Very confusing, at one stage a player had his head over the ball but hit his opponent below the knee with his head and got pinged. It would appear that now below the knee is more important than the head.
Anyone else think that Casboult might be in trouble for his crunching hit on the GWS player?

No. It should have been Casboult's free kick from what I could tell. Wasn't in the back, wasn't high, the player in possession didn't dispose of the ball correctly. The fact it was bone crunching must have caught the umpire by surprise. One of the Flog commentators did mention that they don't think Casboult would be player for the rest of the month, but then didn't mention it again.

That is the worst rule going around, :banghead: :banghead: Please tell me it is only for the NAB Cup and not for the season proper

I could be wrong but i think it is in for good.

Casboult was playing the ball, no worries there.

The new rule is stupid.

Was anyone watching on the iPad afl app? And if so, did you have any trouble??

Downloaded the app... paid the $15 for the month and outside of a couple interruptions (see above), it was very smooth.

Paid for the "Hammer clunks it" and "2011 Jamo" add ons, which worked a treat....

No complaints. Go Blues

Went to the game. Had a great family Day in a Family Area for the first time.
Crowd was average in size, so the Carltonians stood out all decked out in plenty of Carlton gear. Made me smile.
Watched the replay of both games. Terribly hopeless commentary. Can't get worse. Pure self indulgence.

GWS did play well rather than us guys playing badly. They run and link well. Smart. Good hands. Good skills.
We didn't hurt them on the scoreboard and that's going to happen every time we miss shots at goal.
Most players in the NAB are a bit rusty. The big guys were standouts: Hampson, Casboult, Rowe and Jamison.
White looked strong, and so did Henderson. They didn't stand out. Watson showed a will to run hard forward. Fumbled a bit.
Loved Tex but he was a bit selfish and wasteful. Had time to do better. The whole team can use the talk a bit better.
Laids had a bad day in the office.

I love the hardness at the contest. The bodies are bigger this year.
A lot of long kicks. Wasteful at times...too many times.
Small guys fumbled too, except Betts. He's a star.

We do have some pace but players like Brock and Ellard need to hurt the opposition in other ways.
Really enjoyed Garletts defensive, never say die efforts. Didn't see that on the replay.
Robbo is Robbo he gets to the contest, has toughness, but also has a bit of class along with his x factor. He'll get better.

Very humid out there today. Very humid. O'Keefe either struggled with the heat or he's just had a bad day.
He needed the rotations. Lucas looks fast, and did well in the first half of the first game, but like OKeefe I can't see them in the top 30 for 2013. Curnow tried hard too

Whilst Gibbs and Yazz featured with many possessions I thought Yazz was lazy at times walking to position or positioning for the next contest. I thought Gibbsy was a bit slow in mind today too. Not bad both of them, but what I saw disappointed me at times...too many times. Tuohy has size but didn't think through the situations well enough today.

Really loved Bell. His use of the body is invaluable. Liked Brocks toughness too, but Bell is tougher and faster and he's in my first 25. Love him. Love what Army brings to the table too. His pace is an assett.

I hope Simpson improves his kicking at goal this year.

The rest didn't make an impression..including Carrots, Murph, Dale, Graham etc

I reckon we did all right, and we'll have a great 2013....Still have Waite, Kreuzer, Judd, Warnock and Scotland to add to that bunch.

Well done to ALL the Carlton supporters who came out today in Carlton gear.
A really good Carlton Day for me....no injuries and 2 wins...my kids loved it!!

Just finished watching the replay. Very lucky to get away with the win against GWS, although we were hitting out straps late in the game. Then coming out strong against the Swans was enjoyable to watch.

Biggest positives for me were Sam Rowe and Levi Casboult.

against GWS:
positives:
Rowe, Hammer, Casboult, Bell, Ellard, Robbo, Joseph and Gibbs. Really great to see Gibbs winning contested ball, and tackling and shepherding. Didn’t see his class all that much, but no doubt that’ll come in time as he gets the balance right.
Nice to see our goals coming from talls.

disappointments:
Watson, O’Keeffe, White and Lucas. Would’ve liked to see more impact from these guys.
Hendo, Yarran, Walker and Laidler. No doubt they’ll all get better as the games go on.
Garlett and Curnow.
Goalkicking. Again.
I reckon MC would have been pretty disappointed with our defensive structure. The opposition seemed to find a lot more space up forward than we did. And kicked their goals relatively easily.

against Sydney:
positives:
Jamo, Betts, Armfield and Carrazzo all made a significant difference.
Lucas looked much better when played behind the ball. It’s the role he’s best designed for. Plays tall. Fantastic pace. Doesn’t have to think too much.
McLean.
Rowe, Hammer, Casboult, Bell, Ellard and Gibbs again.
Dale showed a bit.
I thought Walker and Murphy showed a bit more in the 2nd game.

disappointments:
The FOXTEL vision cutting out for about 3 minutes!
Wasn’t a lot of ball in defence, but would have liked to see a little more from Tuohy, Davies and McCarthy.

I was very disappointed in Judd. He just didn't turn up for it today.

Seriously though - I think we just looked a little out of sorts to start with but once a few blokes started gripping the ball better it fell into place.

It was particularly pleasing to see some of the young guys who started coming through late last season - Casboult, Bell & Dale especially - looking hungry for some more action this season. Strength in depth and competition for places are crucial, so it's a big thing to have these hungry types champing at the bit.

Our defence looks 1000000000X better with Jamo out there. If we can keep him on the park we'll have a real tilt at it I reckon.

I am really not sure about Watson. He's got a bit of the Luke Livingstone's about him. He's got plenty of ability but just seems to lack the reaction times of an AFL-level key defender. Time shall tell I guess.

Really happy for Rowey. Really hope he can take the step up for us.

Bell, Lucas & Rowe hopefully in line for selection round one. Lucas breaks the lines. One of the few players to provide effective run and carry, which is needed.
All showed glimpses. Didn't play 3 ruckmen or even 2 ruckmen in a match, which is a huge positive.
2 highlights:
1) Eddie Betts's goal - ran through middle of pack, bang! goal
2) Bell's 70 metre monster goal.

1 lowlight:
Ed Curnow was reactive to the ball. Instead of proactive on wing against GWS. 1st half. Turnover resulted in GWS goal...but there is always room for improvement.

I'm actually impressed with the shape the boys are in. A few players have put in some serious time on the weights room(AJ for one), so hopefully, we won't be treated like rag dolls this season. Noticed a number of times we were a tad late to spoil marks and nearly gave away far too many stupid free kicks as a result. Casboult's cruncher especially comes to mind.

Our forward press looked really tight. Haven't seen it like that since early last year. Good to watch.

Apart from that our players looked confused as to what to do. Hopefully a bit more practice can get moving the ball the way MM wants.
I did notice a few old collingwood type things like when moving the ball forward a lot of passes go to where the 50 arc meets the boundary where there is always space to move to and defenses often sag off to allow the mark . From their our forward swings around quickly and kicks across the forward line into space. Works well.

Well that is an improvement on Fevola & Waite taking those high percentage shots for goal from there.
