all the obvious reasons. What I am a little hazy on is where we draw the the ''top up players'' from. Can someone enlighten me?

POST SCRIPT......What concerns me is if we play blokes with AFL experience, whether it be with Carlton or whoever, would their monetary arrangements be separate to the salary cap ? The others ofcourse would be from assorted TAC and metro and country sides invited to try out.
I just don't want to give Andrew and his henchmen another excuse to have a crack at us.

I'd say so, but possibly a seperate cap?

It's a bit different from when it was essentially ammos with a set fee.

Rambo keep your smartarse comments to yourself. I live in the Northern suburbs and the majority of Carlton's support comes from there. If you have anything against us do not make it public here.

I don't know whether that is correct or not, but I would bet it's wrong.

There maybe a lot of the previous generations barracking for Carlton who originated from there, but I doubt they didn't get in the way of gentrification, and now live elsewhere.

I was a Zebra supporter, but no longer barrack for them, due to their affiliation with MFC, and despite that I take an interest in the Bullants, but I cant barrack for them.

When focussing on the northern suburbs of the city...I bet a Northcote supporter despised The Bullants and Brunswick-Preston games were the derby and they hated each other; yet they may have all been Carlton supporters.

Indie, relating to your previous posts:

It's hard to tell when you're being sarcastic, but it seems as though you're saying that the very same excuses you say are unacceptable for Pagan ARE acceptable for Mitchell. Also, Mitchell would not have had as much to do with Walker, Murphy and Gibbs as Pagan.

Can't make up my mind about Pagan, but let him do his thing this season.

Look we are the navy blues not red and white,i just hate the Sydney Swans colors and hate seeing our players playing in those colors, hopefully they all play for Carlton next year in our side in the VFL,no more 10/12 monkey rule and the start of our club rising up the ladder as i bet we will start to move up the ladder, hopefully with a new coach in both position, league and Reserves.
I'm not taking a shot at the Northern suburbs,i don't know them,i just hate the stupid Ant and colors that's all.

Hun article

Quote:
PLAYING at Princes Park is a major factor in Carlton's decision to field its own side in the VFL next season.

Blues chief executive Greg Swann said yesterday the club was more likely than not to break with the Northern Bullants to field its reserves side in the VFL.

:-D

That is great.

With the right type of marketing they could get some pretty decent crowds to PP.

This is where the true development of our list will occur - getting our borderline players to play with the methodologies required for our AFL side rather than trying to learn them in the pressure cooker of the AFL situation and getting continually smashed, as well as their confidence.

Agree totally.

And Jars, I hope that the marketing does happen, unlike the marketing done to the supporters....

This is an appealing idea, but with no increase in lists, it presents its own problems. At the moment, we have a list of 38 + 5 rookies, which meant that if we had a reserves team, we'd need to top up at least 1 or 2 a week. However, we have an injury list of approx. 11 at the moment, which means that half the seconds side would be short-term top-ups. This is the biggest problem, when you have to scour local leagues and the TAC comp for top-ups who may play one week, or, in the case of replacements for people like McLaren or Teague, 6 weeks to a season.

A benefit of this scenario is Carlton can invite young players from the local leagues to top up the team and at the same time have a good look at them and determine if they have potential to make the AFL.

I know a player named Jarrod Waite who played a couple of games as a top up player for the Carlton VFL side before he was drafted under the F/S rule.

It gives Carlton complete control again and can only benefit the club.

Bit ironic really just came home after 4 days up Falls Creek.

But unlike our fellow Demon supporters I went up AFTER our game against Melbourne.

Apparently I was banned for week as well so the timing couldn't have been better (as Mrs Agro banned the lap top 8) ).
