I am sure I recall Betts' saying something about Adelaide approaching him at the end of 2012.

don't think the club has the money to pay him out... don't think they can afford to get rid of him..

lets see what happens..

Micks salary is already in the budget. Nothing additional there (nor with any other loyal assistant who walks with him). The only additional cost would be any additional salary to Laidley to step up from assistant to senior coach.

He might be 100% accurate in everything he said this morning, but he has to be out of the club today for trashing the board and Trigg.

in the budget doesn't mean its in the bank. budget for money coming in and money going out and with the gate receipts being crap I would say more money going out than coming in...

I'm not sure you understand the concept of "can't afford".

If it's in the budget, one way or the other they are paying that amount. Or are you suggesting that the club could go to the coaches later in the year and ask them to take a pay cut because gate receipts are down? Interesting concept.

There's a fixed amount Carlton will be paying its coaches this year. Sacking Mick now or letting him coach out doesn't change that amount, except if they had to pay an assistant slightly more to step up.

Can Carlton "afford" to pay Mick out, no. Paying out 500K mid way thru the year would have not been in the budget, paying 500K over 6 months would have been. The amount paid was never going to change. The club is in massive debt, membership down, gate receipts down, they might have 500K lying around that was allocated to something else in the budget but to terminate Mick's contract now, they wouldn't have budgeted on it. Its just going to hurt other parts of the business.

Maybe they might just keep Mick on the books for the next 6 months, problem solved.

I think the fact Betts was a restricted free agent and therefore Carlton had the option to match any offer and keep him makes it all redundant. Except the fact that Mick clumsily tried to throw Trigg under the bus probably sealed the deal on him losing his job today.

Why do you think it was clumsy?

You don't know who he meant.
It's the only way forward.
if you don't like it, get busy organising the Jimmae Ticket.
As Synners said, let's wait and see who fronts up with a ticket, and who else would be on the ticket if it is indeed TE.

That's because a TE ticket would be laughed off by the vast majority right now. More of the scene to be set first before Tom can ride in on a white horse and declare himself a humble knight in service of the kingdom.

Because Betts was a restricted FA and if Carlton ultimately had the option to keep him, it's hard for another club to tamper in the way Mick was suggesting happened.

And if you think Mick is being clever there, instead of clumsy, why even mention Trigg by name? He could have simply said Betts was gone 18 months prior and let others join the dots.

Mick might have more nous than this useless board, but that doesn't mean he's a genius.

He also said Betts played "careful" football in his final year suggesting he didn't have a dip because he was leaving.
IIRC, Eddie busted his jaw in a contest early in the season. An interesting outcome for someone being careful.

FWIW, I thought Eddie gave everything whenever he pulled on the jumper and for Malthouse to sully Eddies reputation to deflect heat from himself reinforces the shit bloke he is.

Just @#$%&! him off.

I'm starting to get a sense they might be about to sack him.

Just a feeling.

Sometimes I sense things before they happen.

Anyone else picking up on this...?

he may not want to be Prez.
he may be part of a really great alt ticket.
who knows?
a bit quick to judge?

let's draw breath,
wait, and see.
we need to really see.

then act.

this could be the turning point into something great.
people have patience when they have hope.
maybe there will be more than 1 ticket.
we simply don't know yet.

or yeti even.
