As I have said on other occassions, Lance will not be a part of the new Carlton.

What we are watching right now are the reasons why this will be the case.

Or prehaps what we're watching now is a guy coming back from injury and being slowly introduced to top line footy pitchhitting off our six man interchange bench.

A lot of the comments on this thread are just strange. The guy was B&F last year, was robbed of a spot in the All Australian team, has been made the new captain, and is recovering from an injury that effected his pre season training... yet people are whinging because he's not dominating in the NAB Cup???

If he's still struggling in round 1 and 2 then be concerned. Until then...

Gee! What kind of a supporter are you??

Bagging the captain is a true blue sport these days for us Carlton fans, remember last year when the huge "disaster" of Kouta re-signing happened?

Seriously I read more and more :garthp: stuff here everyday.

Yep.

Good post Andaino!

You two need to get with the program, anyone who is over 24 years and are not at the Nathan Buckley/Tony Lockett level are no good. We should just trade them and wait for our young top draft picks to emerge. Once they hit their mid 20s if Gibbs and Murph are not playing like Robert Harvey then we'll @#$%&! them off as well.

Now lets get this straight.
Lance isnt a Buckley or a Harvey..He isnt a Crawford or a Bradshaw.
He isnt a Brad Johnson or a Westy... He isnt Hirdy or a G Train...He isnt a Grant or a Richo.....as a matter of fact he aint their jock strap and theyre all over 30.....

Hes just this bloke that cant run.. cant jump and cant play a frontline role...

It's not bad news if he plays well but it could cost somone like Anthony Raso off the list because thee is a minium of 3 players in all clubs to be delisted and 2 guys we know are heading that way from 2005 Wizard Cup and then a guy who has had a lot of injuries late, then we will at least put one or two from the rookies on our list and have more then 3 picks.

Regardless of opinions on Whitnall's on-field performance, how do you rate his off-field performance as captain when he's nowhere to be seen and they keep bringing out the ex-captain and the should-have-been-captain as the spokespeople for the club instead.

That's a good point GH. We all know why he isn't talking to the media to discuss footy issues....and the media will continue to hound him for more speculation regarding his family spat.

Sad as it is, he can't keep shying away from the media as Carlton Captain. There's only one way out of this predicament; hand the captaincy to Stevens, or face the music with the media (which will result in the Carlton Brand being associated with unnecessary negative gutter reporting).

That's Life. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

Carlton probably keep bringing out Kouta and Stevens because they want the media talking positively about the footy side of the Carlton football club rather than obssessing about the captain private life. Currently Lance would do the club more harm than good talking to the media. You have to be realistic about these sort of things.

When its all blown over I'm sure we'll see more Lance in the media.

captain is just a title, IMO it's irrelevent who is named captain, you don't need to have a title to be a true leder

stevens not getting the job might just give him the spur to prove a few people wrong and having stevens at his best can only be a good things for the club

I think stevens handles the media a lot better than lance does but these days the media committments are shared by by all the players.

Actually Andain that's a really good point. Hadn't thought of that.

Very half full, but probably a fair bit of merit in that.
