Sure has Frank. Credit for one of your favourites....

Quote:
As Carlton’s fifth round selection (No.73 overall) in the 1999 National AFL draft, Houlihan was a bargain basement pick-up.

“We really liked him,” the club’s then recruiting manager Shane O’Sullivan said this week, “but on the way through [to the draft] he hit a bit of a poor patch and other clubs dropped off him.

“Some people probably saw him as not hard enough, but one of our scouts Paul ‘Stuka’ Brodie was a massive fan, and while he didn’t have to twist my arm, he was really pushing for Ryan.

Henderson is gone.

Rowe still our CHB....we need better....and it aint Carlisle....but Weiering will do the job in the finals
Jammo still our FB....we need better....at least a replacement by 2017
Weitering to play a bit as 3rd tall....and his spot may be taken by Jaksch (expensive 3rd tall at Pick 7)

We have a first rounder for Hendo this year or take it to the draft next year.

What can we get for good value this year for next years first rounder?

@GWS Tomlison and Plowman???? I'd like that to make up for the Jaksch Wiley pick 7 trade.

If these guys were any good GWS wouldn't be letting them go. They have been at a club with nothing but young kids and haven't showed much. Pass and go to the draft,

Rice goes to Saints... A bit sad when the son of a Premiership player picks the bayside bogans over us. Never thought I'd see the day but it is disturbing that just about anyone with upside looks at us as a basket-case. Even with virtually a completely new coaching panel and a clear direction no-one wants to be at the club I love. Note exactly a vote of confidence in Bolton and co.

Or they realise the work ethic needed to get this club up and running ...

I mean if you had the choice to slot into a well functioning club or build from the ground up, what would you choose?

We are in some serious trouble, but that can be a good thing. If we make one of our goals to recruit young players, who full well know the effort required to drag our sorry arses off the bottom of the ladder, we "should" at the very least gain individuals with hard as nuts work ethic and I'd take that over anyone just wanting to slot into a ready-made team.

if all these GWS players we are chasing are good (P3,p9,p10),than why arent any other clubs shown some kind of interest in any.

Fine to say get the kids from the draft but after pick 1 for Weitering who are we going to ask to fill the KP spots Waite and Henderson have left? If Casboult is traded then all we have left for KP roles is Jamison Rowe Jaksch and Jones. Three of those will not be playing in Carlton's next finals campaign, let alone premiership team.

Have a look at what the draft has given us in the past with KPs Hartlett McCarthy Bower Mitchell Austin McInnes Edwards Donaldson....that's what we are likely to get with picks 20 40 60 80 and 100. Good luck. I believe we need to get our spine sorted with perhaps one KP spot for an FA otherwise we will see a repeat of the last 15 years with a lack of quality KPs.

It is good enough for Geelong and North to target KPs from the bottom club but not for a bottom club to target GWS who have an oversupply of Top 10 KP kids they got from the draft?

I think the answer to that is straight forward:

They are contracted.
SOS has a relationship with them and he's with Carlton.
SOS knows the GWS strategy given they have to reduce their list and know they are going to lose quality players.
SOS knows how good they are and their upside and he's with Carlton.
GWS have an abundance of them.
GWS have a good relationship with SOS and he's from Carlton.

We need 4 quality KP's for our spine and 2 x 3rd talls.
3 have to know how to play as forwards and 3 have to know how to play back.
We will have Jaksch and Weitering to fill 6 of those spots.

We don't seem to be a preferred destination when players like Carlisle and Rice pick the Saints before us.
There is not an abundance of quality KPs in the draft.
So we have to go out get quality players not the Jones and Tutt types but Tomlison and Plowman types.
