Wow thats very sad,you would think with a new coach, we would at least be up on last year ,maybe we arent a power house any more, and Hawthorn has taken over the mantle from us and joined pies, dons, tigers as the big4

We drew more to our game against Adelaide than the Hawks did for theirs against North. Membership numbers can be deceiving.

All the same I would think that Fahour and Sayers should be asking some very pointed questions of Swan and the Membership Department at the next Board Meeting.

There are probably a few reasons for the sluggish increase in our membership. You would have noticed that although we have quite a few superstars in the team, they are not that appealing to the young kids.

YOu need a player like Kouta or Fev, who attract the new supporters - that's where the growth is.

Nothing matches the drawing power of a Buddy.

ALso, we haven't had much success in over a decade with only one finals win - and that was against a rabble.

The Blues need to think out of the square - provide very cheap memberships to kids for example (not just a back pack with a few goodies in it).

On the other hand, I think historically the Blues had modest numbers of supporters who actually signed up each year.

Think of the 1995 and 1996 seasons - I don't think we have over 20,000 members at that time. And our team had everything. Champions on each line, characters, veterans, bald headed players, kouta, young stars, legends - you name it

One needs to look at how much money the club generates from its supporters - ie not just memberships, but sponsorships etc, and commercial arrangements. I am not sure how we compare with other clubs on that level

Yarran, Eddie and Jeffie are a marketers dream for young kids I would've thought?

There is no doubting we lost a few thousand members when we sacked Fevola - however nothing has really been done by the club to re-engage these members since.

Maybe we lost members when fev got the bullet but that is years ago and we have been in finals since he left except for last year .
I think our membership department needs a good kick up the backside .
Does anybody know how many members from last year didnt renew this year

It might be worth getting Fev involved in the membership campaign somehow.

He's still the biggest Carlton name of the last 10 years and, although I used to cringe when Carlton would come out saying "we signed Fev because of all those kids out there with the number 25 on their jumpers" , i think its probably time to bring him back into the fold somehow for just that reason.

Bridges will be built eventually, may as well get some value out of it. I'm not suggesting he plays, just get involved in the membership campaign.

With a clever campaign, perhaps, it could work. Comedy = tragedy + time, so maybe in a year or two if the club shows some vision then they might be able to think about a campaign that could take the mickey out of Fev to encourage people to join.

But, really, for all the good he did he's still a player we sakced because he was a [REDACTED], so what sort message does it send to then use him as a marketing gimmick?

A letter turned up from the club last week. I thought it was going to be a birthday card for on of the kids but it was in fact addressed to myself with the title "Miss" and asking me to sign up as a member. My 2013 membership card had been in my wallet for a couple of weeks already.
