I get it would suck for Dean, but pick 2 is a lot of capital for us to give up.

9 and 11 disappear and we move back on our third pick.

If we match it, he better be bloody good.

I'd be furious at the Eagles for pulling that stunt and I don't think they will. But I'd be madder at Carlton for matching it. Again...not a KPD.

If WC do bid on Dean at no.2, then I seriously hope us and every other team have long memories and it comes back at them at some point.

How cauilflowery would that be to use a massive free agent overcompensation to shit on the list managers' code. I almost want them to do it so I can have someone to hate more than... well, you know.

Before we get too hot under the collar Twomey yesterday said it was very unlikely that eagles would bid on Dean at 2
What message are they sending to either DUFF TYLER or Dursma both from states other than WA if they do that we don’t think you are pick 1 or 2 we would prefer this other guy and your actually our third choice
I get they may be being bastards but still think given the composition of their list that a Backman
isn’t what they need
Of course we should get Dean wherever he is bid on best defender in draft and been part of our academy for years and if we are trying to get a cultural reset these decisions matter

Another year for Flynn Young. Let's see what he can do with an AFL pre-season under his belt.

Prefer Young over Binns. Good to see the club being ruthless with list spots.

From a footballing perspective I'm happy with both decisions. Just wondering what are the legalities of delisting one contracted player while offering a deal to an out-of-contract player? Presumably the terms of employment give them some wriggle room, but what exactly? Can you delist a player with 5 years left on his deal, or only in the last 12 months? Do they get paid out the full value of the contract? What about bonuses that may have been achieved if not given the arse?

Think he’ll slide a bit further.

what does that mean for us?

is there anything that shows how that works from a picks point of view?

We effectively have picks #12 and #14 after accounting for academy selections.
If a bid is put on Dean at pick #8 then we would have to use #12 and pick #14 would get pushed back a few places to #17 or #18. Interesting that Twomey has Ison at pick #26 so if this occurs then using only our picks #43 and #54 on him would result in us going into deficit next year.

Based on the new phantom guide from Cal.

1. Duursma
2. Uwland - GCS
3. Duff-Tytler
4. Patterson - GCS
5. Annable - Lions
6. Robey
7. Taylor
8. Dean
9. Sharp
10. Cumming
11. Schubert
12. Grlj
13. Farrow
14. Lindsay
15. Phillipou
16. Greeves
17. Marsh
18. Dovaston (our slide pick as below)
19. Oskar Taylor
20. Hibbins-Hargreaves

26. Ison - 561pts less 10% = 505pts

Pick #8 = 1443pts less 10% = 1229pts
Picks #12 & #14 = 2164pts
Balance = 865pts (pick #18 - 836pts)

Remaining picks
Pick #43 184pts
Pick #54 14pts
Pick #67 0pts

These picks should be worth more by the time they are to be used as it is predicted that only 44-57 players will be drafted this year.
The issue is we will need to use them a lot earlier if Ison is bid on at #26.
I assume the club will be ready for live trading of these or future picks.

Edit:
Gold Coast will use a few early picks to get their player.
Brisbane will have to use a few picks also.
Our points will increase on those later picks because of this.

Our points will increase on those later picks because of this.

Unless we cut the list down, we won’t have the later picks. Four list spots, four picks.

Very difficult to game out the final value of #43 & #54.

In the above scenario…

Bid 1: Gold Coast surrender picks 15, 18 & 24 to match the bid on Uwland, with pick #43 in the new order left over. Their remaining picks are #29, #30, #37, #43, #51, plus two picks at the very end of the order.

Carlton’s picks at this point will be #10, #12, #41 & #53.

Bid 2: Gold Coast need 1,766 points. They surrender the above five picks & they’re still 295 points short.

The new points table has them in a significant pickle. They could trade, but they went & sunk their best assets into Petracca. It’s possible that they let Patterson go to secure Addinsall, Murray & Coulson.

you just copy and paste the he url of the interview. if you wanna you can put the url inside there url tag this forum generates when you click on the url button but it’s not necessary. that’s just a means of associating the url with some linking text.

eg Google or http://www.google.com
