I think this the MAIN reason why we chased Warnock and re-signed Cloke.

The question wasn't about getting a ruckman....the question was,
"How do we support Fev up forward?"
get someone who can take a mark and play off the ground
"Who would that be?"
Well we could try and get an O'Keefe type player, but gee Kreuzer could do it blindfolded except we need him in the ruck
"how do we keep Krooze in the forward line, and out of the ruck?"
well we need a ruckman or two...either an experienced gun who can ruck all day? (Does this person exist) or a couple with various attributes, say strong body and good leap.
"Hey we have Hammer and Cloke - one can leap , the other is ok at the body on body stuff, how about them?"
Yes, but you can't rely on just them for an entire season...you would need someone who can be swapped for either....preferably a really tall type if they're not strong in the body"

no...I wonder who that may be...
Media: (because they think it through so well)
"Blues chase Warnock -
Carlton is chasing Warnock to bolster their ruck stocks"

Herald Sun reader:
"gee...we don't have enough young ruckmen on the list, I hope we can get him, apparently he is brilliant and worth $1M per year over 1000 years"
Ratten has quite rightly come out and said "don't expect too much from Warnock in the first year or two.." in other words, they will be cycling between the four of them (Blues and Bullants) and Warnock is by no means a "No 1 ruckmen"

Everyone happy with my view of why we picked up Warnock???

I would actually say this is the secondary reason as to why they drafter Warnock this year ...............

He has had 3 years in the system, and probably wont start "dominating" games for another year or two, but how much do you think it would cost us to get Warnock in a year or 2 ??? #6 would have been gone, along with a good player MINIMUM IMO. Plus the introduction of the new clubs will make Ruckmen more valuable than oil (well before the Olympics when it was over $150 a barrel ...............)

So my point is, the ability to play Warnock and Cloke as the primary ruckmen, and move Kreuzer up to the forward line, is a nice side effect of the Warnock deal, but the primary goal IMO was to secure a giant who could tuck for 8+ years, dominate for at least 6, and to protect Kreuzer from "Fraser fizzle" ............

Any chance that impacts on our ability to deal for RoK Synners?

I understand it will be tied up tomorrow... FRIDAY... :-D

No the Murphy situation will have no bearing on what happens to ROK

then how does that explain Hammer?...did we recruit him for the Bullants?

billc3 . . . Hammer will need at least 1 more season in the twos before he is ready to step up to AFL standard . Maybe 2 more years .
MC is looking ahead and trying to give us a chance of immediate improvement on the ladder as well .

Agree totally Klakker, still doesn't change the point of my post...Warnock is maybe 1 year ahead of Hammer, still not a No1 ruckman. It could be argued that Kreuzer is already ahead of both ...depends on how you rate "development".

Still think the main reason for getting Warnock is to "rest/develop" the Krooze!...and a blioody good reason too!

I heard he grew in 2008; and may still be going.

At that rate, he's going to take a few years to fill out.

I reckon we got a ruckman to make sure we have the midfield right, by building security of supply from the ruckmen, as rucks, marking options, and (these days) as linkmen. It's a good thing all our ruckmen now can all run fast and for long periods.......and they're all still under 22!

It's all music to the likes of Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Stevens, Simpson, Walker, Scotland, Grigg and so on.

After that....it's get the spine right with CHF CHB. Waite can playe either end, but now with Kreuzer freed up to take CHF, Waite can stabilise the defense. If Warnock can go back to help the defense (whilst Kreuzer rucks the forwardline), he can cut off a bit of high ball supply from the opposition.

Plus the fact that ruckmen are going to be as rare (and expensive) as hens teeth as mentioned by coryne.

There was a great case for getting Warnock. There are very few doubters in the potential of this Warnock deal. Everone knows we had to do it.

So I just had a look at the contract list and it would seem that we still have Hoops and Bentick to re-sign.

Anyone have any news on when these may be done?

I also think Edwards, Hartlett and Bannister are yet to sign, I added them as 1 year deals based on some rumours

I'm sure I recall Ratten saying that Warnock isn't on the money reported in the media, but that the Club did end up giving him 4 years. So does that make it official?

Haven't seen anything about some players re signing .

Bannister
Houlihan
Bentick
Wiggins

Have any of them signed yet ? If not , what is happening with them ?
Is there anybody else that hasn't ?
Their future was supposed to be discussed by the MC on Tuesday . Did that happen , does anyone know ?

Wiggins is probably winging that he had a reasonable year and now wants more than the base rate... don't give it to him

The rest... should have been delisted. If they're all not on base rate then they aren't worth the trouble.

Time to get tough blues. No passengers!

Wasn't sure where to put this, so sticking it here.

From the Age today...

Quote:
Hawthorn was understood to have only just scraped above the permissible bottom level of 92.5% of the total-player-payments amount this year. Only North Melbourne is believed to have paid its players less.

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/h ... 43784.html

And IIRC, Franklin and Hodge are signed till 2010.

That's an amazing effort, they have managed their list brilliantly. We need to make sure we keep our TPP under control.
