If we're replacing the coaching staff then we have to gut the playing list too. They can't keep getting away with this.

That just sends us backwards at least 5 years IMO!

I feel that the club wanted to avoid the media spotlight for sacking 'another coach'.

The long term damage will be hard to reverse. Not sure why we are letting him coach the season out.

Simpson has already met with senior officials. If he's not picked we are still going through a process of sorts.

So, just to confirm. That is the same Simpson who volunteered this morning that he hasn't spoken to any AFL clubs? Not answering a if he'd spoken to any. Volunteered the information. The same bloke who inferred he'd like another year in the media and currently doesn't have the desire to coach again?

The club hasn't spoken to Adam Simpson OR John Longmire..

If the players need to change, we need to change players.

I wonder if this is why JSOS is considering leaving, he's sick of the lack of hurt and care from the other players. Haynes said as much for himself previously.

The lack of hurt or care comes back to the senior players and to my mind that is Cripps, Weitering, Curnow and McKay. They are the ones that are setting the tone.

What I don't understand is this need by our supporters to make big changes all the time.
It has NOT worked for 20+ years, yet we are still wanting to throw the baby out with the bath water all the time.
As a club that has finally started to mature and brace the modern era of football, blowing the place up is the complete opposite of what needs to be done.
It is the time for adjustments, tweaking etc.
We have come a long way and I'd hate if we took the nuclear approach again just to make some supporters feel good.

It would not be a reach to have a sensible measured approach like this:
1. Keep Voss
2. Add to/change some of his assistants, including adding an ex-head coach
3. Lose a few top end key players
4. Recruit/draft players with speed, skills and IQ only with the following tactics:
- Add some mature end of career premiership players for better on-field leadership
- Add some more mid tier and middle aged players that are just missing out at top 8 clubs for depth
- Add some kids from the draft
5. Then set a better strength and conditioning program for better durability of players and only play them with loads they can handle. i.e. Jack Martin 60% load etc.

We have to remove the need for certain players to be on the ground playing their best for us to win, that is why we are in this mess.

Also, refreshing and changing coaches has a limited timeline before it becomes the norm and the norm could be worse yet again.

Yes, this is my preferred approach.

Regarding my previous post on this thread, if Wright decides Voss needs to go, then I still want 2-5 to happen (Luke Power the only assistant I can think of who should survive point 2). I shouldn't have said "gut the list", I should more precisely have said "move on several big names/so-called leaders". I have previously said, more bluntly, "excise the cancers". Because it's pretty clear that some players have been at the heart of our down-tools mentality that has done for several past coaches, and they mustn't be allowed to claim the next one.

Edit: to elaborate that last point, I am not necessarily claiming that players are conspiring to undermine the coach; it could just be that they are too easily discouraged or have a negative energy that infects their team mates. Whatever it is, it causes dramatic collapses in team performance and cannot be tolerated.

Well said.

One of the good things about detaching myself from the game over recent weeks is you can think a bit more with your head than your heart.

I still support trading a big name in addition to TDK, but not blowing up the list big time. For me it's Harry & I think we'd have a few takers.

Reluctantly prefer to see Voss see out his contract. Still really interested to see how he'd go without the usual Carlton amount of injuries, problem is we just never get that luxury.

This wasn't directed at anyone in general, it was more the general sentiment of let's just blame the top person and we are fixed approach.
Your point is valid though, we need to get rid of players that are prone to packing it in when we lose.
Mental toughness is as much a necessity as physical and is probably why the more mature list teams perform better as a whole.
Hence my reason for adding premiership players from other teams that are at the end of their careers.
Either way, our list needs some fine tuning.

Agree with this. This is my preferred approach, acknowledging that it is difficult to tease out which levers to pull given there are glaring gaps which could all be separate issues, or all related to one source problem or somewhere in between.
I think the coaching role these days is 90% about man management and that is probably what Graeme Wright will be looking at.

Having said that, I get the impression (admittedly from the media so could be a load of rubbish) that a significant group of players is unhappy with the coach which doesn’t usually bode well for said coach.
I would think Kenny would be a great addition to the assistant coaching panel esp given he seems to have a trusting relationship with Voss.

If we do end up replacing Voss, I think Simpson would be good for us - I have always been impressed with his coaching esp how he had West Coast move the ball forward to make the most of Darling and Kennedy, and also how he was able to engineer a grand final victory in 2018 without 2 of their most important players (Gaff & NicNat).

imagine being a former head coach working under Voss.
How much longer do we need to see he is clueless?
No plan B, poor plan A actually.
Lost the playing group.

I couldn't disagree more with this comment.
Even Simpson made comment on our change of game plan and how it wasn't working, mainly due to players IMO.
I guess people see what they want to see and that is it.
