Would it be fair to assume we can expect similar results in 2014 as the new recruits will also need time under Mick to get it right before we're ready?

I think Mick will probably target players who can fit straight in and are suitable to his style.

I'd really have a go at getting Scott Selwood.

Davies would be first on my list, followed by Joseph.

He probably did say Davies. He said them quickly.

Hmmmm interesting, I would thought Duigan would get another year, but I guess he hasn't had much of a go this year..... :sly:

Would be harsh on Duigan, given his heroics last week and the leadership abilities Mick's always praising.

Perhaps a development coaching role might be in the wings?

I thought he's been pretty good the last few weeks, and added some much-needed toughness. Certainly hasn't disgraced himself since he's been brought back in IMO.

Unfortunately, like a few of his mates.

Played most of the year in the VFL for a reason.

There is a lot of discussion now that our season is effectively over on the list for 2013.

Along with the coach I believe that this is the MOST vital issue to address.

IMO we have some real talent on our list. We have some match winners and some class.

My issue is the depth and injuries have really shown us up in the area. However, I also believe we aren't far off and as such this years trade period will be absolutely crucial.

This is what I would be looking at:

1. Put the three ruckman on the market and hope to get a really great offer on one. e.g. Hampson to GC for Caddy or Warnock to GWS for Greene?

2. Really cut our list of average players in the system for a while. Bower, Russell, Thornton, White, Kerr, Heyne, Carter etc.

3. Free agency is now in. Can we get a big bodied mid to help us NOW!

4. Trades. We don't have much apart from the ruckman as detailed above or an early pick. Can we get some good young talent to add?

5. Should be a strong draft. 3-4 good kids added to the list. Please do not go with the speculative third rounder again. I like Rowe and Duigan but why did we not use a late or rookie pick? Poor IMO.

6. Mature aged. Now becoming more vital. Is there a Barlow, Magner, Zorko out there? Im sure there is.

This October/November could well determine a top 4 spot in 2013.

*Above was my original post to start this topic in July 2012. Not much has changed??? :?

As MM said we need more midfield depth. Duigan for all his heroics last week cannot run through the midfield. So I say gone.

Delist:
Joseph
Davies
Duigan
Mitchell
Mcarthy
Mclean
White
Ellard
O'Keefe
Collins

Retire:
Scotland

Trade if possible:
Laidler
Hampson
Lucas
Yarran
Watson

I think we have the right man at the helm to leave us in better shape and make some hard calls.
If we could get thomas, adams, selwood and shuey then we will be better next year.
We also must Rookie Kane Lambert and try and get Mitch Hallahan
I think we will be big players in the trade period.
Interesting times ahead.

listening to Mick last night we should expect a significant turnover in favour of midfield runners

We are now suffering because of 3-4 years of not making the tough decisions & poor recruiting.

I honestly don't know how we will do it but we need to get as many of:

Adams, Selwood, Shuey, Hallihan, Thomas etc and as many picks inside top 20 as possible.

It's a bit of a long shot but we have to start somewhere.
