Carlton of the previous two seasons would lose this sort of game - heavy favourites in a game to consolidate our ladder position.

I reckon Lyon will make it very ugly, as I can't see how they'll win otherwise. Lose this and its season over for the Saints.

That's like saying a salesman's most important role is customer service. :P

Needs to be able to stop his opponent first and foremost. Thornton can do the job as well as White can in my book.

If Baker starts the rough stuff I'll be hoping he's countered with a firm but legal response in the clinches.

Both points are equally important.
Defenders need to be attacking in mindset with effective decision making and disposal skills together with good defensive 1 on 1 skills.

Equally important? Let's just play 6 midfielders in defence then. ;)

The rest is important, but you need to be able to keep with your man and have a good chance in the 1-on-1s to be a good defender.

Good read and insight into the modern game.

I think carlton will take every opportunity to play a running player ahead of tall player for reasons stated in the article. If we can get away with it we will do it.

Notice how Betts doesn't get a mention in the article.

I notice how some people here complain that the newspapers never write good articles about us; they love the pies and bombers. Yet when they do ie. this last week after the Sydney game, people say it's being overconfident and shouldn't let it get to our heads.

Anyway, just hoping we can win :)

..not fussed, Betts has been doing ok in this regard also.. ..perhaps not racked up as many tackles, but he's be ok to good.. .if it was just jeff and walker up fwd with no help from betts we wouldnt be so successful atr locking the ball up F50..

They can do that, ut we'd have to be very wasteful and inaccurate and them very efficient and accurate for them to have any chance of winning.

There is reference on the AFL website to White being doubtful, but if you click on it, it just takes you to the named teams.

Reported on AFL website that White has a suspected fractured leg  :banghead:
Although it also says that Watson will be the likely replacement :sly:

Thornton will come in.

Zac Touhy - has to be a chance to be sub if White is out

Gibbs will move back to defence like he did against The Swans - White played the second half up forward

I just think Thornton seems to be on the nose at the moment
