Everyone should def relax as frustrating as it they are def peeking at the wrong time of the seeason
whilst we are only going to get better. All these big close games will be beneficial in the long run for
all our young blokes. The sooner we get the big basketballer hampson out of the side the better, he gives us nothing.
Collins was very bad but def had to give him a run.
Our bottom 5 or 6 were very ordinary yest but our depth at the club now will fix this prob.

Also why didnt Robbo play on fletcher the bloke towled him up last time??
I thought that was a vital match up??

Very rarely a poster here, but an avid reader. Having said that, time to put my 2 cents worth in.

I'm just not enjoying watching us play, simple as that. There is very little on the park that inspires me. I could be a bit spoiled....having personally revelled in seeing the boys bag 7 premierships.

Oh the joy of watching the likes of the Dominator, Jezza, Harmes, Buckley, McKay (both of them), SOS, Kouta, Sticks, Bradley, Williams, Fitzy, Buzz, Hunter, Sexton, Ang, Southby launching that huge torp from the kick out, the Ashy torp from 60 out, the unflappable Doull (well, almost), Dean, Fraser Brown, Fev (good Fev ofcourse), Lappin, Lance, Maclure, Rhys......i could go on and on.

Maybe i've become a tad cynical, maybe i've become a tad bored with "modern" day footy.

Even if we had beaten that most hated (and i WAS back to my most vocal best in the last qtr...right Blue Bern?? ), i would have walked away wrapped that we beat the bastards, but knowing there was something missing.... the pure enjoyment of watching the way we play our football. We just don't play good footy.

I haven't seen much improvement at all over the past two and a bit years and it's sooooooo disappointing. Went into the 2010 season with high hopes, they were crushed with an insipid second half of the season. So this year decided to keep a lid on it well and truely.

To me it's such a mess out there and to be honest my confience in them is shot.

I just wish our boys would do somethng to excite me and the rest of you again......really excite us again.....to the point where watching the replay of the game was an absolute MUST!

When was the last time you did that???

I don't have any solutions, but i have a slightly sickening feeling that we are getting left behind, on and off the field.

The time is well overdue for us to be Carlton again.

End of rant....go Blues!!

Apparently it's OK to start your biggest home and away game in years like that. Not score a goal for 40 mins despite the fact that the opposition have had their momentum halted twice and are coming off a two day lesser break. As long as when they're two players down we can scrape a draw in, that's fine........apparently.

Fairly sure Robbo went to him at the opening bounce, and moved off him back into the midfield in the second quarter, where I thought he was pretty good at getting us back into the game.

They only kicked 3 also. Could have easily been 6-7 goals down at the first change.

Stop being so negative. It will all work out in the end. If we win 13 of the next 18, top 4 here we come.
BTW....Kruezer's return will apparently fix everything

Nope, never noticed. You must be imagining things

What are you talking about, the media love us.

We do nothing to help ourselves.

Essendon* and Collingwood are media sluts, but you have to be if you want them on our side. And we should, as they help drive interest and thus memberships.

The media like to pretend we don't exist. I imagine this is because we have been very well behaved since Fev left, and our on field performance has been solid overall especially when you take into account Fev's departure, so they have no real reason to stick the knives in.

If we won every single game for the rest of the year the wins against cellar dwellers would have us labelled "flat track bullies" and the wins against higher/similar sides would all be "lucky wins as X team was having an off day".

I think in general modern footy is not as exciting to watch as the old days. Low scoring defensive-based games with stoppages galore are as exciting to watch as rugby. I think we have always been an offensive club at heart with big forwards like Fev, Lance and Sticks piling on the goals.

I agree too - feel the same bloody way about our cricket team these days too (apart from Watson!)

To Kamerman, SurreyBlue and Bunks.

Got some bad news guys : it's just age.
Nothing's ever quite as exciting as it was when you're young.
It's not all bad though. There's joy there to be had if you look for it.

He went to him ruffed him up for a second before the bounce then went to heppel. Fletcher was bog for them
and robbo should of done the same job as he did last year.

Yep and Lyon starting now. A good team would've won that game with the Bombers as wounded as they were.

You don't think he's right...?

Any chance for gary lyon to dig the heels into Carlton, he'll take it. You've got to ignore that egomanicac

I thin the coach has hinted at that. But I think 3/4 of the above is about right.

Just watched the game for the first time.

1st QTR
*Garlett very gettable shot on goal and doesn't even make the distance. Early on before he has spent any energy...shot came from excellent rebound from Yarran.
*Defence excellent early on, especially Duigan. In one on ones but also rebounding.
*Hampson in a one on one marking contest inside 50 but Henderson comes over the top and spoils - this is a common theme throughout the entire match, not just in attack.
*Waite kicks to Henderson who was against Heppell...got his hands to it but dropped the mark.
*If we didn't mark the ball inside 50 Essendon* were able to rebound very easily.
*White against Hurley 1 on 1, we had time to flood back but still able to give Hurley every chance; he goes on to mark. Fortunately he misses.
*Gibbs kicks inside 50 and Waite drops a sitter
*Waite kicks inside 50 and Hooker is sitting 10m in front of Henderson, marks easily. Common theme....key forwards playing from behind.
*Another poor entry inside 50, once again Hooker marks under little pressure.
*Monfries Vs Duigan and Duigan wins again. Excellent first quarter from Duigan.
*We move the ball well from a kickout but lose possession because Waite is trying to mark from behind once more.
*Curnow has the ball at HB/wing - kicks down the line to a 2 on 1, Fletcher is the loose man sitting in front and marks uncontested. Fletcher switches the ball to the other flank, easy ball movement inside 50 and Bellchambers goals. All because of Curnow’s decision to kick straight down the line to Fletcher. Worst player in the game to kick the ball to.
*Winderlich ACL – McBurney imbecile pays no free kick to Collins even though there was a clear push there. Terrible decision.
*Judd little influence.
*When Fletcher has the ball loose in defence he’s under little pressure.
*Carrazzo delivers inside 50 and to a 2 on 1 – Hooker once again marks uncontested.
*When Essendon* move the ball inside 50 it’s always to a 1 on 1. Defence doing well considering.
*Gibbs kicks to Waite who tries to take MOTY – playing from behind – rebound to Lonergan who goals.
*Simpson shallow entry inside 50 to the fat side – Henderson playing from behind again but does well to bring the ball to ground.
*One on one Crameri Vs JR, Crameri wins easily (common theme for the day).
*Henderson one on one Vs Fletcher does well to bring it to ground (this time playing in front)
*Carrazzo good kick inside 50 to Garlett who should have marked – tries to take it one handed. The kick from Carrazzo was weight perfectly but Garlett fails to mark. Garlett could easily have kicked two in the first quarter.
*Curnow excellent clearance, gives to Garlett who once again kicks straight to Hooker. Ball movement inside 50 is a shambles. Fletcher allowed to play his own game.
*Clear free against Monfries for jumping into Laidler not paid.

Problem in the first quarter was our key forwards continually trying to mark from behind, our midfielders kicking to 2 on 1 situations and our small forwards applying very little defensive pressure. 2 out of the 3 Essendon* goals came about due to rebound from our forward 50. Jarrad Waite’s lairising and Henderson’s inability to get front position really hurting. Our defence has done well considering Essendon* forward’s have mostly had 1 on 1 situations.
