Speaking of Ratts.

Apart from Walker and Yazz changing ends and Murph getting 7 tackles we didn't look a whole lot different in set up.
3 taggers, bombs on the heads of the tall forwards with the little guys doing the damage, Gibbs sweeping. Judd isn't the only ball getter now so I suppose that's a change.

I thought our defensive efforts in contested ball were much better against the WCE but we seemed to be in a bit of a gamble against the Crows.

Hard to tell on telly, but I'm hoping we are a bit tougher against top 4 contenders.

so the only changes are walkz and yazz???

  and your profile claims you've been a member since 2007. It is well known that posts on fan sites DO affect the teams performance, as do:
Hair styles
Boot colours
Shoulder tape
Beards

I don't know why people find those kinds of posts ironic, that's what these kinds of forums are about. If we can't take as granted the basic pretense that we are somehow active participants, it would be like the AFL equivalent of exchanging pleasantries about the weather.

Simmo on triple M on the weekend said that basically nothing has really changed much apart from a couple positional changes that your mentioned.

Just notice the intensity up mainly, but you get that with a new coach with something to prove each game.

So according to your expert watching of football you agree with cimm?

Laidler
Duigan
Judd
Simpson
Curnow
Murph
Garlett
Lucas
just to name a few ...

all playing similar roles???
Forget about the Yarran Walkz change up for a minute...

You two havent spotted anything different??
Nor more long kicking.. and looking for the boundary more??

blocks and shepherds... ??

just walkz and yarran for u too.. and intensity up abit.. cos new coaches can do that...???

Yeah sure theyre not kicking a soccer ball around.. and its not a rugby goal theyre kicking to... but youre sure everythings the same??

Haven't said that at all Synners but no doubt you will treat us to 25 pages of mouth turds until everyone gives up or hell freezes over.

Keep trolling.

cimm i thought u were trying to say the only thing you have gotten from this 1 million dollar change in coaches is yarran to forward line and walkz to defence...

and apart from that through your telly you havent been able to see much else going on

sorry... not trolling just addressing your concerns for our waste of 1 million dollars

i venture to say that most players in the side are much happier too...i can almost see a smile on their faces

The others need to "reinvent themselves" as Mick put it...

Speaking of reinventing, I'm looking forward to seeing what effect if any it has on Laidler, if versatility is king a player like Laidler being capable of playing either end if the ground can be a handy thing

Laidler is an interesting one. Surely MM sees him being in the side soon. He was probably our first picked defender in 2011. Is it just form/fitness or does he really want him to go forward at times?

I think it was a fitness / confidence thing .. Coming back from injury... But I did hear a smirky remark from Robbo a few weeks back in one of the footy segments making reference to His omission from the opening game.. Came across as though there was another issue in the mix...

A lot of those things Ratts got baked for. Not so much Malthouse. Add Malthouses using stats to kill time in pressers and closed training sessions to the list also. Posters lost their minds over that last year.

Now before i trigger Synbad's 5 years - 1 Elim tick i would like to point out that most of us thought Ratts had had enough time to put together a list and train it up to give it a shake and agreed he should be moved on but during last season some of the reasons people were giving to see the end of Ratts were laughable.

..forward shmorward.. ....Laids is a defender, and if he can't get over his injury/fitness/form issues, he's depth and tradebait.. ..the idea of him making it as a fwd is his last ditch effort to get into the side.. ..he might have the odd cameo performance up fwd, much like Doogs vs pies last year,, but that doesn't make him a fwd, it just makes him lucky.. ..once.. ..maybe twice..

Maybe a Goldsack type player.

He is slow. Once the ball is gets over the top he gets smashed for pace. Leave that spot for onballer types.
Fullback if Jamo is out might suit him.

Yeah, I think Mick's issue with Laidler is lack of pace in the back line, being a mid sized defender they need to have some speed as well, like Walks, Touhy, Lucas, Simmo and White etc.

Maybe it is the combination of recovering from the knee and confidence that laids is struggling at the mo, but I think for team balance both Duigan and laids are seen as a little too slow and thats why he is being trialled as a forward.

hopefully Laids ability to read the play will make up for his lack of pace, in much the same way as Brock does.

Ridiculous to compare laidler to simmo and Lucas. Even tuohy is a stretch. They are completely different types of players and perform completely different roles.

If as many have suggested, Malthouse doesn't rate Laidler because of his pace, then I feel sorry for us because we will lose a very good player shortly.

Not really comparing them at all, I'm suggesting that the mentioned players are currently playing roles in the back line and also have pace, laidler and Duigan are not in the team and they are on the slower end of the spectrum!

The players I mentioned are not 3rd man up types but do leave their man to help out and with jamo and hendo fit mick has been using runners out of the back line and Gibbs to provide cover.

Setup is different currently but of course it may change with different matchups/teams.
