I am not a houlihan fan by any stretch of the imagination, but he has bulked up since last year and is playing some good football. I hated him last year.

The problem with Houla is that he is being played out of position. He is a half forward/mid and should never ever be played anywhere in or near defensive 50. Even when we flood (God forbid) he should be that one man standing alone up forward. Houla is a great front runner and receiver similar to Campo but only softer. If you play him to his strengths you will get the best from him. Otherwise he can be very costly. His accountability is crap at best.

Again players have improved as individuals but it means jacksh1t if we don't improve as a team. Big difference. Young players will improve due to natural progression (age, marurity, experience of playing & training, learning)but as a team we hamstrung by a poor coach with a poor game plan with players development stifled by being played out of position.

Great point Jim. We have not improved as a team, that why we sit where we are. We are just fortunate Melbourne are having a poor season due to injury cause we would be 2nd last.

I have been saying for years that Houlihan is in no shape or form a defender. Play him on the half forward line, he will be much more damaging there.

Russell has improved so much that he got dropped this week, about time also.

Corrected for accuracy.

Houlihan - Yes

Waite - No. Still inconsistent. Beats Riewold but gets smashed by Cloke.

houlihan- yes, YES I cannot see why anyone thinks he has improved. HE GETS KILLED IN THE BACKLINE EVERY WEEK, IN AND OUT! Who's man lifted and kicked a ton against us last week? Houlihan's. I don't see why Pagan doesn't drop him!!!

As for Waite, well he doesn't get a proper go anywhere. Week in week out he gets thrown from Key Back to Key Forward. I mean really, how can someone get used to and get better at a position if they can't get into a routine! I say leave him at CHB and be done with it. He's good there and he'll grow into a great Key Backline player!!!
