Playing 3 Ruckmen at once is so Dump in the modern era, and its only going to make Ratten look more Dump tomorrow.
How many times have we said it on TC? Kruzer and Hampson are not Forwards. They are not full Forwards. They are both Ruckmen and Pinch forwards at best. To play both of them inside 50 tomorrow is a suicide mission because both have no second efforts and can not give a contest unless they get a clear run at the ball and mark it.
Who is going to stop their opponents tomorrow from running Freely out of their Defensive area?
NO chance unless one of them gets dropped to be the Sub
Ok take one of them out and replace him with....... err.... nobody because all our prospective tall forwards are injured, recovering from injury, trying to get some form in the twos or have just been dropped because they can't hack it as a forward.
THIS is the problem with having 15 players out of 38 on the injury list as we did last week. They weren't all in the best 22 but they are all in the best 38 and atm we had a list of 23 players plus a couple of elevated rookies to pick 22 from. The three 'ins' for this week reflect the dire situation we are in in the injury room. I concede that those picked have to have a fair crack at it but the reality is we have been fielding a team that should never have taken to the park all other things being equal. And it leads to more injuries as players play above their weight.
We should get thrashed tomorrow but that doesn't matter if they have a go and don't just lie down when the score starts to blow out. If they do we will be 11th on the ladder and those of you wishing for a collapse to the basement will have got what you want. It still won't result in changes at the board or coach's level but at least we will be struggling and you can all pat yourselves on the back and point out how clever you were.
The time for change is at the end of the season if at all. Not now. That would only leave us with a caretaker coach, no time to change the gameplan, the players confused. It would also leave us with a change to the board which can do what? Huff and puff and say they will make big changes overnight? Everybody knows that can't happen.
The best we can hope for in 2012 is an effort by the boys on the park, that the injured players come back for whatever is left of the season and that 2013 will be better injury-wise and we have a better mindset than currently exists. However that is achieved is of no consequence to me. I'm just a lifetime supporter who has seen us at the bottom of the ladder in two separate cycles over 60 years and don't like it when the window slams prematurely.
Tomorrow we go in with three rucks. Maybe we wouldn't if there were an option but there isn't. If we take the backs and put them forward just to drop a ruckman, we will not have the timber down back to combat their marking forwards. Even as it is, we may not.
Do your best, boys. I'll be here as usual watching in the dead of the night and hoping you acquit yourselves well.
