How can blatant umpiring incompetence turn into Fev-bashing?!!? They didn't cost us the game but that was unbelievably pathetic today. An extremely disgraceful umpiring performance. Fev has every right to crack the sh!ts. It borders on cheating

Can someone for the life of me tell me why Jason Saddington played ahead of 1) Paul Bower or 2) Mark Austin. Saddington used to be a reasonable player but is finished. He played like a pregnant woman today. Simple. We missed Eddie Betts today, had no alternative avenues to goal. Also, how does Adam Bentick not get a game. Surely, surely, he is better than Stephen Browne and Jordan Russell. Bentick gets absolutely crucified by the match committee and I think he will leave in search of opportunity, and I cant blame him.

Eddie Betts, everything you stated makes sense and is 100% logical.

For that, I think you should be punihsed. - 1 week ban from Talking Carlton.... :)

I do think Bentick is a bit slow though...but he still has more upside than Russell and Saddington.

We missed Carlos today. He is the only guy on our list who can take the gorillas. Come back Carlos, pretty please!!!

Bentick would've rendered Hale goalless and kicked 5 himself.

Pretty poor performance from us today.

If we are to be a force next year we'll need a lot of improvement.

Fev needs to do the 1%'s ALL the time. And quit bitchin to the umps. Yes they're shit but let it go and play the ball.

Practice all summer kicking to advandage.

Tactics. Can we have some please. North had us cold when we kicked in all day.

We pretty much have the players we need in all areas but the young fellas need time to grow into their roles. Especially the ruck.

I think we may actually be in a position to simply draft the best player with each pick. Although a small forward with some pace would be nice.

Point 1. I hope so

Point 2. What is Betts?

We didn't lose the game because of poor umpiring.

But the umpiring with Fev is a joke. If it's a free kick, it's a free kick. It doesn't matter what Fev said to the umpires 10 minutes beforehand, a free kick has to be paid on its merits.

The fact is that Fev is constantly held when going for marks, but does not get the free kicks that other forwards get. You can't honestly argue that because the umpires 'dislike' Fev or he mouths off to them etc, they can have their retribution by not awarding him a free kick, if it is obvious that a free kick would be justified. How can a player's relationship with an umpire determine whether or not he will be awarded a free kick in any given situation?

If Fev (or any player) merits a free kick then a free kick has to be paid.

Do you really think one small forward is enough? Have you been watching footy this year? How about today?

Well that was interesting!

In all fairness it didn't show much we didn't know. North are probably the best side in the comp behind Geelong at the moment.

Ratten stated at the start of the year that this year was all about development, sorting out who is up to it and getting the Carlton swagger back.

I think that has been achieved. Atmosphere was the best I have felt all year (up til 1/4 time)

What I saw today was a young side getting fatigued towards the end of a long year. It was almost like watching a Pagan coached side? We ran but didn't work the other way and was undisciplined, probably the worst we have been this year. We looked flat!

It was also hard for Ratts as he didn't have much flexibility

Observations:

Cloke - cannot play ruck but MAY hold down CHF
Fisher - nothing has changed my mind
Saddington - gone, but I don't think he was helped much.
Russell - does a couple of good things then nothing good
Fev - believe me, I am afraid this isn't the worst of it, for me Ratts is not tough enough on him
Browne - needs to given a full run in one position
Armfield - will learn a lot form today
Hampson - Raw but we look better with him there
Thornton - not sure what to think or what his best role is?

Another preseason will help kids, need to keep building on body strength
Addition of Hadley, Bannister, Houlihan will help.

Setanta, Austin need to be given key position roles next year with Jamo as third tall. Waite as loose man.

All in all still a good year, tough decisions over summer are needed to keep developing.

Hard to cop, but North played a strong brand of football. Don't blame anybody but ourselves.

Points to consider.
1) North pushed bigger bodied players into today's team.
2) Midfieid consisted of matured age players (hard at it types) no younger or smaller framed guys rotated through there until late in the third quarter.
3) Tall strong rucks ensuring the ball is fed to their midfielders!!
4) Multiple goal kickers, many options up forward, even with campbell and thomas being shut down!!
5) Inability to hit targets when North implemented a half ground zone press (basketball tactic). Didn't seem to know how to manouvre through it.
6) Allowed firrito to play a sweeping role, and still looking at fev as our only forward option, when we streamed through the midfield!!

As disappointing as today was, just remember the key to Norths win today was their senior mature players (not the second or third tier younger group).

Future still looks very rosy for the blues. Still believe our list has a lot of upside compared to Norths.

Keep the faith!!

You got it.

We need a tall player around 200cm able to play in the backline against the resting ruckman/ gorilla.

Oh yeah, we do have one....Setanta.

I wonder what all the super intelligent Setanta bashers are going to say about curbing Hale/ resting ruckman. That's 10 games now we have been smashed in that position alone.

Saddo was born in Australia and played footy all his life and still got smashed....why? Not because he was born where he was, or because he's a good or bad footy player; he was just too short to play that role against Hale/ resting ruckmen. Saddo, like Thornton and Bower is 193cm, Austin, Waite and Jamison are 194cm; that's our height for the backline.

When are we going to wake up? If we lose Setanta and Aisake, we are going to experience the same old shit next year. Keep them, and we can plug that hole in 2009.

I agree, going to be very interesting to see who the 8-10 players delisted this year will be?
