I hope Thornton builds some momentum from his 2nd half today and takes it into rnd 1.

....and I hope it disappears as soon as Carlos regains full fitness.

Only 7 months to go before Thornton goes to the Dawks.

Great to see the Juddster in the Navy Blue. Blue skies only for him...this was just a little opener to get the cobbwebs out. And no doubt that Bower will be a star, just very talented. Spewing for 1AW, we need him badly.

Kreuzer......freak. The tanking was worth it big time.

Eddie.......last season for him. Too small and goes missing too often.
Thornton........worrying signs.

Bring on Rd 1.........

I was right where AW hurt himself aswell and at first i thought it was his shoulder but then he grabbed his had (probably to support his shoulder now that i think of it) But one thing i noticed is that when he left the ground at the break he had his hands on his head so that would be a bit of a better sign for a shoulder injury would it?

Iv never hurt my shoulder before so i wouldn't have a clue...

Fantastic day though, good to have a crowd back at PP!

ive had multiple shoulder dislocations and injuries and bad ones at that

to have the arm above the head is a good sign

could still be a few weeks injury but not a long term thing then

Had a great day today sitting in the Heatly stand end with my wife.

I thought we played ok and scored well in the end, considering how many behinds we kicked.

The standout today for mine was PAUL BOWER. When the game was there to be won he stepped up and played superbly, I now know he will be a very valuable player for us over the coming years.

JAKE was the other big suprise, took some great marks after presenting well for his team mates, and kicked beautifully.

JUDD did what he had to with no fuss, and will get better with each game into his legs.

KRUEZER was fantastic and will be our best ever KPP taken through the draft system.

WAITE was good and will definetly stay back with Edwards looking great, and Fish to return.

MURPHY was in everything and used the ball nicely.

THORNTON was ordinary in the first half, but after that he just got better and better and finished welll ontop. Nice timing with RD1 2 weeks away.

SIMMO and HEATH were great around the ground.

The big FEV was starting to hit some form and will be cherry ripe for RD1

JAMISON was solid as usual, it's unbelievable how good this guy is with so little experiance. He will be the cornerstone of our defence for many years......

Can't wait to throw Stevens, Walker, Fish, and Ando into the squad.

Bring on RD 1!!!!!!

Great arvo

Judd - ahh, very funny at the start where the boys were obviously instructed to give Judd a few touches - reckon he had 4 before a minute was up.

Kreuser.... oh boy... Be excited, be very excited!

Murphy did some good things, Carrots was everywhere and Jamo worked hard.

It broke my heart seeing AW go down, hope the kid is okay.

We should have led after about 15 minutes in the first for the rest but shite kicking again!!!!

I too am worried about T-Bird and Betts and Carlos just looked skinny out there. Made a few errors.

Judd

there is no way they could have possibly worked that out. members were just showing their cards and walking in through the turnstiles without scanning anything.

I am about to go to bed after a big day at work and party afterwards. So who won this evening? With my dial up it will take me 3 hours to get through all these pages to find out the result.

Maybe I will go and visit a better website with the action all there after one click. Note to admin "Show latest score on header of website".

Good night.

Browne seemed to lack a bit of awareness... maybe just picking up the pace of the game.

I thought Simpson was BOG.

Just got back myself (went down Lygon with my old man afterwards to have a bite), and quite happy with the overall result. Yes, this was just a practice game but there are two things I think are important to mention

1) This was a strong Bulldogs team with few (if any) players out, and if you look at their best it was the usual suspects. Whereas for us it was a combination of experienced players and kids.
2) The spirit around the ground was addictive, and no doubt that, with the inclusion of Judd in the middle, energised the players even more. Their confidence grows.

Scrappy first quarter, which has been a symptom of our whole pre-season thus far. Took a little while to settle down. Doggies definitely looked sharper at the beginning of the game, and more importantly took advantage of their opoprtunities (with quite a lot of help from the umps mind you). For the first 10-15 minutes it looked like a finals contender playing a bottom side. But once the boys settled down, they gradually wore them down, and the Dogs were under constant pressure and making lots of mistakes, which was the opposite of the first qtr.

Judd: Was on and off the field A LOT. That he could still rack up 20 possies is a sign of how good this guy is. Hearing the crowd go up with every touch of the ball I think was duplicated amongst the playing group. You could tell they wanted to play harder with this bloke around. Played well, didn't end up sore, kicked a goal. I love the man.

Kreuzer: Again, practice game. But if this is what we can expect from this young man on a regular basis, we've got something special on our hands. Moves very well (ran down a couple of smaller Doggies players on different occasions), has great smarts, and definitely held his own against a very good ruck pairing for the dogs. Seemed to be everywhere in the 2nd half, and his commitment and second efforts are astounding. Will be a star.

Murphy: I didn't see the incident involving Hahn (my view was blocked), but honestly didn't think it could've been too serious given that none of the Doggies players remonstrated after the fact. So I thought it had to be just a solid but fair bump. Excellent again, and forget all this bullshit about poor kicking, the guy's poise is superb. Will be a major feature in our engine room this year. Carrots fits the same bill too.

Simpson: BOG in the first half for me. Speed, commitment, courage. The works. Also looks to have developed an ok right foot too.

Gibbs: Didn't see him get A LOT of the ball (was hard to see sometimes), but when he did have it always (except for one time) delivered it precisely and calmly.

Waite/Bower: Kept our defence together. In the first half when Thornton, Jamison and Setanta were all struggling, it was these two that slowed the bleeding. Then in the second half both would back themselves at every opportunity and in the case of Waite, would produce special moments. With Thornton and Jamison looking after things down back in the 2nd half, these two set up many of our attacking runs.

Fev: Looked like he was going to mark everything in the first half. The big dukes are most certainly back, and his second efforts continue to improve. Still missed a few, but in fairness he didn't have many easy shots.

Edwards: Pencil this guy in for round 1. Marking, kicking, presenting. Probably equal with Fev today as our most potent forward. A player this one.

Walker: I thought when he laid the tackle that he seemed to go in too hard for the situation, then when he stayed down I got worried. I didn't know whether it was his shoulder or something else. I saw him leave the ground, but thought it couldn't be too serious because he had his hands up to his head (which told me it couldn't be a serious shoulder problem) and he wasn't limping. So my thoughts were that he'd be sore, might miss a couple, but more likely will be alright. Time will tell though.

Browne: Loved his endeavour, and how even for one so young and inexperienced, he doesn't back down. Will be a very good tough-nut for us, but still seems to be adjusting to the pace of AFL, as he got caught a couple of times.

Cloke: As always, tried his guts out all-day, and will provide that solid body in the ruck to give our young'uns some respite. Hate to use the word, but definitely has presence.

Hartlett: Just good to see him playing and moving freely. Would've been better if he kicked a goal or two though.

Houlihan, Thornton, Setanta, Betts, Russell: Just didn't play well. Although Houlihan and Thornton did improve as the game wore on. The others struggled.

Hampson, Hadley, Bannister: Were constantly running off and on the ground, so didn't really get much chance to do much. Ratts obviously wanted to nurse them through it.

I'm probably missing a few, but these are the ones I remember. Although on the negative side we still are struggling with, although these all should improve:
- Handballing to stationary/about to be tackled targets
- Kicking for goal
- Sloppy tackling
- Tunnel-vision when going forward
- Not using the corridor enough (played much better when we did)

Overall though, a great day, a very good win against a quality opponent, and hopes we'll only get better from here.

Cross, Lake(Harris), Everitt, Giansiracusa, Ray, Williams. Not saying they would have made the difference but there are some very good players who missed for the Dogs.

I'm glad to read the comments about Walker being able to put his hands over his head.

Hopefully the worst case is he'll only miss a couple of matches.

I was perched in the Heatley Stand for the first half before having to leave and, in no particular order, these were my humble observations
Kreuzer was impressive around the ground. Great speed, good overhead, something very special but needs to time his leaps in the centre ruck a bit better
Browne got a bit of a run without doing anything much. Played on Aker for a while which would have been great experience for the youngster
Simmo roaming all over the ground getting better with his right foot.
Rotations and plenty of them. Gibbs, Banno, Browne rotated onto Aker during the second quarter
Edwards played from the goalsquare and worked hard. At centre bounces Fev was 20mtrs ahead of him, Cloke standing near to him to the left position and Hartlett closer to true centre half forward. Bullies employed the tactic of lining their forawrds up single file at centre bounces.
Eddie, if anything looked sluggish if not slow. Saw a couple of Bullies run away from him on a couple of occasions.
Griffen played on Judd for awhile and ran off him to kick a nice goal while Judd was on the bottom of a pack.
Skills only fair but endeavour could not be questioned. Worked hard to score a goal only to watch it get whisked away from the centre for a quick reply. Over used the ball and Bullies would get the inevitable turnover.
Need lots of work at the stopages. Judd was active with the group telling them where to stand giving encouragement.
Gibbs good, Murphy good but I wish people wouldn't set him up so much by kicking high balls to him. He'd still mark them though 8)

and that's about it. Apologies if I forgot something

Does anyone know why Pfeiffer did not play ? Hope its nothing sinister. Was surprised.......

Edwards was awesome by the way. The last contested mark. I could hear the ball slap in his hands. Awesome how Juddy came and praised him straight away.
