How good is our backline looking so far this year?

The whole backline dynamic has changed, all of a sudden we have a fast, flexible, attacking, yet tight backline.

We've played two teams that have good forward lines and not only have the likes of Walker, Ohailpin, TBird, Scotland, Houla and best of all Waitey, held them to lowish scores but the run and attack out of our backline is starting to be a real feature of our game.

Another piece of the puzzle falls into place.

Personally, I would rather any of the others....

Quartermain is not a good commentator. Last week When fisher kicked for goal, well I assumed he did and wasn't passing to Fev, Quartermain said in a solemn voice, "Ahh a missed opportunity from fisher there.....(then changed his attitude mid sentence, in a forced and overexcited manner)....FEVOLAA!!" You'd think because he had vision of the whole ground that he would have seen that coming...It's below standard and I can't stand it.

Voss said 'anythink' on national TV......not once either.....multiple times. I'll be eager to watch his next effort though, hopefully he has weeded it out of his vocabulary by then :-D

Voss needs to hire a voice coach if he wants Joe Public to take him 100% seriously.

Did anyone else notice just how star-struck he was standing beside Braddles? He wasn't as glowing for guys like Stevens, Fevola and Murphy though, so it shows he almost had his love for Carlton beaten out of him.

I did but I didn't think it was the company causing it...I just thought he was getting used to the procedure of interviewing, he may have been a bit taken by it all...

Well, i had another Wedding to film last night that ended up finishing at 1:00am.

Now LAST YEAR, i would have come home and been able to see a replay on Fox Footy. But this year, after the biggest TV Rights deal in the history of Australia netting the AFL close to $800million, i have the following choices when it comes trying to find a replay of my beloved Blues.

a) Nuthing.
b) Zip.
c) Sweet &^%# ALL!

This is nothing short of Piss-weak and quite frankly i'm offended. AFL supporters (or should i say, Supporters of FOOTY!) are getting done from behind. No Lube, No foreplay...............No flowers or Chocolate............NUTHIN! Just bend over and take it!

Because i use a MAC, this stupid & Pathetic AFL Beta site wont let me watch replays of the game (which i might add are only available to Telstra BigPond members anyway).

Because of the demise of FoxFooty I can't watch a replay of it.

This is 2007 for christ sake!

The only thing i can do is wait for someone out there in Internet Land to post a torrent on the game allowing me to ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING it.

To the AFL..........................GO %$*@ YOURSELFS! Your boardering on a Dictatorship and are a disgracee to the game and it's supporters.

To the BLUES.....................Sorry i missed you boys! Well Done to all of you.

Half-time live interview. ;)

@ Ryan - Other posters have called Foxtel and reported back that this is something happening only during the pre-season and all will be restored upon arrival of the season proper. :)

Furthermore, Bigpond used Foxtel's replays to make a webcast of the game, so that's out the window until then too.

Yeah that's cool Jimmae, and thanks for your post,..........................But again i say this................IT'S 2007 FOR CHRIST SAKE & I CAN'T EVEN GET A REPLAY OF THE GAME!

Biggest sport in Australia, you'd think they'd WANT me to see the game. But no, instead the AFL are like "We WANT you to see the game but you have to do it according to OUR rules!"

Nope.............%@#* YOU AFL!

I'll give you an example:-

I am a massive Baseball fan (Go BRAVES) which is probably one of few sports in the world that Australia doesn't give a toss about. But regardless of that, and the fact that i am 20,000miles away from the country in which it's played, I can jump onto the MLB website and watch a game, even hours or days afters it's been played and it costs me VERY little per year to do so.

I don't even have to be signed up with a particular Internet provider either!

Now, if i can watch a replay of a frigen Baseball game easy enough why do i have so much trouble watching a god-damn AFL game?

Hmmmm, makes you think doesn't it?

I disagree with u there - joel smith hasnt played in the midfield for years - is a hbf - and is getting to the end of his career imo. Ladson hasnt consistently performed in the midfield at any stage of his career so far - bateman is still a bit inconsistent - and mitchell and hodge having been tearing it up over the last few years - but that hasnt resulted in wins for the hawks. And crawford's age is a concern, altho he was solid last night. It will be interesting to see how they go this year - i think carlton will finish on top of them - I think the hawks real weakness is their backline. Anyways, time will tell.

Nice of u to be a balanced supporter tho winny and give another team a compliment.

Well not according to Foxtel............JESUS!

Is it on again? I'm in a warehouse apartment and as a result i am unable to be connected to Foxtel so if i want to watch it i have to head over to my parents place (Which i GLADLY would have done at 1:00am last night if i was told correctly!)

All this trouble and all i wanna do is watch a game.

Apparently people in NSW and QLD had to wait till midnight just to watch in on TEN? That's just poor really!

was a good win , was good to take the hawks down a peg with their "finals are a certainty" attitude

ol "duddy" franklin did his usual nothing when it was asked .. cant forgive him for sinking my dreamteam with his poor efforts late last season

but back to the blues .. credit to stevens who (despite the best tagger) kept running and hit targets at the end when it mattered .. well done stevo, just wish you take the first option more often rather than the 40%'er

back line strength has been the key .. instead of our turnovers resulting in easy goals, the added pressure has meant its getting stopped more often .. and the way they are linking and running from deep in defence when we do win possession again, is most promising .. well done waitey, santa, tb and co .. yes even saddo played a part

liked the efforts of josh k .. after a quiet start he really did do some important work, when i see the ball going to him i just cant help but say "joshy will get it" .. and he does

murphy .. fantastic, scary part is that there is improvement to come
gibbs .. like the team side of his game, first look is for a team mate to give it to .. just needs more team-mates ready to take it off him !

JR's role was important, bateman has hurt us before

overall its has been great to know that the team is learning not just how to play well , but how to win .. its a big step

in some ways i wish we werent full strength but at least its good to win .. might as well win the cup now , no reason why we cant

.. go blues ..

My main positives for last night were:

- our backline looks much better with both Waite and O'Hailpin
- Josh Kennedy showed some good signs
- both Fisher and Carazzo kicked important goals from set shots. Hopefully this is something they can continue in the future.

He definitely started on Boyle, the 10 boys made mention of it more than a few times, especially at quarter time, with Wallsy making comment of the lack of respect shown toward Boyle.

I know he didn't finish on Boyle, as Saddington finished on him, but I'm not sure how much time he spent on Little however.

Forget Walls,I've known about the matchups since midweek, just be big enough to accept you have posted rubbish.

I was going to tell him DOA but he just got back from a self imposed sabbatical and I thought I would cut him some slack. Shouldn't be long now before he is has another rest. He can't help himself

Without looking to throw fuel on the fire - who was/was supposed to be on Boyle?

I like the comment about the backline. It's early days but there are enough signs to indicate things are moving forward nicely.

It was quite a good game, and we did reasonable well without Fevola firing on all cyliders.

Loved Kouta's last quarter.

Im incined to say we arent full strength until Bower is in the team

AND JEEPERS ! all the negativity about Walker get rid of it people - i remember several pin perfect 40 - 50 m passes out of defence last night and a couple of well placed kicks to position that the uselses commentrary team called "short" or "terrible" i remember one bouncing several metres in front of caraazzo allowing him to shake his man and run on - If walks had kicked it straight to carazzo he woulda been tied up by his man and if walker kicks it to a contest and the defender spoils it - thats not a terrible kick by walker - sheesh he is harshly criticised. - yes he had a few clangers - most players do in a game thats why its a stat - its not a rare thing its a common occurence across every player in the league

Walker is a gun and one of our better players - his positioning and work rate in the back line is second to none and those runs are sensational - i think a bit more confidence is needed by AW when he runs through the middle - that clanger last week against esendon was because he was too selfish he should have just went for goal but couldnt make up his mind.

Theres room for improvement but who doesnt have room for improvement and thats a scary thing with AW he is just going to get better !!! he is no where near as bad by foot as people make out.

HEY AND WE WON YOU SOURPUSSES !!!

oh yeah and Walker wasnt on Boyle - he was just the won sprinting to cover his team mates asses - the match committee underestimated Boyle and it seemed he was left loose whilst Scotland did his thing
