Can someone actually tell me what it is that Collingwood, Hawthorn, Richmond & Essendon* stand for? What is that "characteristic" that their fans identify with & encourages them to buy up memberships?
What is it that keeps their fans engaged? How is it that we are so far behind the membership race?

Is it that the Pies have a recent flag? The Hawks have drafted club champions, team of the century types & have won flags accordingly. Bombers us against them mentality? Tigers well can't quite figure that one.

hahaha

talk to carlton supporters and see if they feel they belong to anything that means something to them anymore
its about identifying

nobody can identify with this rubbish we get served up.. its not the results on the footy field for me.. but in the end it all crystalises onto the footy field anyway

thats where all is translated

A lot of it is psychology, PR and good membership packages. Pair that with regular bouts of 'that winning feeling', and you get a good club.

Oh and enthusiasm from the employees of the club. That helps.

Given the latest video/audio technologies available these days perhaps the club could start up an online virtual social club for members...?

socializing...

All sections of the club, board, admin, coteries, coaches, players, members should be open and communicating with each other...

That's what a club should be. Spirit of Carlton dare I say.

Fanatical Richmond supporter at work said their fans had really embraced Hardwick and Gale. He said they liked their honest assessment of the club, that they would go through the draft and that it would take time.

Raised it 2-3yrs ago directly with the club Directors and Management, in person, the Liverpoolfc.tv model of digital engagement.

The club has improved the digital content since (tick), but provided it for free.

When Eddie took over Collingwood back in the late 90's he talked of a line by line reconstruction of the club from top to bottom said it would take time, he smiled through gritted teeth through their wooden spoons but never wavered off the message that it would take time, their membership bought the message and waited patiently but the club delivered.

We on the other hand have engaged in band aid list fixes and we're comings since 2002, sure our membership increased through the "it's my club its personal days, our members have waited patiently since then but We've had 13 years to sort things out since 2002, and nothings changed.

Other clubs have bottomed out ane sorted themselves out and won flags in that time, look at Hawthorn.

Our members/supporters are tired of listening to empty rhetoric if board members who don't realty understand, and highly paid executives of the club whose hearts really are not in what they are doing and we've stagnated as result.

The only thing that's kept me going for the past 2 years is watching Essendon* flower themselves, however like Synbad says they are probably going to bounce back bigger and better, and be in a better place than us, and for me that will be particularly galling.

At the AGM, Trigg told a group of us that we too would be going down the drafting path , with no more big signings. He said he would much prefer 2 mids on 500K than going for Dangerfield for example if we were to trade. Yet here we are throwing the sink at Cameron. That only took 3 months for that approach to be blown away.

Distinctly different from the cash obtained from the greed and corruption of the cardboard industry, from what I understand.
