actually I had a short conversation with sticks last night at the AGM - I am sure that you are aware of the quality of his character and loyalty to the club.

All views are fair game a far as I'm concerned provided they are not insulting and descriminatory in nature. Nobody denies the DOM's football ability and courage - but if Warby is going to include comments made by DOM concerning sledging of aboriginal players like the krakoers and rioli, no matter how long ago they were then its normal to expect some sort of feed back - Dont you think?

I've even surprised myself with this one!....didn't know I had it!

As we all know....Fev was picked by us in the 1998 National Draft as a long term project.

He almost missed his first game (one of two he played off the bench in 1999) when his car broke down; but his Mum picked him up!

Because of the end of the Century (The Millennium)....the AFL and Ansett orchestrated an Ansett Australia Cup (preseason comp.)
Night Match against Collingwood on New Years Eve 1999.

Fevola was an absolute star; kicking 12 goals; setting a new record for the preseason Competition.....oh....and we won!

This small article is from The Age on Monday morning January 6- 2000.

I don't think that this Fevola fella is going to cut it at AFL level.

It was February 9 2007; when it was announced at Princes Park, that Richard Pratt had agreed to step in as Club President....a great day !

P.S. Please excuse the sizing....it's difficult to reduce whole Herald Sun pages down to computer screen size and still have legibility.

Rod Ashman was one of our greatest ever Rovers and was selected in the Carlton Team of the Century.

Rod Ashman..from Eaglehawk....1973-1986.......236 games and 370 goals.

Born: 3-12-1954....175cm and 73kg.....he missed our 1979 Premiership side through injury; but was a vital cog in our 1981-82 Premierships.

The following tells the story of Ashy's 1981; when he won nearly every Award but our Club Award; and the Brownlow..amazingly missing out on both by just one vote each!.....he was a truly great player.

Boy did I miss some great times!

I remember watching the 1977 drawn GF, and a couple of games since then with Big Bruce running around but I was nowhere near as into it as I am today

These articles are ace - cheers warbs!

I remember taking a lazy few hundred of a Scum Supporter who fancied himself as a bit of a "Bookie" at Uni.

Got about 8 to 1 (should have been more) and backed Ashy for a Top 3 finish in the Brownlow that year. :-D

Which uni did you go to?! In my day, a uni student's lazy few-hundred was, well, what he had to live on for the month / quarter / year (depending on what course he was doing)

That was easy money mate!.....and do you remember that Ashy took so many hits to the head that he had to wear a helmet from 1982 onwards?

Most hits came compliments of Sheedy's Scum. A scum game was never complete in those days without Marcou, Glasscott and others from the Mosquito Fleet getting stretchered off or bandaged up - is it any wonder Ashman took to wearing his helmet. :x

Never stopped his effectiveness though 8)

Do you remember those super torpedo punt goals he used to kick from our Centre Half Forward at Princes Park. 8)

Yes I do!.....and what about his ability to wrongfoot an opponent, and to turn him inside out?

One of his party tricks was usually reserved for in front of us at the

Heatley/Social Club end in the pocket, where he'd be heading for goal

near the boundary; and his opponent would be expecting him to swing

around on his left to open up the goals; but he'd swivel back towards the

boundary....wrongfooting his opponent completely.....then he would

outsprint him into an open goal.....he was poetry in motion....a class act.

There was a game at Victoria Park in 1978 - it was Jezza's First Game as Coach - and we were on the bottom of the ladder and expected to lose.

Ashman played as a decoy Full Forward - cant remember who he was playing on but he kicked 3 or 4 goals - and about 3 of them were going of for the mark tapping them over his head and roving his own taps - this was at the Yarra Falls end of the ground.

I was at that end of the ground - great day and even better giving it to Filth Supporters on the Bulleen Bus on the way home. 8)
