Playing in a final against the best team in the comp, he could have kicked 10.
Collingwoods slow movement forward stifled his play. When they got the ball in quick he was unstoppable.
The man is a beast.
The problem for the Pies is that he kicked 6, Krakouer kicked 4 but the rest of the team were impotent. If he didnt mark it, the ball would fly out of their forward line before they could get numbers there.
The pressure of Eddie, Garlett and Armfield would keep the ball locked in.

I'm excited

I was hoping for some inside info from Synbad
But I guess you're right, things will be remain "close" until the Pies fail.

Send him a PM...he's a nice guy, he'll send you one back telling you the same thing, but the Carlton deal is 6 years not 5. Damian Barrett will get a hold of this on Monday after reading this post and we'll all sit back with some Malt 'O Milks and tea and have a laugh (although Synners may have a long black).

Once we get Malthouse, and if Cloke and Goddard are in the mix, with the possibility of Dale Thomas wanting to reunite with Malthouse, we will be a beast of a side next year.

Can't get my head around 6 years. Probably at very good coin too.

I can certainly see what value he would add to our side. Just feel we will end up paying way overs for him.

Clearly you know little about foot ball

Number one is presence.
We got none going forward....

Number two you under estimate Setanta.

Hi Synners,
sorry to go of topic, but just quickly,
I notice there's a new series about you starting on the ABC, at 8.20 tonite.
I'll post a link in New TV shows.

Wherever he plays next year, the team who has him will be paying overs. Five years at 22 games a year is 110 games. He currently has 172 games with at least one more to come, so that's 173 + 110 = 283. To add a sixth season would push him up to 300 which only around 60 players in the history of the game have achieved, one of whom is his dad.

He has the whip in hand and can command pretty much anything he likes.

I still think we do it, but he wont get a million a year, but may get 6 years. 800-900k for 6 years, done.

People slagging him off for his 'crap' season, he has still only kicked 10 less goals than the Coleman Medal winner!

As we compiled all the first round picks, my hope was for prolonged, sustained success at the top. This dream has faded quickly to the point where i think we just roll the dice and go for it-Mick, Cloke, Goddard etc get em` all, payouts for all the sacked coaches, the best high altitude training etc. Why the hey not? Boom or bust. I`m not going to worry anymore.

We need a flag. A flag will hopefully bring us sustained success. If we have to pay overs for players so be it. We are still controlled by the salary cap unfortunately. If players have to have salary adjustments we will soon find out which ones are serious about ultimate team success.

It's worth remembering that $900K now is not $900K in 6 years time.

This year's TPP was $8,787,375 which was 7% higher than the previous year.

For simplicity let's assume we pay Cloke 10% of our salary cap in his first year.

Assuming an annual increase of 7% the figures would be as follows:

2013 Cap: $9,402,491.25 Cloke gets $940,249.12 (10.00%)
2014 Cap: $10,060,665.64 Cloke gets $940,249.12 (9.35%)
2015 Cap: $10,764,912.23 Cloke gets $940,249.12 (8.73%)
2016 Cap: $11,518,456.08 Cloke gets $940,249.12 (8.16%)
2017 Cap: $12,324,748.01 Cloke gets $940,249.12 (7.63%)
2018 Cap: $13,187,480.37 Cloke gets $940,249.12 (7.13%)

So in his final year he's on 7.13% of our cap which in this year's terms would be $626539.84.

Sign him up for 25 years and he'll be paying us to play in his 50s...

Oh - and that averages out to 8.39% per year over the 6 years which in this years dollar would mean he'd be paid an average of a bit over $737,000 a year for the duration.

And we may actually get him for less.

A Cloke getting paid $737,000 a year to do anything.

The world is a really odd place.

Have to factor in a diminishing rate of return over the life of the asset though. Paying $900,000 for an asset only producing half of what it did six years prior isn't value for money. You'd be hoping and praying there are no injuries and his ability doesn't diminish with age. A lot of luck involved there.
