Even Barassi took four years....it's round 21.
The players who helped us last year are way down on output, Judd, Murphy, Carrazzo, Betts, and B&F Scotland.
That's the best of out list right there, I'd say we have practically overachieved.

The sooner you join us and accept the fact that MM should have won 3 successive flags by round 3 this year the better. Anything less is letting him off the hook

It's about the cattle.
Without the cattle you aint herding anything.

I don't know about Cyril, and 20 of him, but Ive given it a bit of thought and I think his brilliance times 20 is greater than having the stamina, or lack of times 20. I'd have 4 of them as interchange/ sub allowing me to have Bruce Doull, Wayne Johnston, Stephen Kernahan, Alex Jesaulenko, Brent Crosswell, Greg Williams, Gary Ablett Snr and jnr, Juddy,,,,come to think of it, I think I couldnt do with 20 Riolis in a GF...cant fit them in TBH.

I would wet my pants if we found another Bruce Doull.

Did he ever have children? I bet his daughter would play with more of an edge and run harder than Marc 'too pretty' Murphy.

Redback,

I don't think you understood what I wrote. It will take until Malthouse 4th year to get us challenging for a top 4 side. That is 2016 and beyond and even that would be a mighty effort with this list = 3 drafts (2013, 2014, 2015). I don't expect us to make the 8 next year.

Ratten inherited a wooden spooner and took them to the finals within 2 years
16>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>8
Malthouse inherited a 10th team so in (two years) the same games as Ratten should take them top 4
10>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4
Going by time frame with inherited lists with leeway
Same games coached.

You've got to be joking. That's Essendon** supporter-level logic

I agree but the logic is inherited by the fact that you are calling for Micky to rebuild.

Ratten did from bottom with just Judd.

Malthouse takes a team just out of the eight and with three mature #1’s and Daisy, Watts and whatever other FA.
Better coach better positioned players..............easy for a gun coach

Maybe what he needs to turn over are his assistants

He’s running low on ideas

Some of the comments here are hilarious.

redback in particular - can you tell us in what way we've improved the list?

If you think building a list involves just drafting players in then that's completely wrong. It's all well and good bringing players in and saying "right now we got the cattle".

Players get into form, they lose form. The Judd of 2008-2011 when we made finals is no longer the Judd of 2013. Ditto Murphy, ditto Scotland etc. Other clubs get better. Our 2nd tier players haven't gotten better. The taste in our cake drops off very quickly after the top layer.

It also shows an endemic issue raised by many TCers over the years: a lack of proper development. It could also be argued we haven't drafted players open to and/or capable of development as well.

Those who think Malthouse has failed have given in to that old Carlton bugbear - the instant panacea of the Messiah complex.

If you really need a laugh have a look at our game plan and why our top tier players have dropped off.
How are they used compared to our fringe player and realize why they haven't made an impact.

The point about FA is for the deluded micky supporters who think that by getting a couple of average players that will fix our deficiencies and show us what a great coach micky is but I’m glad you got that.

If he doesn’t change his game plan and place our best players in positions that they will be at their most damaging then we are always going to struggle.

I think its all about fitness. Mick has really pushed the defensive running side and we arent up to it. Why because ratten didnt demand it. Thus the previous 5 preseasons under ratten were not enough base for mick to launch from. Our list is like a bunch of young players again all trying to adjust to the rigours if the new defensive running.
Ratten produced a bunch of front running, downhill skiing show ponies. He as challenged them and some have been found wanting.

Added to this we have had confidence sapping facial injuries to simpson ,betts and murphy. Carazzo has had a bad year with injured calves, waite nuff said. Judd and scotland have started their physical decline.

It all adds up to a list that has declined rather than improved this year. But next year they will be fitter, more confident, and the leaders raring to go

Belittle the man all you like but I think an ex-premiership coach, captain and legend of our club and game might know a little more about football and our club than some keyboard warrior in here!

Carlton champion ... tells it like it is ... some honesty at last

Great to see people face up to the fact that the CFC has stuffed up badly ... and that they don't fall for the rhetoric and PR that camouflages this sham.

Its so clear that the Carlton football team has been totally mismanaged this year and even worse ... there is going to be much more damage given that MM has 2 more years on his contract.

Batten down the hatches ... its going to be a long road back.

I am repeating what he said earlier in the year, is that fine by you or not. Glad to see we have something in common, fellow keyboard warrior.

Yes he tells it as he believes it is... problem is it's different to the last time he told us how it is...

Carlton champ - yes... journo/media writer - hack

He is bitter and twisted that ratts got the sack coz he was a fan and mentor to him.
Walls hates MM that is fact.

This.

Love listening to Wallsy ramble about the old days, but his media analysis has not been much chop for the last couple of years.

He is retiring at the right time.

According to some Malthouse despite winning a flag in 2010 is archaic and yesterday's news, yet Walls is a doyen because of 1987?...

Surrey how is anyone criticising Walls any different to you criticising Mick, or anyone else for that matter?...

Don't try and argue.

Malthouse is the Axis of Evil, and he heralds the coming of the apocalypse.
