Murphy on Game Day, just asked about his contract.
Said things are hold at the moment, wanted to start the year off well. Said something about mid year starting up again.
Was asked about if he wants to stay and said very unconvincingly that he did and looked very uncomfortable and blushed. Not as confident about him staying.

its a tough question to answer when you are negotiating the best deal for yourself.

if he was gone id say he would of reiterated that contract talks were on hold until mid season rather than saying "id have thought so" & a muffled "yes"

He was less than convincing in stating his desire to re-sign with us. Matthew Richardson (deliberately) saved him from embarrasment by changing the subject. Thanks, Richo.

I had thought nothing of it before now, but that discussion did nothing to suggest he is signed, sealed and delivered. Whilst I prefer to think he will stay, it suggested that he is weighing up options... It may just be that he is waiting on the rights deal, but his manager might be looking to land himself a retirement package (be it with us or otherwise)

Mm..but if your agent tells you to act unsure, and not say much..so as to worry the club in to giving an excellent renewal contract...then..
surely you try to play along..but come across as very uncomfortable in doing so.
You want to say you love your club..but have to hold your cards close to your chest.

that's how I read it anyway.

I'm sure what he says will be I'd love to sign with the Blues, we're working through the contract details at the moment, we're in no hurry though. My manager may have received offers from rival clubs, but I'm not aware of any of that.

It means absolutely nothing, buts ome of the NN's around here will then come on running round in circles saying they're worried it all means he's signing with GWS.

So he didn't quite say he'd love to sign with the Blues, but I got the rest right?

What Murph said lends weight to what Barrett said on The Footy Show on Thursday night, that talks were on hold at this moment.

If we're still none the wiser by July or August then we can start to worry.

If he's still unsigned in mid October we can begin to worry.

He is in career best form - the fitest he has ever been - why not show the football world just how bloody good you are and get yourself more money sign now for 500 -600 of sign late august for 700-800

He appears in complete control of his destiny

..not sure he's holding out for a heaps more bucks neccessarily.. ..nowadays it's harder to get longer contracts than it is to get the big bucks.. ..maybe he's asking for a little more, but longer terms..

IIRC from the last contract that was signed, his contract was given special attention by the AFL due to Murph's clothing line/stores in Moonee Ponds/Doncaster both feature heavy involvement from Sticks and his printing company?

Could be a much of a muchness there.

All things considered, he's staying.

I thought it had more to do with his contract being fluid in terms of how much he received each year, and was dependant on how much space was in our salary cap each season....so if we had more space in year 1 we could move salary from year 2 across...and that required AFL approval.

Probably a mix of both I guess.

Imagine little Murphy playing in a team full of skinny kids. He would get smashed. Murphy will be nothing for 3 years until these kids have developed.

Ablett is a better player than Murphy but at least he had the flags that will never leave him. Murphy will throw away the chance of winning a premiership if he leaves.

People bag Ablett but he had the runs on the board. We we learn who about who Murphy really is and his character over the next few months.

Why imagine, it was reality only the difference being he was carrying a group of fringe players at Carlton.

Yep, I remember his first year.

We despair when we've seen Juddy get bashed from pillar to post forr the last 3 years but forget that Murph was abandoned to his fate (skill and courage) during that first year.

Well if Paul Connors wanted an increase in speculation he's got it now. 3AW discussed it today and you can be sure all the footy talk shows on telly this week will speculate.
