That's what makes us great supporters. We love to win, because we are passionate about our club.

Err I dunno about you, but that is the EXACT definition of a tanker :? :P

Big difference between playing to lose (tanking) at round 4, 10 or even 14 (that's what I mean by being a "tanker"), than playing the kids (to check out your list and ensure a loss) in round 20. You have guys on here that have been wanting us to lose since May/June. I'm not one of them. But I will be hoping for a loss next week. In fact if we've gone through the pain of the last 10 weeks for nothing, I'll be furious.

Someone put it really well earlier in the thread (I think Jars). It's a simple cost benefit analysis. Once the benefit of losing exceeds the cost (like in the last few weeks), I can accept it.

It's been happening for the last three years.

Let it happen for another three, we'll be right then. I promise.

Verbs if you want to keep guys like Gibbs and Murphy you need to add players who are at their wave length to help them out..

Remember we are in a truly unique position. No other big powerhouse club has had to go through this sort of punishment and it's going to take strong rezilliant kids to pull us throughit.

There's more pressure on our kids than any kids that have ever come through the afl ranks because of our unique position of where we are at and WHO we are. It's a shit load of pressure, do not underestimate it!

This is why me must have the best availble talent.

And when you have enough leaders like Murph, Gibbs, walker and co, in due coarse guys like Russell lift and become better players........

So if Richmond knock off the Saints next week are we still tanking come Sunday night? Will it be more attractive because we get picks 1 & 2?
Or, will the possibility of our 3rd spoon in a row sway people the other way?

It's in interesting question actually. If Richmond does win next week, what would the pro-tankers (of which I am most definitely one right now) prefer...

Wooden spoon and picks 1 and 2, or 14th and pick 3?

I'm no pro-tanker but I would love to end up with the PP because missing it for the sake of one game would mean a all the more wasted year...

Picks 1 and 2 wiil do although it probably not matter with the Tiggies recruiting history.

I agree, I can live with another spoon if needs be...

My fear (aside that the fact that I'm not sure even we can be bad enough to lose next week) is that if Richmond wins, the mindset of the Club might change, and they decide to win to avoid the spoon.

Go Saints! Which therefore means, Go Pies, as an Adelaide win means St Kilda has nothing to play for. I hate football sometimes.

I wasn't saying they will walk, which is a possibility i guess.

What i was saying was that we have to make sure that we have enough A grade talent to lead the way so that too much aint left to too few.....

A graders handle pressure and expectancy the best, but they are still human..

Kruezer and Cotchin or another spoon?

Tough call but if you have watched Kruezer and Cotchin the past two years, another spoon will somehow not matter in 3 years time when you have a midfield of Kruezer, Gibbs, Murphy & Cotchin. Potentially a foursome that will be the envy of all other teams.

Another spoon might be hard to swallow right now but I'm willing to take it if it means we add Kruezer and Cotchin to Murphy and Gibbs.

Of course it's better to win the flag than not win it but...

Not sure if either spoons or premierships mean as much as they used to.
Until all teams play each other twice, the competition (not the game of Australian Rules Football) is a J.O.K.E.

JOKE

Players busting their guts week in, week out for an unfairly structured competition makes little sense (except for their handsome pay packets).

Very quickly, I am losing my passion for the AFL. If I was an outsider looking in at the competition, and didn't follow Carlton, I would see the whole thing as laughable.

For all the flaws tht the NRL has, at least each team plays each other the same number of times in the H and A season.

This basic condition must be addressed before premierships (and wooden spoons) regain their true value.

In saying all of this, Carlton must get the PP!!!

We should take the AFL to court to win back the lost pp... That way we get picks 1/2 and3....in a weak draft.......

Oh boy, let the mother of all tanks happen at the selection table this week.

A wooden spoon couldn't come at a better time, we have the money to hook a huge fish in the PSD, only problem is the Tigers are in front of us at present. Go Tigers!!!

Not true Bluedog - for example - Sharks only played Knights, Storm, Eels and Cowboys once this year from my quick review of their draw...
Also - it's a 25 round comp with 16 teams.

But I agree - as long as the comp is built on revenue, you need to scrap compensating poor performers situations where a "down" team is playing teams who might be "up" twice, and other "down" teams only once.....
