And yet they try to sell the club as 'WE'RE COMING' how about a poster saying 'if it weren't for Richard Pratt and hand outs we'd be going'.

When will the club learn to stand and operate on its own two feet and not be drip fed by its rich supporters. We are fortunate to have these individuals backing our club in and if it not for them we'd be gone and i appreciate there support. But this club has survived by the generosity of wealthy individuals for to long now and in my eyes this is the Carlton of old we going back to especially in a time of need.

The club is adopting this cocky attitude (which lead us to this mess) is asking for its members to dig into there pockets even more in a time when the economic future looks bleak.

'THEY KNOW WE'RE COMING BUT WE NEED MORE OF YOUR MONEY'

You are so wrong on so many levels it actually IS funny.

The club got in 40k+ members last year, sold mountains of merchandise and sponsorship is locked away.

The fact there's a hole to be dug out of doesn't diminish the way the club is being run now.

You're in such a rush to bag the club all you do with every post is show how little idea you have.

I don't think you are a supporter of this club. I think you get a kick out of provoking people and look - it worked again. Well done sport.

OH FOR F'S SAKE!!!

It's a f'ng membership slogan - in the vein of all those silly little throwaway slogans that promise success for the season ahead. Nothing more, nothing less. Every club does them, and more often than not they promise great times ahead "we'll dominate in 2008... Eat 'em alive in 95... etc etc f'n etc" The only difference is, this one's actually pretty good.

You may think the club is still arrogant and dependent on wealthy benefactors, but attempting to draw a link between that and this little membership slogan is just plain weird.

You hate it, and you're the only person I know who does. Maybe it's time to move on...

If it wasnt for John Wren's generous support (funded from his ILLEGAL COLLINGWOOD TOTE ACTIVITIES DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE 20th CENTURY Collingwood would have also disappeared out of existence during the Great Depression.

There are countless other examples of AFL/VFL clubs surviving due to the generous support of rich benefactors.

It can be argued that Australian Rules, the VFL/AFL in general would have fallen over as a viable code without the support of generous benefactors.

Certainly in the early 1980s ALL VFL clubs were technically bankrupt (as is the moral ethics of some posters on this site who pupport to be Carlton supporters) - and if it wasnt for a huge reorganization of the code and its operational structure would have disappeared as a nationally organized game.

Thank our lucky stars we have generous supporters who like Richard Pratt who have supported our club.

But I would like to point out that during the darkest of times at this club 2002 to 2006 - without Richard Pratt's support it was the members joining the club in droves who demonstrated their unwavering support to put their money where there mouth is and kept this club alive.

Thank god we dont have 30,000 members like Melvey because we would have sunk without a trace a long time ago.

Do us all a favour Melvey and do what Don Lane told James Randi to do on National LIVE TELEVISION in 1977!!!!!!!!!

Lighten up Melvey and enjoy your club. You take it far too serious.

The "they know we are coming" stuff is surely just an onfield thing. Nothing to do with our bank balance. Its just a bit of fun to get a few members onboard. Essendon* have countered with their little jibe. Its all good fun. Relax.

Also i think you will find all clubs have wealthy supporters donating money to them. I dont think we are too much different. Sure it took a wealthy guy to stabalize Carlton but right now things are going well.
To ask for an extra $25 bucks of fans is not the end of the world and you would have to be the only person around linking the "you know we're coming" stuff to the "How about an extra 25 skins donation" donations stuff.

Enjoy the club.

We're going to have to come up with a different idea for Melvey, a roots not going to work. He'll struggle to get it up :P

Questions to all Carlton fans:

When you first saw the membership slogan/poster, did it pump you up?

Did it make you excited for next year?

Do you think the slogan alone would give us atleast 1 extra member?

When comparing our slogan to the others out there, don't you feel lucky your a Carlton supporter?

If you answered yes to ANY of the questions above, job done by the CFC marketing department.

It's not about what others think, and it's not about how many games we will win or lose, whether we win the flag or whether Judd is finally going to Richmond as they are in the box seats...this is purely for the Members and Supporters of our club. To renew or to sign up, and this is exactly what this slogan will do.

Infact, out of all the slogans that has ever come out by any club, this is clearly the best

Since you hate the slogan so much Melvey...how high are you gonna put that poster on your wall when you get it signed when you renew your membership?

Actually those things don't excite me unlike for you. I always give my free membership cap or scarf to the kid across the road from us and if i were to receive a SIGNED (wow a signed poster  ) poster i'll do the same.

As you are a man of principle Melvin, don't buy a membership if you think the club are trying to rip you off.

Dude its not about an extra $25 i'll give them $50

My point is that 'THEY KNOW WE'RE COMING' is a joke. This is coming from a club that no one has any respect for other than us one eyed supporters.

Majority of non carlton supporters will tell you even when we win our next flag that it came from dirty money, hand outs, tanking and so on. I know you'll say who cares what other people think well i'll tell ya thats the impression out there in the football world and in the corporate world to.

From what i understand is that if it weren't for Visy we would have struggled to landed another major sponsor. The only reason Optus still onboard as there sponsorship is value for money on there behalf and the club were keen to move them on thinking they could have landed another big fish

Again i reiterate what i said. I have no time for a 40+ year old with warped imagination that her and her Smurph one day in another life will be together, forever until the cows come home

Possibly the 'warped' imagination about Smurph is more yours than mine.

I think you doth protest too much Melvin. :-D

Your drawn to my posts whether you like it or not.

I have the same fascination for tommi's posts too. :-D

Um, forgive me if I am mistaken, but haven't we had this discussion already? Can't we agree to disagree? It's getting very boring.
