He's been on our list for twice as long as he should have. So we just need to make sure that he's gone.

He deserves it.

Fixed.

I made the same mistake as you: Wood can be rookied for a third year without any issues.

Sheehan is a category A rookie, Byrne is a category B, but Byrne should be injected into the senior team while Korcheck, Wood, Sheehan, Walsh and Gowers battle it out for the two nominated rookie spots. He's ready, just a question of fitness, which he'll have with a complete pre-season.

Generally speaking there are no restrictions on rookies now except elevation rules and that they can spend a maximum of three years on the rookie list in one stint. Max of 6 category A, max of 2 category B.

If he agreed to a monstrous pay cut - I'd keep Robbie. Bit of a no-brainer really.

I agree, we're going to need at least two more years of cannon fodder performance out of Jones, Wood and Warnock.

Flog the crap out of them whilst we're developing and bringing on younger talls and rucks.

I'd prefer to bring Grimley in and treat Wood and Korcheck as the senior backups. Draft at least one kid to develop sometime in the next 18 months.

Guess which young ruckman will be screened at the WA combine on Saturday?

One of the smartest at the club. Higher IQ than Judd...but having said that - I don't think that's difficult.

Having said that - means nothing when talking football IQ which has been missing from 80% of the list for the last decade.

Makes sense, and if no restrictions re: Sheahan/Byrne, I'd probably take Byrne too. Although I think I'd prefer Wood on the senior list and pick up Grimley as a rookie.

If Wood wins the ruck battle and gets a nominated rookie spot it's the same thing really, and Grimley is effectively an upgrade on Jones, with the added bonus of being a ruck rotation.

I'd imagine it'd be difficult to convince Grimley to spend yet more years on the rookie list after not getting a look in at Hawthorn despite some pretty good VFL form.

Long time reader, first time poster....so please be nice.

My take from our current list. Looking carefully at what each player has shown he can offer, age of player, and unique qualities offered, I see these 15 players wearing medallions as part of the next Carlton premiership (no particular order)

(1) Cripps (2) Docherty (3) Menzel (4) Murphy (5) Thomas (6) Gibbs (7) Kruezer (8) Curnow (9) Boekhorst (10) Jaksch (11) Buckley (12) Everitt (13) Bell (14) Yarran (15) Weitering
(I'm on the fence with Casbault at the minute)

Should we trade any of these, then we should expect/demand a Dangerfield/ (rumoured) Trelour type offer. Yes, Yarran's been a sook of late, but he's an angel off field compared with others around the traps. Fix the culture and he'll absolutely shine. On this basis, and my list above, pick 12 from the Tiges is too cheap. I'm loving the huge overs most teams are currently paying across the board and am glad we've sat out of this. As Warren Buffett says, look for a dollar, and pay 50 cents for it.

Finally, interested in peoples thoughts on blues pursuing M Lobbe. Suggestion he'll play seconds, but still only 26, great tap ruckman, get to the pack, and is surprisingly elite with tackling stats (about 6 a game, unheard of for a ruckman). Given PA's stocks, could be a 50c trade.

Welcome; good first post.

Port have been denying all overtures for Lobbe, at least publicly, meanwhile they have delisted Redden, their third ruck. Lobbe's not going to be undervalued at all by them, and will likely feature in combination with Ryder given their aging forward line and the new rotation cap.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but Yarran and Bell are gone, though I'm confident we'll get good value out of their departure. :(

Don't have a big issue with Yarran/Bell leaving, but they're both contracted, not in the restricted agency window, and premiership material (my view).

Compared with pot luck pick 12 or the like, I'd like to see us pull back until someone foolishly offer big overs (like has been happening elsewhere).

I don't think there's really been much in the way of over so far. There's been some high picks shuffled around, but picks coming back the other way.

I agree that pick 12 is not odds on to necessarily net us much better than pick 17 (anothered rumoured Yarran pick via on-trade) or 20, but there is value to be found elsewhere. Check out the recruitment forum for some of the scenarios.

Murphy struggled under Malthouse. Sometimes struggles with injury and taggers, but I liked how he finished the season and I'd expect a game plan that will play to his strengths and a bit more support from his teammates when he's being tagged going forward.

Surprised people would trade him before Gibbs.

I cannot see the club trading him but the reality is he has value and won't be part of our next finals side in 4 years so I would be looking to trade him for a top 12 pick if possible.

Our goal should be to do whatever we can with players over 23 to get as many top 20 picks as possible.

I agree that he finished the season well. I reckon Judd's retirement and the departure of MM seemed to be some kind of trigger for him to finally take responsibility for his leadership of the team.

If we do happen to make finals in four years he will still only be 30 so don't see why he wouldnt be there. That said I am open to trading him if a very good deal came along.
