He's fed stuff from other journos. Someone like Robbo will give him some intel that Robbo isn't prepared to run with yet. Best it's shared from someone in the team before a rival gets the scoop. If it's wrong it doesn't matter - because 'it's only young Tom who was told something and went with it' and if the source gets it right then Tom gets some kudos - but he's forming his own network and provided he doesn't fall into the trap of making shit up like the other Tom, then he'll go ok. I like that little segment. It's a throwback to the Scot 'keep punching' Palmer days.

Tom cut his teeth as St.Kilda's media guy. It's a job that looks great, but it's largely thankless, long hours and not great pay. To his credit, Tom is way too polished for a gig like that, but it's a bloody good grounding for a journo and he has a better understanding of club culture and the way AFL clubs operate than many others...which is also what the other Tom doesn't quite get.

Personally I'd rather we win heaps of games between now and the end of the season and Teague walks it in.

But ... a lot of TCers seem to be really down on Brad Scott for some reason.

Anyone care to elaborate for me what it is about him that they particularly don't like?

I suspect it's the FIGJAM attitude he has. The thing is, I think the AFL like the Scott's and with him at the helm there has been talk already of us getting better time slots, which means more revenue.

The coaching gig is not all what it seems...there are few other things at play.

10 year coach without a premiership. What is he going to change in his own coaching to first, make a grand final and second, to win it? Win loss record is fine, but that’s not what I want. If he is interviewed and someone asks him, you didn’t make it all the way, why? What will his response be? Players? Injuries? List Management? What did he do wrong and what will he need to change to take this list further?

I will admit I probably only watched 1-2 games of North a year that didn’t involve Carlton. But I never thought to myself though, wow, Scott is onto something here.

The instruction to take the game on and play on quickly was flawed. By all means free up the players mentally but if we want to play quickly all the time, we'll come in for some serious damage.
We were already one of the top 3 teams for playing on and that helped us to the bottom of the ladder.

IMHO, it was the players that adjusted and that adjustment allowed us to get back into the game.
Credit to him that the forward line appeared to function a bit better and our midfield rotations were better managed. The tempo we played after quarter time was better suited to our list composition.
It's important we focus on what is successful for us. I'm not suggesting we go back to Boltons full system control but we also cant just let the players go out there and do their own thing. The overpossessing of the footy early was killing us.

I dunno about that.

A young group correctly adjusting in-game their style of play/tempo suggests to me a good and positive mindset. That is a result of a good week on the track thanks to the coaches. Let's not forget that footy these days is 90% above the shoulders.

This is exactly what we want.

I agree.
Good work from the playing group. Adjusting because the coaches instructions are turning to shit. Not so good.
Just my opinion.
Mind you, I'm hoping like hell Teague is a gun coach and he gets the gig. My first impressions? Slightly underwhelming.
He talked it up beautifully but the execution wasn't so good but it's only 1 day. There's another 10 games to show his stuff.
Here's hoping

Never going to get a flag with that list. Did damn well to get 2 PFs. A club must think a real lot of you to keep you for 10 years. You don't stay that long if you're not any good. Think we all know that.

North's issues was thinking the list was better than it was after 2 PFs. They topped up trying to take the next step that wasn't there. Fact was they had to work very hard to get what they did. They were always a 7th-10th side even after topping up.

List not good enough. Same could have been said about the Tigers, Bulldogs and West Coast before each went on to win.

Yes, so? North's list was never good enough. Dogs list wasn't but that was an outstanding coaching and player effort that September from the EF. You'll see that once every 30 years if that. Scott did make 2 PFs from the EF. Richmond were on the way up. Had the bad year but were finalists the 3 years before. West Coast were always good enough. they were in a GF just a couple of years before.

Bottom line, 10 years at a club and that club must really think you are doing the job. no ifs or buts there. No-one, and I mean no-one keeps you for 10 years otherwise.

The win loss record shows he is a solid coach. But ten years of solid in AFL isn’t the aim. It’s not like they had a hard luck story of missing by a whisker in a PF or anything.

What will be the ingredient he brings to Carlton to change that? Maybe someone else who has seen a lot of North play can say. Is it being a great tactician? Is it player communication skills? Is it driving youth to excel?

Is corporate dollars, sponsorship and memberships that comes with be a finals team year in year out?
