It really saddens me how "nasty" the discussions on TC have become. I have met ppl on "both sides " and they are all quality people.
Anyway, this season has convinced me that Ratts won't take the team to a flag, but the coach is only one cog in the machine and without improving other areas we won't achieve no. 17. I fear North are going to close us down on ES and things might go bad again.

Most people are good people Mikkey, some just like stirring the pot, others just like having fun, most just write with raw emotion. Like you say, its funny when you actually get together as a group and meet a few posters, we're all just normal people and can get along fine discussing the same topics.

I agree with this. I'm convinced Ratts and the general football department had been found out the past 2 months, a good run home and finals campaign probably justifies my thoughts personally.

As for North, we did play well to beat them last year, tough hard fought game. This year they are stronger through the midfield and will be a huge challenge for Ratts to come up with a game plan to combat there running game and get a result. We'll learn a lot more about Ratts coaching capabilities this week than the Collingwood game IMO.

Amazing win. Really looking forward to watching it. :smile:

So why can we do this tonight but not for the last couple of months?

No major ins and a couple of players down during the game.

I've read through a couple of threads but other than playing one less ruck an, moving Duigan forward and increasing the intensity what happened that was different?

Anyone?

I think it is a combination of a few things, they did get ahead of themselves after the first Collingwood game (Carrots pretty much admitted that in his post game interview) and I think that caused a loss of confidence in the players which was a hard hole to get out of, injuries to key players (I don't care what anyone says our injuries hurt us and showed that we lack ready made depth) and finally the competition is very even this year, you only have to look at some of the surprise results to see that the gap between most teams is not great.

North next week will be interesting.

Well, well, well. I hoped we would perform like that but was worried we would get smashed.

Absolutely rapt with all and sundry tonight. So happy and proud of the boys.

The challenge now is to bring this intensity to every match for the rest of the season. No excuses.

Ps. Anybody else just about smash their tv's in the third when we almost kicked ourselves out of it? :razz:

Yep the anxiety got pretty high in the 3rd and the missus kept telling me to shut up and that we were home the final siren was a beautiful sound.

I'll say a few things that have probably already been said, but really CBFed trawling through 16 pages.
1. Keep Walker Forward;
2. Play Kruez as primary ruck;
3. Yarran always at CHB. If he gets dragged back to the opposition goal by opposition players, let him know he has a license to stay put;
4. Jamo always on the gorillas
5. Watto on the opposition backup gorilla.

It's not personal. And it's never about just one man. You were probably under another guise defending Pagan 5 years ago. It was great to win tonight. I'm deeply offended that anyone questions my support of Carlton - particularly when we're playing Collingwood - but to not recognise there are serious problems is just plan naive. We're not fighting it out for 8th spot because injuries have crueled us...the wheels started to fall off the game plan and the message long before that. Why were the KPI's hit tonight? No one has an answer.

Doc I am just an everyday member like most of us and have no serious sports qualifications other than having followed the game for 40 years and played both footy and cricket at a pretty low level, but I feel that confidence is massive in any sport and is very hard to get a handle on particularly in a team sport so I ask if our slump is nothing less sinister than a collective loss of confidence brought on by over confidence after the first Collingwood win & the injuries that we picked up along the way and getting flogged by Essendon*.

I have no doubt that Essendon* & Adelaide played us differently than previous sides, could this have not caused the mental wheels to fall of the players collectively?

Our losing streak had as much to do with scheduling as it did injuries.

We were playing 4 or 5 games in like 18 days.

... meanwhile the bombers were playing 8 games in a row on a saturday night. 7 days to prepare for everything they did. 7 days for recovery. How nice that would be, huh?

That's true. We also had two interstate trips thrown in during that time as well. From May 27 to June 14 we played four games, including two interstate.

Wellingham has been offered and taken a 3 week suspension for his brave attempt at a mark on Kade Simpson.

Wellingham certainly made a mark on Simmo but there was zero attempt to take one.

Lucky to get off so lightly

Robbo's tweet regarding Wellingham's bagging of him was a classic.

I wish I had 3-4 weeks off.. Instead of keeping my eye on the ball, I can finally attend those sledging classes!!
