I am actually surprised he is still at Carlton. If half of the rumours floating around the recruiting world were true he would be gone already.

I was told in January that we had approached several key recruiting staff but at this point we can't seem to attract anybody. Maybe it has something to do with what happened with Williams?

I honestly don't know but we are not exactly an employer of choice at the moment and with the current board and management issues would anyone join Carlton at the moment? :?

Maybe they look at the Swann/Sticks/McKay trio, and think..... no.

Guess that one will come back down to a) whether it can be justified promoting Johnson to the senior list, b) whether there's a better option than Wood as backup ruck after preliminary list lodgement, and c) whether we can delist Wood and pick him up again in the draft if all else fails.

True. But if we can't attract anyone & Rogers catches wind of us trying to replace him, he might ditch us & we could be left with no one.

To where though? I don't think there would be a lot of offers on the table.

Not implying there would be. But if he feels he is about to be pushed, he might jump before we get the chance

d) What kind of forwards we recruit in trade/FA and if we recruit a ruck to develop in the draft

..nearing midpoint of the season, we are miles away.... ..how are we going to engineer extra picks inside the top twenty..?.. ....and of any early picks, who in the upcoming draft looks a likely type to give quick impact..?.. ..if we go tall, as we should, are we ok with being another few years away from serious finals? And who of the current crop of regular senior players will be part of our next flag push..??..

Perhaps Brisbane will do a Melbourne from last year and trade their first round pick for a ready made experienced player but it will not be us as I can't see what we can offer.

Psych what did happen to Williams?

He went to the Tigers. Along with Grigg, Hampson and Malthouse possibly next.

some real scatter braind stuff in here
"catching whiff".. "jumping ship".... "maybe its because of williams" etc...

The truth is there are a LIMITED AMOUNT of recruiters who are rated.. and theyre limited edition because theyre good.. and they belong to good clubs.
Carlton as a BRAND doesnt have the pull it once did.. it is no longer seen as a desirable destination.
Which means you can only lure them here with money.... and most other great clubs can match the money we would throw at them... and besides.. they probably love their environment and what they have been capable of achieving
What were trying to do is lure a big fish... announce him.. put instant pressure on him etc
They would be sceptical of moving into our environment
What we need to do is set up a mechanism a plan for success.. so as to help make future recruiters better
Just bringing in blokes and sacking them doesnt cut it.. and they know it.

You can create your name in recruiting at Carlton if we set this thing up properly instead of looking at recruiters from clubs.
Then when you decide upon your team... they have an infrustructure thats professional and cutting edge to work with...

he used to be at carlton.... so he would be an easier one to find his email or number without us looking on Linkedin...

..I agree, a very good recruiter won't go to a club with shite development systems.... ..they go hand in hand, but in my opinion development is more important and comes first.. ..with that in place, you will attract and/or make your own..

Forget the recruiter and the money, just look at the phantom draft..
2009,
Had us taking Talia ahead of Lucas
2010,
Had us taking Isaac Smith ahead of Watson
2011,
Had us taking Sam Kerridge ahead of Bootsma
How hard is it????
Need to target/draft 2 tall forwards and another defender...
3 or 4 mids/utilities types who can kick, see docherty...
Make the tough calls on the whole club not just players..

Last night again showed you need to recruit players that can hold their nerve and perform in big moments. MM has a history of drafting kids that perform well in TAC finals. Big state in their career. Thomas and sidebottom jumped up the draft because of grand final play. That's what's we'd need good decision makers.
