By the way Synbad, I think most of what you say is fair enough although I am not with you on your stance on Carazzo.

If we lose to Adelaide I will know why you think we lost to Adelaide.
If we beat Adelaide what will be the reasons?

I'd love to see that!
let's do it!

but you would have to think we are coming off a better platform that them!
no reason to lose!
must win at home!

cazz. don't need it I come to talking Carlton!

They have a 2 day break advantage on us, they smashed Geelong and we lost to the Saints.
You have told us there midfield is much better than Essendon*, GWS and StKilda.
What do you mean we are coming of a better platform?

they don't have Judd!
they don't have three number one picks.
they finished near the bottom.
but none expected them to be playing good footy!

hats off to a good rookie coach!

They simply wanted the footy more than us....they were desperate; and we weren't.

we have an uncontested style of game.
we are conditioned to that.
we Jack contested ball winners.
contested is not our natural mode of play.
we have ball winners but not enough.
we have many flanker types and talls on the sidelines but not many midfielders to call upon.

we have many taggers.

but in the guts!where the game is being played and generated the cupboard is bare!

so the more we looked pretty playing uncontested footy the more we didn't pay attention to it!

now teams have woken up and even greater western Sydney who concentrated on taking midfielders gave us a fright.

whilst the spread is great we need balance!

This is what I ment and agree with.
I have been off and on Ratten as a coach but this is his and Carltons breaking point.
He is there to build a team, a team that can go out and won't need to be coached.
This team will rectify its own problems and motivate from within.
This comes down to the coach to instill belief, knowledge and strenght.
You condition your players to play footy not robots that only know one direction then fall apart when things aren't going to plan.
The great sides play footy they are not valued by thier stats, that's a by product of their output.
Like GWS you teach them the hunger first and the rest will follow.

Bit of spin there Synbad. At what part of the 11 goal win did you get a fright.

ultimately I knew we would win.
having less rotations due to injuries on the day and a heap of first year players made sure we did.

still! it was even more of an eye opener than the bombers game for me!

you were happy!that's where we differ.

Agreed but that is not what he was saying. He got a fright. Thought we were going to get done.

Helps put all his after loss doom and gloom posts into perspective. He is a panic merchant !

Not the case. I love coming on here after a loss and talking about football and ways i think we can improve and ways others think we can improve.
Even like the odd discussion with you.........when you are actually talking footy rather than attempting to gather a lynchmob with doom and gloom and spin like that clever little line
you slotted in above. I could imagine the odd kid reading that and thinking "yeah they almost had us". I am with that guy. 11 goal win. No fright.

The blues have problems. Teams are onto what we are trying to do. Time to re adjust and get some more wins on the board. We have talent on the ground and off it. We have gotten ahead of ourselves. Not in a cocky way but more in the way we play and drifted from the defensive aspects of our game. Tighten that up, engage in the fight and sort out the basics and the wins will come again.

Not sure what I did to get into the naughty corner. We should be playing a prelim this year at least. That's what we've committed to do and it is very modest improvement over last year (less than a goal). I am not sure why supporters shouldn't be disappointed and critical after we lose games to teams we think we are ahead of, and were ahead of last year. Carlton wasn't a great club in the past by accepting mediocrity.

As for not appearing when we win, well I didn't comment on the GWS game because I wasn't there (possibly the least appealing fixture Carlton have ever played) but I think I was on after the Woods and Freeo as I was after the Dons and Saints.

And beating the Crows will be good, but doesn't excuse the performance against the Saints. In fact if we win it would be reasonable to ask why the coaches can't get a consistent effort from a team aiming at the prelim final.

after all that we have gone through you are ecstatic we are flaky, have a weird list and kick away from greater western in the last quarter!
you are happy they beat us in contested footy.
that says it all!

that's not where this club should be at right now and you know it.

that game was a disgrace and so was Monday forget about what the bombers did to us.

at what point do you find things unacceptable? lol.

is there a threshold that you believe we cannot continue on to be mediocre?

because if you are not making the mediocre call now you are embracing mediocrity!

there is nothing to be proud about when everything is acceptable..

its a killer of excellence!

you are in the naughty corner because you can't see we are too young and need time.

You just put a paragraph of words into my mouth. Good work !

That loss on Monday was UNACCEPTABLE !! I have had ENOUGH !!!! We better get better !!!!! I got FRIGHTENED by GWS !!!!

There you go.

Cant say that is a better way to kill my time than having a chat about ways i think we can improve and put an end to what teams are doing to the way we want to play.

Caz, you are clutching at straws if your best shot at Synbad, for some accurate criticism is "you only come on here when we lose".
For what it's worth there is a division on this forum between the "realists" and the "blind optimists" ..... it may be a rude shock to you but the realists are calling it as it is and not succumbing to a bubble of media hype and internal club spruiking that is creating the illusion that we are on the cusp of sustained (top 4) success. Remember Caz top 4 was the hype we have been sold.

we should be a top four side!
we are right now.
but I don't think we will be.

we will blame the tackle on carrots!
its a game of kur plonk.
carrots was the straw that sent all the marbles tumbling down!
club can't play now. carrots is missing!
we are unlucky!

otherwise we would have been flag favourites and won the bloody thing!
