Must just not supply the details to the AFL, we sell plenty of non-match day memberships.

We didn't last year and did not have one n-a member attributed to us after official audits, whereas Richmond and Essendon* were embarrassed when 7000 came off the top.
The question is: Are we counting them or not?

From memory didn't we have something similar happen to our membership tally a few years ago?
Maybe we're still stinging from embarrassment.

What does that matter Sydney?
You don't think that being the big club that we are, we shouldn't be doing all we can to reel in every potential member?

Collingwood aren't happy with their lot and are announcing that they'll be up to 150K members in 5 years time.
I can't see it unless tricky memberships are involved, but nevertheless they've set their aim.

Hawthorn have 7K Tassie members, so peel them off the top and they're still way in front of us.

I think (read, I know) we can do better and hence should leave no stone unturned.
To date, we have not done this.

Spot on. Hawthorns membership resurgence hasn't been built on the success of the last 40 years. For 30 of those years (When they actually had sustained success), their membership was poor. Its innovation and effort that has driven their membership.

Collingwood have built their membership on innovation and working hard to appease their supporters. Trying to downplay that and simply pin it on grand final appearances is foolish and ignorant.
They are the best because they connect with their supporters the best. Unlike some of our supporters, they realise on-field success isn't the answer.

If Collingwood and Hawthorn go through 8-10 years of being cellar dwellers their numbers will drop off at a rapid rate - Being sucessful brings membership - it's easy attracting people to your club when you are a chance of winning something - Hell even the Kangas numbers go up when they are winning and nobody follows them

I just don't see our drive as aggressive as some others.
It's all a little passive and formulaic, for mine.
The CFC have recognized this in recent times, so it's just a matter of what we put into effect.

My opinions are formed largely through speaking with the footballing public and through forums, so I may well be wrong as the sample may be small, but somehow the same grievances have come back year after year from the Carlton faithful.
I don't rubbish the club for nothing but this is not a subjective matter as the numbers are there for all to see.
We called 50 and we should have got it. We won't.

We poached Clinton Bown from Hawthorn to fix this...

Hawthorn Football Club statement
Quote:
Hawthorn Football Club has regretfully accepted the resignation of Clinton Bown, General Manager Communications and Advanced Media.

Bown has overseen the implementation and delivery of the Hawks New Media strategy and established the first club-based TV production facility in Australian sport.

Bown leaves the Hawks after four years to take on the newly created role of General Manager Consumer Business and Digital Marketing with Carlton Football Club.

If Bown was worth hiring, then the club should be making inroads in membership like Hawthorn.

No doubt there are areas where the club needs to improve, but we shouldn't spare our scorn for supporters who aren't signing up. The club is four and one with a list that beat Collingwood by ten goals three weeks ago. Pretty pathetic if they're not interested in signing up or holding out to see where we'll finish. The "blame" is 50-50 or 60-40. Unless our supporter base isn't as wealthy and/or as large as everyone thinks. Some would still hate Etihad.

I don't know where the club get their figures from???

Quote:
The Carlton Football Club has today broken through its all-time membership record, registering 44,296 members so far.
On track to reach 50,000 members by the end of the home and away season, this is the second year in a row the Club has reached new ground with its membership numbers, having surpassed last year’s final figure of 44,136.

It has been on the record for some time that our final tally for 2011, which was audited by the AFL, was actually 43,791. See below:

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default ... sid=118901

Anyway based on the AFL figures, here is this weeks chart, so we can track our 2012 progress and make comparisons to last year.

This is interesting:

Quote:
“We have seen sales remain consistently strong since membership opened and as well as growing our membership this year our season reserved seat sales have increased by 26% on 2011," Swann added.

Quote:
Carlton is asking current members to ‘name a supporter’- who they think should step up and become a member - for doing so each member will receive an exclusive gift from the Club as well as be in the draw for a money can’t buy match day experience.

With eight home games still remaining - membership still offers great value with a range of membership available.

“We still have a number of home games to play this season, so there is still great value in Carlton membership and there is no better way to support the Club and feel a part of the team than to be a Member,” Swann said.

Haha, I did see those. I just misread your post and was thinking there was an easily accessible AFL source that had YTD membership figures for all teams in 2012.

I am Carlton! Better late than never I suppose?

Do I get a prize if I was the one to get us above the record mark?

Hi guys just some food for thought, I Havent posted for a while, but the events I witnessed at yesterdays AFL match in canberra compelled me to do so....
I am a paid up 2012 carlton member, and was wondering the other day why our membership numbers have not increased as quick as I would have thought, and have to date stagnated somewhat, and low and behold, it hit me like a tonne of bricks at yesterdays GWS vs Gold Coast Game in canberra , Yes folks I never thought I would see the day when so many so called carlton supporters I bumped into yesterday, that were proudly wearing their foundation member's Giants hats and guernseys, whilst also wearing other clothing representing a carlton emblem on it,
I was truely taken back and amazed at this and when I quizzed a few of them If they had paid up their carlton membership for 2012 ?, most I spoke to said no. I could not believe my ears, Hey I even got to a verbal stouch with a so carlton supporter when I mentioned that this game was a battle of the wooden spoon. Prior to even knowing that he was in fact a carlton supporter he had asked me how many wooden spoons have carlton won recently!! Really I said to him on his confession of being a blues supporter. I wouldnt have picked that a fellow blues supporter would be bellowing out that stat with such bravado. I proceeded to advise him that he and other so called Blues supporters, that there is only would team you should support! and not give your dollars to the Giants to create a dynasty!! for christ sake! you either follow the mighty Blues or you dont.. Yes folks , I have now come realise that there a now now very much fair weathered carlton supporters and turncoats out there. Hope they enjoyed that crappy Giants club song after the game..
