Wouldn't it be funny if Judd got the job.

Long time assistant coach, experience at a different clubs, successful. Probably doesn't have enough of a profile to be considered by Carlton.

Premiership coaches Denis Pagan and Paul Roos back John Blakey to step up into senior coaching role

PREMIERSHIP coaches Denis Pagan and Paul Roos have nominated John Blakey as the ideal candidate for the next AFL coaching job.

As doubts persist over the future of Mick Malthouse at Carlton, Blakey’s name gained prominence in coaching circles.

I like the idea of a younger guy schooled with modern methods for game day and training. We need an upbeat guy for this as its going to be a hard sell to supporters and sponsors.

I dont want a Thompson/Worsfold/Knights/Harvey old school coach or anyone that is not in the AFL system.

Fingers crossed we get it right.

and until we do – have a united board, free from their own personal agendas – all we are doing is shuffling the deck chairs.

Need a good thorough process. With the right people on the committee.
Clarkson was appointed after Dunstall pushed his case against the tide favouring Ayers.
Ross Lyon was only a late entrant into the StK race, based on Rob Walls suggestion.

As I've stated previously, I'm not confident our Board will choose the right guy. It worries me to hear the media talking about Voss and Worsfold. Not that they are definitiviely the wrong choice, but it smacks of more messiah complex. (PS. How has Port Adelaide gone since Voss joined?)

My gut would like one of the new breed but not sure how we pick out the Beveridges from the Neelds?
Oh, and by the way:
- Clarkson was not a 'Beveridge' himself. Took a few years before his team blossomed - I remember he was being crucified in the media e.g. when he kept Dawson on Rocca
- How many times was Leon Cameron overlooked?
- How many times was Hinkley overlooked?
- Who would have picked Ross Lyon, Luke Beveridge or Phil Walsh???

It is a high wire act for the club. Pick a new guy and risk looking silly if he's not ready or any good.
Pick an experienced guy and risk looking a dill b/c 'Voss was never any good to start with....'.
Ultimately, I suspect there is not one golden coach. There are several who could do the job.
I will feel a lot more comfortable when I start to hear the club talk about a thorough process, a committee made up of wide range of experts (not just 1995 premiership players). Wouldn't mind a Dunstall, Walls, Parkin + recent players... (not Gary Lyon!)

HOWEVER, NONE WILL SUCCEED UNLESS WE CAN CHANGE THE CULTURE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!
(It is possible this has changed at admin level but too soon to tell. Even if so, think we urgently need change at Board and player level...)

A friend of mine saw Pagan at a cafe 4 or 5 years ago. He was introduced to him by the owner as a Carlton fan.
He came over and spoke with him for a few minutes.
The basic message was this was a club with serious problems. Divided board, animosity between football depratment and board, fighting within the football department., people white-anting each other. He said to my friend "Good luck but I dont think you'll see any success for 10 years unless something changes at the club"

If you see Mick in 5 years, he'll tell you the same thing. And we'll still be in the same position we are in now.
But these stubborn old fools that we hire as coaches, they are our problem

Kernahan should never have remained on the board post Black Friday.

Kernahan should never have been made president, temporary or otherwise.

To me and many others he has tarnished his playing legacy by being part of the ongoing deadweights at board level.

Forget a thorough review of our footy department, we need a thorough review of our board.

They're old enough to know how to handle that kind of confrontation buzz; neither did a great job of it.

Changing that's not going to solve anything, but we need someone who is going to be patient from week to week, day to day, month to month. It takes time and effort and passion to drive cultural change, as well as a few swift moves when the opportunities arise.
