If Charlie plays in 7 days, and Walsh returns as expected ouy injury list looks alright.,

Notable players missing to injury is Newman, Smith, Cincotta & Pttonet.

Compare that to the 4 teams playing this zero round. with stars out plus some. Can only conclude we have a fitter list and a good fixture.

Stars are lining.

LNow that Charlie is declared a non starter for round 1, looks like we start the season with a total of 10 out injured.
Not all Best 23 starters, but significant players missing.

Will miss Curnow, Newman, Cincotta and Smith all possibly best 23

Pitto may have got a chance with Charlie out. Durdin also competing against Motlop and Fantasia for a spot.

Ben may have missed his chance to debut along with Smith.

O'Keefe, Duffy and Monohan the others.

Charlie could play, but likely to return next round vs Hawks.

Fingers crossed injury gods look after us this year.

Re: Walsh: Voss indicated it would depend how he pulls up from training but I couldn’t see a problem.
Harry missed match sim- taking it easy?
Cotterall just doing goal kicking
MCG had a sore moment but got back out and ran well
Fog had cap (no contact?) but fully involved
Boyd fully involved

Harry missed match sim after coming off at 1/4 time last weekend for "managed minutes"

What are the odds on him either not being selected or being a late withdrawal on Thursday?

I haven't heard a thing about Harry's knee other than rumours and that he missed the sim match.

he looked fine after the GWS match. Wasn't limping. Looked happy.

Part of the problem with an open training session is the ‘crowd analysis’ effect. It maybe common for a whole bunch of reasons to manage players but harder to hide them in an open training…
Having said that I really don’t want to take Richmond lightly and hope to see all of H, cotterall, fog and Walsh available….
(Pretty confident with fog and Walsh…)

Orazio Fantasia has a soft tissue injury and will miss Carlton’s season opener against Richmond, @StevoMedia tells @RSNBreakfast

so who plays as our small(ish) forwards?

Motlop, Fog, Cottrell - am I missing anyone?

Elijah surely a lock to play now.

I think our squad of small forwards is Williams, Fantasia, Motlop, Fogarty, Durdin, Evans and White. That's a lot.

I thought the only locks for small forward role were Williams and Fantasia.

Motlop, Fogarty and Evans are the only other smalls to consider for selection imo, if MC go with 3 smalls, with Durdin out of contention and White still developing.

I think Motlop secures his spot in 22, taking Fantasia's spot, following all the hype he received for his preseason, and after kicking 3 goals against Saints. Fogarty, if he's fit is sub, or MC may pick Lord as sub.

At 184cm, I don't think Cottrell is pigeon holed as a small forward, but more of a hard running HF/wing.

Elijah is almost 10cm taller than our small forwards. He's big bodied HF-Mid. Can mark. Has a huge engine. Taller than Hewett

I expect Elijah and Cottrell to be selected as HHF's, if fit.

Interesting if they run Walsh for the full game since he has not had a run in any praccy games.
Worth starting him off as sub?

No

The guy is a machine.

He doesn't need a running start, as he proved last year and the year before that.

He had a slight hammy strain. How long has he had off to recover for that? Plenty.

He hasn't been sitting back idle. He can't.

He is my pick for Brownlow this year.

At 186cm, neither is Williams.
