Why imagine, it was reality only the difference being he was carrying a group of fringe players at Carlton.

Juddy took the hits for Murphy. Juddy was the only one going in for the ball.

Yep, I remember his first year.

We despair when we've seen Juddy get bashed from pillar to post forr the last 3 years but forget that Murph was abandoned to his fate (skill and courage) during that first year.

..not so much his 1st season, more his 2nd.. ..stevens went down, murph played the entire season getting heavily tagged and crunched under every stoppage.. ..carrots was left to run free, simpson was still a light winger and snots had to mop up across hbf.. ..murph and krooz have had to give so much so soon for us its not funny..

Well if Paul Connors wanted an increase in speculation he's got it now. 3AW discussed it today and you can be sure all the footy talk shows on telly this week will speculate.

I didnt hear it , what did they say?
Makes no sense to me that Murphy wants to leave it so he can concentrate on footy. Now it is in the papers, heard it over the radio news bulletin and apparently brought up on radio today.
Now, it will be continually brought up and he has created speculation they will become a distraction to not only Murphy but to the club and his teammates.
The attitude of some players in regards to contract is puzzling. Most say it is good to get it out of he way, such as Jamo yet others let it drag on in the hope of getting a few more dollars.
Footy is a team game and i dont like the selfish attitude of some.

my take on what i heard - on the Sunday morning show - it was Murph being smart and self assured.

he implies he wants to stay, but time will tell. waiting for the season to unfold suggests he is prepared to let his playing do the negotiating.

ballsy move - one of intent. based on his form ytd, the ball is in his court and good luck to him earning the money he deserves - hopefully at the blues. at this moment, he is clearly our second best player.

Waiting for a coach change perhaps?

What makes you think this?

Do you have any inside information, or a link to an interview where Murph expresses this opinion?

Or is this baseless speculation?

Considering the club has repeatedly clearly stated that Ratts will be judged on winning a final, and Murphy has stated that contract negotiations will occur mid season; the two timelines don't align. Your theory doesn't add up.

True but this thread is very reminiscent of a bunch of school girls crying over unrequited love.

I dont see any crying, just speculation. FWIW, I suspected until recently that Murphy was staying but after recent comments, I suspect he's been nibbled by GWS. Personally, I'm not losing any sleep over it. If he stays, I'm glad to have him. If he goes, it's his loss, not ours.
He'll be remembered as a mercenary who missed a premiership for the dollar.

I have the same feeling as you, i suspect that GWS have offered him big money and now he is unsure of what to do. He is going to look really bad if he does go as he came out in February and stated that he would be staying and hoping to have the contract done soon.
The club must be cheesed off about this, there are many players out of contract that i am sure they would like to get re-signed and this not knowing how much salary cap space makes it hard to get this done. Walker will be an interesting one after last year wanting to be traded.
I am really disappointed with Murphy, i know he is just looking after himself. Wish he was like Kreuzer who's contract was done in a couple of weeks.
Hate the way our game is heading now, going to get worse when free agency comes in.

Given he is out of contract, and in good form, and at the cusp of peak playing age, I would imagine he has more interest, formal or informal, than just from GWS. I'd say there's about 16 other clubs sussing out his interest.

Murphy is in career best form and has another 6 months before he needs to sign a contract. Throw in GWS, and it's fair to say that he'd be foolish to look anything but reluctant to sign at this point in proceedings. He holds all the aces.

Footy Classified just brought up Murphy. Hutchy said talks have never really got going and they are not on the same page. He said GWS are into him as are several other clubs and mentioned Essendon*.
He is holding out for more money and his current form would almost have him in All Australian selection.
FWIW Caro says she thinks he will stay.
He is clearly our second best player and i just wish the club recognise this and pay him what he is worth.

There is a very fine line between paying the kid what he's worth and paying overs! which if done incorrectly can set a club back a long way, ala brisbane/fev
