We complain that our mid-20s players aren't good enough and that's the main reason we're shit. Let's look at the 23-26 year olds.

Docherty - recruited by MM
Cripps - Recruited by MM
Byrne - MM
Plowman - Bolton
Shaw - Bolton
Phillips - Bolton
Lamb - Bolton
Kerridge - Bolton
Mullet - Bolton
Oshea - Bolton

What's the point of a list re-build that needs re-building 3 years later?

2 points:

1: The problem with the MM era isn’t the 2 stars you’ve listed, it’s the 15 other blokes brought into the club who weren’t up to the standard and had to be moved on.

2: I have real doubts on the recruitment of Shaw and O’Shea, but the rest are necessary. We traded out our proven mid-tier players and attacked the draft with the picks we received in return. We then had no mid-tier players left on the list and had to fill those gaps on the cheap (not giving up valuable picks we could invest in youth). That’s led to a weak group of players in that age bracket and will only be properly rectified with time.

I agree.

You guys have read my post the wrong way. I was referring to the players in their mid-20s - not comparing MM to BB. MM had more than his fair share of @#$%&! ups. But 3 of the mid-20 players are in our best.

The fact that those other 7 players, brought in as part of our list re-build, are in our best 24 players is an indication of where our club is at. They wouldn't be in most teams top 36.

I bet $100 that 5 are not with the club in 2 years. If they are - god help us.

Carlton have renegotiated their deal with Brendon Bolton, locking in the senior coach until at least the 2020 season.

Bolton is on a unique rolling employment agreement with the club rather than a straight contract, but it is understood the terms of this agreement were revised early this year to give him a pay rise and a stronger commitment until the end of 2020.

Dont see any point in changing the coach for 2019 - that is the year when we are supposed to see one of the fruit. Giving him 2 years when the team has completed the rebuild sounds reasonable given that he doesn't appear a total tool.

This should send a very strong message to all those clubs preparing to throw buckets of cash to poach him away. BACK OFF, LOSERS, HE'S OURS!!

Smart decision whether he works out long term or not.

What if we only, say, win 2 games and don't beat teams at pour level like Brisbane and St.Kilda. I know we've had injuries but i'm not totally sold either. Having said i'm not totally unsold either as things might change as the season goes. I'll let things take their course. Our players have looked like they have no idea what they're supposed to be doing at times this year, which is a coaching thing.

Dumb decision
Worst Coach ever to have coached over 50 games
Malthouse was only given 2 and a bit years and we give this bloke 5
His pitiful leadership is why we are in this predicament.

See 2 can play at these games

It takes many people to destroy a football club.

You’re right of course!

Though you’re so totally wrong in the Murphy thread it makes me wonder if you’re not actually...

...TOTALLY WRONG!!!

playing the worst brand of footy the AFL has ever seen and on pace for the worst season on record. so, it's great to see cfc on the front foot to lock the architect of all that up for another two seasons.

the smart thing to do would have been to wait until the season concluded, possibly conduct a review into what went wrong and if our course has been altered moving forward (ie has this "rebuild" just been extended a few seasons, or was this season just a bump in the road). you know, doing the due diligence this proud club is famous for.

I think it was the final qtr last week when the players rallied that won the Board over. Inspirational.

yep should have held Bolts accountable for every poor game, make him sweat, make him decide to hunt for points, for short-term fixes, for ways to appease the masses, cos you know, we all know so much about football.

instead this stupid club has given him time, has backed him (and themselves) to get it right, to understand there will be some shaky steps in this rebuild but it is a rebuild, and we have to be patient - when the core of this team grows into 50 -150 game players things will change quickly. Add 2 seasons to the players below - say 30 - 40 games.

Cripps - 68 - 98+
Docherty - 92 - 122+
Lang - 46 games - 76+
Weitering - 46 - 76+
Curnow - 34 - 64+
Marchbank - 27 - 57+
Dow - 9 - 39+
OBrien - 6 - 36+
McKay - 7 - 37+
SPS - 29 - 59+
Fisher - 26 - 56+
Silvagni - 32 - 62+
Plowman - 69 - 129+
Pickett - 10 - 40+
Williamson - 15 - 45+
Kennedy - 24 - 54+
Cunningham - 14 - 44+
Polson - 3 - 33+
Byrne -17 - 47+
Kerr - 1 - 31+
Phillips - 34 - 64+
Graham 42 - 72+
Macreadie - 8 - 38+
Garlett - 25 - 55+
De Koning - 0 - 30+
Schumacher - 0 - 30+

aided hopefully by seniors
Kreuzer - 167 - 207+
Ed Curnow - 130 - 166+

I know all will not make it
Even younger blood will be added

and maybe a couple more than Ed and Kruise become veterans
and we add some more experience (but strong players)
but the point is - that is a very inexperienced list.

That was the first order of the day for Bolts - turn the soil, fertilize the ground, plant the seeds.

Give them time - I am very happy with that list. It needs midfielders (this year perhaps) but otherwise (to me) it looks strong just really inexperienced..
