Kennedy, Waite, Garlett, Eddie, Hendo, Menzel and GOY kicker Yarran.

Amazing really. You'd be struggling to find a team in AFL history who's done that.

I don't care if you have 18 All-Australian players (as selected by the voting panel of Luke Darcy and Kevin Bartlett) out of your team...there is no excuse for only kicking four goals in a match. Who did they have on the forward line? Gomer Pyle?

These pre-season matches really are not positive experiences. They should just have internal trial matches, and no matches against other teams. I would prefer going into a season with fake optimism than knowing another year of disaster waits. I know these matches are about blooding young players etc...and the best 10 players were out, but even still...kick more than 4 goals please.

Maybe Zach Tuohy needs a stint in the forward line. Rob Peter to pay Paul.

But Tappy......we won 2 pre season flags under Pago. That gave us plenty of fake optimism, and doesn't that make it worse when we crash ? Bolton is doing the right thing. Our biggest challenge this year will definitely be kicking a score though.

Yeah, fair points MIL.

I guess it is sad to say that one of the 3-4 highlight matches for me over the last 10 years was that pre-season final....the 2005 one against Brisbane...Fev was on fire...the Blues won some silverware in between some pretty woeful seasons.

The win over Richmond in the finals was better, but that 2005 pre-season match I remember at the time really enjoying. Now it doesn't seem that impressive, but at the time it was good.

Yeah, a forward or two would be handy.

Had a tear in my eye. To think of what we are missing and more importantly losing ($$$$) when playing non Vic teams.

As for the game. Serious concern re: disposal and forward entries but.....as others have said plenty of positives., only praccy and we have a host 'keys' to come back in compared to the druggies!!! We will smash them come the real stuff - proviso the umpires make an effort to not keep looking after these cheats.

Smashed out of the middle with a second string midfield. No surprise.
The kids were exciting.
Put Cripps, Murphy, Gibbs, Kerridge, Thomas, Kruezer back in the middle and we'll get far more quality ball inside 50. It will take significant pressure off the backline as well. It also makes it much easier to implement a quality press like we had early last week.
Disappointing result but its far too early to lose faith.

Did we allocate a full bay to bomber fans in the Gardiner stand?

We played messy footy today. I'm hoping BB will be able to improve the performances of many of the fringe players who were poor. Young draftees give hope.

Noticed a few players pulled out of contestson occasions. Not a good look.

It was by far the most inexperienced team Carlton has ever fielded. We had 6 players who havent played a senior game yet (7 if you don't count Byrnes 1 qtr against the Scum last year), Prob add another 5-6 with no more than 10 games exp as well. Appart from a shocking 2nd qtr, we held up alright considering..
Add Gibbs, Kruezer, Kerridge Murphy, Cripps, Walker White Thomas Wright and it d be a totally different story.
But all you ll hear from the Scum loving media is good news stories about how great the Bombers were, barely mentioning we were fielding virtually a Nthrn Blues side against them.

The disappointing part about the immature display is that it wasn't the first and second year players that were lacking maturity and stoicism under pressure, it was Rowe, Whiley, Lamb, Phillips and Tutt.

The forwards had nothing to work with for almost 3 quarters of the game because they either couldn't lead the way in connecting HB to HF, or they just generally made terrible decisions with and without the football.

Workloads or not, there were plenty of low-pressure moments they blundered due to a lack of simple concentration.

Captain Simpson kicking out on the full from a kick out set the example.

Or trying to kick a boomerang as a pass and turning it over because he refused or wasn't able to use his right foot....

The most frustrating thing of all is that we could have conceivably had Brown, Grimley, McKernan, Nyoun and Caleb Daniel all for the low, low price of - in order - Rowe, Gorringe, Tutt, JGM and Jones.

And I say that based on 3 years of form in the case of the first three, not that scrubby practice match.

Best bit was the three quarter time siren. McKay ruffles some feathers. Silvagni weighs in. Charlie Curnow makes his presence felt.

You can forgive a couple of incidents: Rowe, Lamb, Whiley and Phillips combined for 21 clangers from 32 disposals and 15 free kick incidents (4-11 against)

Must of spent time as a construction worker or on building sites. Every time he gets the ball (which is quite a bit ) he fills out his "Take 5" or stop and think.
Come on down Diesel and teach this bloke first thought and first option is usually the best

Great to be back on my old stomping ground in Princes Park.
Took 30 minutes to find a car park and then had to walk a fair way to the ground.
Terrible skills and our non existent forward line is a worry.
Weitering will play round 1 and C Curnow might too.
I know most of our midfield was missing so getting beaten in the middle was to be expected.
It is going to be a long year, we all know that.
Graham looked good and hopefully he can stay injury free.
Despite the scoreline, had a good day and it brought back many good memories.

You can't teach that stuff. You can get fitter, learn a game plan, get stronger......but you can't teach instinct. Young SOS has the goods, you could see it right away. Whiley ain't got it and never will. It's starting to look like all the GWS discards are just that.....discards. And we've got plenty of them :-(

Not reading too much into the loss considering A) It's a practise match and B) we were without Cripps, Murph, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Walker etc etc.

However, regardless of all that - Liam Jones is just a giant spud..... Possibly the worst player ever to wear the navy blue.
