I reckon Gibbs will get to wear the number 7. I checked the net and he wears number 3 for Glenelg but you would think that he would be happy with 7.

Mind you, number 4 and 9 should be available.

I'm not sure if Saddo has another year left on his contract though.

We do need a ruckman with our 17 or 19 pick but we also need a superquick midfielder.

I would say if drafted, he'd be a monty to wear the number 4.

Kernahan - SANFL - Glenelg - Ross Gibbs....

1. Walker
2. Russell
3. Murphy
4. Gibbs
5. Kennedy
6. Simpson

That is some serious top-shelf talent right there.

four b.o.g's this season, interestingly the standout player for glenelg has been brett backwell!

I'm happy to give him a go, i just don't think he is top shelf....
I think he will be a blue collar worker in the mould of Simon wiggins, but with better skills in the end.

Agreed with the guernsey, i am very suprised they gave him number 2....

Come on Carlton..... don't try and be cute.... dont' listen to Pagan (if true)... you just HAVE to pick Gibbs...

I bet they pick Hansen though. I can sense it. Its just hte kind of stupid, narrow-sighted decision this club has become famous for.

Tyrant,

I'd be surprised if they didn't go Gibbs.
Even allowing for how bad the club is managed

Whoah Tyrant. While the club hasn't exactly covered itself in glory in the whole long-term vision stakes, I think your Gibbs Obsession is clouding your judgement a bit here.

Hansen is, by all accounts, the most talented KPP to come into the system since Riewoldt and Kossie. He's tall, athletic, can play both ends, and take a great contested mark.

Picking him over Bryce Gibbs is hardly a stupid, narrow-minded decision. Either player will greatly enhance our playing list.

Just because it's your opinion that a gun mid is now worth more to a club than a gun KPP, I'd hardly be crucifying the club if they decided to choose a Hansen over a Gibbs. That's just unfair.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that Hawthorn would be happy they got Franklin and Roughead over Deledio and Tambling right about now. And I'm equally sure that last season's premiers wouldn't swap their best KPP for their best mid, either.

Whichever way we go (provided we don't beat Sydney today) at least it'll make for a dramatic draft day.

There where thoughts we would take someone else last year in the draft other than Murphy
But Hughes took Murphy

And Hughes will take who is best which is Gibbs ....

In fact hughes got it pretty right we wanted murph and Kennedy and nabbed both so lets see how Hughes looks to this draft.

I don't see a negative in picking either Gibbs or Hansen.
I've been sucked in by all the hype on Gibbs, but, from all reports, whoever picks up Hansen will be doing extremely well.
WH has the responsibility ..... and he'll do the right thing. He will have alot more knowlege and information on the "draftees" than the majority of people on this site.

But ..... it is fun predicting.

I pick Gibbs ..... coz I want us to have the best midfield in history. :-D

Lets hope that we don't have to make the choice between Gibbs and Hansen.

What a great opportunity today to show the football world how we are improving with an upset win over Sydney.

Lets really get behind the boys today and hand Essendon* the wooden spoon. They might get the #1 pick in the draft but for decades on everytime Essendon* beat us in the future I can just smile at their supporters and say "remember 3rd of September 2006??".

Wins are what's important. Lets hope we can give Teaguey a true Carlton send off.

And as far as the priority pick goes, we already have enough good youngsters and low picks don't always work anyway - Jordan Russell isn't that good and we all know about Vance, Wiggins and Sporn. We just have to be smart and recruit a James Hird or Dean Kemp who were both late draft picks.

Go Blues :-D

Remember this, circa 1995:

Madden, Williams, Bradley, Brown, Ratten, Kouta, Camporeale.

One of the best-ever tap ruckmen (Madden), palming it down to the most skilled accumulator and user of the ball in the history of the game - not to mention a mean streak a mile wide (Williams)... supported by one of the toughest bastards ever to grace the centre square; and skilled - he kicked 7 goals in a game once (Brown)... backed up by another tough, skilled in and under maestro who won a B&F in a premiership year (Ratts)... surrounded by one of the best carriers and users of the ball in VFL/AFL history (Bradley)... and on one wing, the prototype for the ultimate 21st Century footballer (Kouta) and on the other wing a young, cheeky and silky-skilled finisher (Campo).

Now THAT'S what I call the best midfield in history.

I think he was given #2 because he was the clubs first, first round selection since "black friday" it was a great good news story for the club and created some positive press for the club and supports leading into the new year, i think it was a great choice, jesus Russell is in his 2nd year, hes 19, the kid has hardly had a shitload of faith show in him. I wish Pagan played him like Raines full games or almost full games off the half back flank, tell him to run and back himself. I know from my experiences with sport its amazing how much better you play when the coach shows some faith in you and gives you a real chance.

I get the feeling Russel is becoming the new AW of last year and look what happened to him he is now blossoming. Get off his back he will be a good player for the Blues
