He's hopeless

For once the club should use a top 15 pick to draft a key forward

In an ideal world, you would draft the key forward this year given they take longer to develop.

He's more competitive than Jones or Levi and would have cost little more than the pick we used to get Holman.

I wonder if Sydney would have given us him in the pick swap if we chucked in 51?

Really?

Can't say I've noticed.

They've had him put on kilos and stand as more of a deep target at Collingwood, though he has lost weight this year.

End-of-2013 White was a 103-105 kg running tall in the Waite variety. Imagine him as our ruck-forward instead of Levi.

Imagine if we still had the Jones pick; there were some good names still on the board that went before pick 60. What would they have added to the list long term?

Can't say I've noticed White play well this year.

Heard him mentioned in the Pies v saints game once or twice, but the Pies won that with a leg in the air.

Before this year he was spudilicious. If you'd spent any pick on him you'd have been wasting it.

Not sure if Sticks would get a kick in our forwardline ATM.

White played well I his first 3 NAB games with the Pies...not outstanding but good whilst the ball delivery couldn't miss him. Can't say delivery to jones and Levi has been as good as he got.

White has been a disappointment since. Overrated by jimmae Imo. Sure he would have been a cheap get but that's not the answer.

5.5 in 3 games this year with 6 contested marks and 8 marks inside 50.

Goal a game his entire career while playing the ruck relief role. Athletic talent and takes the game on in the forward 50. Have wanted him at the club for some time and was staggered we didn't bite harder when he was squeezed out.

Sounds like Jones.

I too wanted him if we couldn't pride Read from the Swans.

What I think is that Jones will get better but he'd have to be a lot better to make him worthwhile.

White was dropped last year.

Both average. Case of who you like better Abbott or Shorten. Same same Imo.

White still kicked 20 goals and had 108 hitouts. Again, they got him heavier for some dumb reason last year.

Swans had him physically flying in 2013 but were having him push way up with his running ability to drag a KPD out of the way.

David King's assessment on what we need to do with our list:

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-pre ... 7316011629

Interesting analysis, cant say I disagree. I'm not sure that what we would get for Walker would be worth what we lose.

Also some stuff around about Hendo to Geelong:

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/geelon ... 7316575151

Whilst not keen on trading him, if he has currency and could get us an 'overs' deal in return Hendo might be the kind of sacrifice we would have to make to rebuild, Croad to Fremantle type deal? (in theory anyway, wouldnt expect geelong to have the picks Fremantle gave up for Croad).

Good link 2nd.
Saved me writing up summary.

Wheatley asked what Carlton can do over the next 19 weeks.
FMD and it's only round 4.
Really disappointing MLoC & Co didn't make this decision end of season and before draft.
I mean what's the point doing it in effect 4 weeks later?
The Board and the Coach are a joke.

Anyway, put down the rear view mirrors and look forward.

King says "we have to finish the year with answers on your list"

Interesting how King " brackets them up"

The Locks: those we must keep as players at Carlton with a purpose.

Docherty
Jamison
Tuohy
Simpson
Judd
Everitt
Jaksch
Cripps
Whiley
and maybe add another couple...

The Goddards: prepared to part company with one or two for draft picks

Walker
Gibbs
Murphy...IMO if he's prepared to go
Yarran...IMO gives us a reason to watch the footy.
Kreuzer...let's see if he can stand up for a season. We need one bonafide ruck.
Casboult.....we can? If so, do so...if we can't fix up his kicking
Henderson....Geelong sniffing?....if we can't entice for Walker Imo

Viable? Are they the future? Some are but which ones?

Carrazzo
Curnow
Bell...IMO should be further developed
Warnock
Wood
Armfield
Ellard
Watson...depth?...may improve? FF till we get one?
White
Rowe

Prove it. These guys need to prove it after blocks of games.

Jones...IMO can be useful as 3rd tall if supply is better. Not a FF.
Buckley...IMO should be able to build a body for AFL
Tutt
Graham
Holman
Johnson
Sheehan...IMO showed good signs last year
Byrne...IMO already shown signs

Menzel would be good trade bait to Geelong. He has talent but I think he doesn't do enough.

I remember watching the SA side in 2012 and looking at Mayes, Broomhead, Aish & the like with Menzel. He had them all covered with talent but he is inferior to all 3 at the AFL level.

He's young enough for a decent coach to get a consistent effort out of him.
He's got the ability to be a match winner.
Must retain.

He can be a match winner. True.
But unless you can cover the ground and play big midfield minutes, you won't last in the AFL.
Menzel still struggles to run games out some 3 years into his AFL career.
His talent disorts his output.

I'd prefer to go as hard as possible to get a trade for Walker, rather than trade Menzel.

Carlton won't be able to best capitalise on Walker's value/talent in the time he has left.
I suppose it depends on how much money Walker is expecting for his next contract.

Menzel could be anything, and if his work effort doesn't materialise, then there's still time to trade him in a 2-3 years time - he's much more likely to hold his value & provide us with trade currency compared to, say, Garlett.

Imagine is we had recruited Watts/and or Cloke with the big money deals we apparently threw at them over the past few years. :yikes:

Stevie J took a while to reach a level.

I reckon Menzel has the same amount of talent but a better temperament.

No sense in trading him now.
