Well, maybe keeping him may show we've grown a spine considering Parkin was the last coach that left of his own accord....post contract concluding

Ideally you probably have Malthouse agreeing to a one or two year deal on reduced coin and duties, with the arrival of highly touted assistant, and general PR spin of "wanting to do the hand over properly", and you have him be Parkin in 1999/2000 to someone else's Brittain.

Problem is that its unlikely to see MM agree to it, and there's not that many gun assistants left on the market.

If we keep him because we think that's the best course I agree. My problem is that I think we tend to keep coaches (or players sometimes) for fear of being seen to be wrong and then discard them for fear of being seen to be wrong.

Problem is we have no-one to leverage off.

Mick will ask for same coin.

We'll umm and ahh.

Mick will go on On The Couch and talk about plans for life after footy

We'll sort of panic and attempt to meet him halfway.

We'll then change our mind and be linked to Cameron Ling because it'll sell papers talking up the bad blood between the two.

Rumors from "solid sources" within the club will come out saying Ling has signed, it's a done deal, and he's bringing Bomber Thompson/Insert Geelong identity here

Ling will deny all interest, happy in media.

Malthouse will then do an article with a journo talking up life after footy/retirement again, and promoting the cause of someone he knows won't take over as coach (i.e. Juddy could be a senior coach next year).

Then after we spend a ridiculous amount on festivities/after match function for MM's final game. We announce we've signed him to a one year extension.

After a solid few years dragging the blues off the bottom to consistent finals player and then a couple of season racking up flags as assistant / midfield coach at the Hawks, Ratts would be the best choice. He would have to agree to no lollies, no stats in pressers and not saying "early doors". I'd imagine he has kicked those habits by now though.

Worked well at Collingwood

Interesting times ahead...I think we need to start like a house on fire for the contract to 'just roll on with same conditions'

Was it the coaching arrangement that worked well or the circumstances in which it was brought in the issue?

But I thought Eddie McGuire planted him at our club as a cunning plot to make us self destruct ?
