You just couldn't make that shit up.

Absolutely staggering.

Bad enough that there's nothing in place but to be so !@#$%& dumb as to not realise what he's saying when he says shit like that is amazing.

He should be sacked for bring the club into disrepute.

That is quite scary really.

But whatever has happened over the last few weeks it's hard to ignore the steady turnaround and today's inspiring crescendo.

Longer-term it might not be the right result, but it's hard to see Ratten gone now.

Remember how Richmond used to have mediocre seasons, then make a late and belated charge for the finals when it's all too little too late? That's us this year, and if you take the season as a whole so far, it's nowhere near good enough. Not for me anyway.

But the team did very well today, no doubt. Well coached on the day, well played. Great stuff.

BUT, the job of the senior coach is much more than gameday. And Ratten's statement this morning shows just how out of his depth he is in some very important areas of the job. Unfortunately, it seems that perhaps the entire football department and club is just as clueless in several respects, so it's not just ratten's fault. But you look to your senior coach to lead the way.

Senior coach = most important football person in the club. Brett Ratten simply doesn't have the tools.

And anyone who thinks that one win = some kind of vindication of the guy's ability to coach this side to a flag is just as silly as anyone who thinks one loss or one bad game is enough to write a person off forever.

5 years. 100+ games. That's Ratten's story.

Actually its one of my favourite Ancient Greek concepts.

It sums us up nicely... were afraid of the constant flow at this club .. and want time to stand still...and things.
We do everything we can to attempt to make things static...minimum change.. cos change in the 'unknown'... the mentality is bunker down.... dont do anything to radical.... blah blah blah....
the reality is something is always flowing anyway....the seasons are passing and other clubs are adapting and players come and go .

So you cannot attempt to cling onto a moment of history forever.

Just think how slowly we have been trying to adapt from VFL to AFL.. and into the modern age....

Personel... around the club... cheque book answers.... white knights and generous Carltonphiles etc.... and a president who is an ex player and not quite presidential material.....coaches without a process... etc etc etc

  looking like a bit of a goose there big boy

Why? Because we win a game of football?

I'm really happy about today's result but it doesn't change the obvious shortcomings of our current board and coaching structures.

Come back and tell us it's all terrific when we're in the preliminary in a few weeks and I'll happily join you.

So your working on just afew more wins then?

I'm talking about the constant roonism that has been put up

Ya see, this is where I get confused.

Ratt's say's that if it hadn't been for all our injuries, some of the guy's who have played recently may not have got a gig this year. Like it or not this is a statement of fact.

The side containing the said kids comes out and beats the shizen out of our bitter rivals.

So instead of seeing this as a positive, it is somehow turned on it's head, baked for 20 minutes, covered in turd icing and voila!!!! it's become further evidence of Ratt's (alleged) incompetence.

It's a a modern day miracle. Loaves and fishes is a snap compared to what you fellas can accomplish with the twisting of facts.

Well done Ratt's. Killed 'em today, 2 more to go and hopefully we make the finals.

Very ordinary comment, but not unusual around here.

Isn't that a tautology? Anything that's ordinary is not unusual - it's usual.

It's this bit that's the real worry for some of us cimm. There just doesn't seem to be any form of plan for bringing in new blood for the team other than waiting for the injuries.

Maybe Ratts is gun shy because he's coaching for his job. Maybe not. But teams need constant injections of freshness and youth to maintain their positions let alone get better. Every year a team wins the flag and we all sit around saying "where do they get these kids from?" They come from being given a go and not having to hope some other poor bugger does a hammy. Our team's been like the Australian cricket team for years now; either you're in or your out.

The greatest pleasure I get from footy outside of winning games is from the hope that comes when you see a kid come into the seniors like Levi and take their chance. We need to see more of that but I have little faith in Ratts to bring them through unless forced to by circumstance.

Exactly.

So, why are you highlighting it if it was just an ordinary comment? It was an ordinary comment, in fact a very ordinary comment. So, nothing to get fussed about.

I think your response was pretty average.

Why is it a shame? I quite liked your response. It was pretty average. Had it been above average, I might have loved it. If it were below average I probably would've hated it. But it was average - I didn't mind it at all. I just questioned your highlighting of BV's post.

Two can play at the Verbs smart-arse responses game.....

If you say so, but BV's ordinary comment about Robbo, rather than being buried on the previous page has been given life on this page for many more to read. I'll take the "loss".

As others have said and the coach himself Levi has not been available and he wasn't ready when he did play his first game, but the MC had no choice there was nothing else.

I haven't seen today's game but from all accounts he was able to run the game out. Something he's struggled with.

I love seeing the new kids as well but we have people on here screaming for young blood at the same time as screaming for TBird.!!!

Notice the contradiction?

Does anyone remember the groan when they bought MClean back? Should we have left him out in favour of ROK or Kerr? Of course not, he's been a revelation and I've enjoyed his resurgence as much as anything The Big Belly has produced.

My issue is that no matter what Ratts does he's a sh1t sandwich for a lot of people. And no matter what he does, no matter how great the victory the gloss is taken off because of some marginally interestIng comment he made on radio.

It's baloney!
