I can take the scuffling, the wrestling even the punch to the head but NOT the 'kick' when you're down

Flowering low act. He's got to live with it and he'll be reminded about it by the opposition.

Worst part ..... the game only lasted 3 quarters. Hopefully out last quarters won't fizzle out this year.

can i just ask why there was not the same outrage when he punched out ackland a couple of years ago?

From memory most were amused by that particular incident.

its interesting how different people interpret the kick part of the incident.

some see it as contempt for his team mate.

i don't. I simply see it as a final act of pure anger. a final '@#$%&! you' to cloke.

who knows what sparked it. only two people really know at this point, and I'm sure the club will have some pretty extensive discussion with them both.

I heard Fev interviewed on the radio, and he did sound like he wanted Setanta gone.

This incident is unfortunate, but the competitive juices are flowing, and these blokes are hungry.

I will defer judgement to the club and accept whatever sanction they impose regardless of what it is. until then I'll sit on the fence.

I went this morning.

I was told by Carlton it would be two 20 min halves. After 2 halves they all left the ground and a lot of people seemed to leave, including myself. It would have been nice if someone made people aware there was going to be 2 more quarters.

Very disappointed.

As for Setanta, get rid of him.

It should never have happened.

It does happen.

Neither the punches or the kick were too hard.
Setanta has not looked relaxed for over a year and it just seems like he is not ok atm.
There is no way he should be sacked!.... he still has a lot to prove till the end of the season./

The club must do what it can to get his head back to a good place .

This babyish cry to sack Setanta by some absoloute morons in here is laughable.

Setanta has a responsibility to get himself into a situation to gain acceoptance in the locker room
The club has a responsibility to help him get to that position

And the real downside is people focussing on the incident and not the REAL story...

The preformance of Robinson....

... and Murph n Gibbs...

Agreed.

Setanta stuffed up, but I'll be surprised if he's sacked. He'll be on the outer for awhile, he'll have some counselling probably, and he'll be made to work to get himself back in the fold. You never know, this might turn out to be a good thing for Carlos in the long-run. Maybe it'll be the catalyst for change that Carlos and the club needed in they way they approached each other...

And I couldn't believe it tonight when the lead headline on the Channel 9 news update was "Bad day for Carlton" etc and they showed Carlos vs Cloke. If that's the worse thing that happens this year I will be rapt! By the way, I bet Carlos wishes the intra club match had remained a closed session..I'm sure the media would not have gone with it without the camera footage...

That Caroline Ophelia Wilson has finally written her first article for 2009 (that I know of) by starting with this incident.

Her usual sources and conjecture pad out the article.

Still no comment on Cousins, Polak and Ben Holland.

There are more important Carlton issues at hand to write about...

I don't know why Wilson just doesn't write her Carlton articles on BigFooty...

More people might read them if she did.

Fair article by CW.

Good on SOH for calling CC, and good on CC for his response.

Everything's back to normal now. Nice.

I prefer Martin Boulton's article.

Quote:
Blues stalwart and one-time premiership rover Adrian "Gags" Gallagher says the punch-up would have been quickly smoothed over if O'hAilpin had not kicked Cameron Cloke while he was down.

"It's good to see a good Irishman belting a former Collingwood player," Gallagher joked.

If what im told about the incident is true, i support Setanta's actions (as do most of his team mates apparently).

You dont just whack a team mate for NO reason.

Thats all i will say.

I'm a bit confused.

Did Setanta have to front the match review panel for last year's whack on Ackland in our in-house practice match? I don't think he did.

Has any AFL player ever been fined for wrestling their teammates during an in-house practice match? I don't think so.

So why is this all of a sudden going to the panel, and most likely the tribunal? It seems like the AFL's policy on what happens during in-house practice matches is a little bit pregnant. :?

Am I the only one that doesn't see agression whilst playing?
I keep hearing how he is needed for playing on the gorillas, but frankly he doesn't play the big guys any better than our smaller defenders. I think that he talks the talk, but doesn't go anywhere near hard enough for the ball, and even this latest incident was a 30 second wrestle off the ball and clearly had no interest of what was happening down the ground. He should be playing Rugby or Gridiron or any other football that playes the man and not the ball.

I don't think that he should be sack for this incident, however I can't see him being around much longer because he just can't play the game and if everyone took of their rose coloured glasses, they will come up with the same conclusion.

+1

The OVER REACTION by most on here has me thinking that the majority of posters are 12 year olds or people with NO experience of playing the game.

GET OVER IT.

What the @#$%&! is the AFL doing??? It wasn't a match. Its essentially training. I think the AFl should perhaps liase with the club as to what sanctions are imposed upon Setanta, but that is where it should end. The AFL has no jurisdiction here. The club should tell them to get [REDACTED].

:banghead: @#$%&! I hate the AFL

Jon Ralph and Mike Sheahan delivered as expected today. Carlton's pre-season is all but de-railed, all momentum has been lost, the sky is falling.

LOL at Ralph suggesting Setanta and Cloke were vying for the vacant ruck spot. Put your head back in the sand Jon.
