I don't think you should view it as a rebuild. You should view it as knocking out the non load-bearing wall and making the kitchen and living room open plan. I would also extend the eaves to create a covered patio.

You're talking like it's Habitat for Humanity, when in reality - it's merely a double episode of Renovation Rescue.

So we never had a good side ... we never had the potential to make a Prelim or Grand Final ... this was a very ordinary group of players. Well ... if thats the case ... you can't have it both ways. We made finals 3 out of 5 years after dwelling for years at the bottom of the ladder. Once we came very very close to making a prelim ... we must have been so well coached to get a team of crap players to perform so well.

YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

Malthouse made a statement at the start of the year of what he thought of the team he inherited ... has everyone forgotten that.

Now we have a crap side with little potential according to some posters.

Players that were in our best last year ... like Laidler and Yarran are suddenly not up to it and there is a reason for that. Murphy can't get his hands on the pill. Carrots is injured ... McLean is old ... Judd has had his day ... Waite is too injury prone etc etc etc. Injuries and poor talent suddenly become an excuse for poor man management ... weak tactical decisions and lack of forsight at the selection table.

We have a better squad than last year with less injuries ... and we probably won't make the 8 unless Essendon** get the chop.

Completely agree with Robert Walls about our situation ... different rules for different coaches.

Malthouse has made a big fat hash of things this year. Players have not responded to his coaching ... or he just has not got the message through and on top of that the MC have been hopeless and timid. Instead of moving forward ... we are moving backwards ... and a team which had potential has been marked for re-building. We had a chance to swing some changes to a side that had a number of players down ... and what did we do ... lambs to the slaughter ... pathetic.

Oh come on
Judd is half the player he was in 2011
Laidler can't move, have you watched him?
Yarran hasn't stood up when the defensive torch has been shone on him. Sure he looked good when he could free run under Ratten.
Simpson can't play midfield anymore
Scotland age has dropped his output by 10%
Carrazzo as above
Murphy's output has diminished without Judd's protection
Henderson, Walker, Bootsma, Thouey, Watson, Garlett have all improved this year.
Pointing the finger at a coach who had five years is reasonable. Torching a coach who has had 20 games is just bias.
The reasonable position is to face the fact that it will take 3 drafts from here to turn the ship around and Malthouse needs 4 seasons
to get us playing a style that can get us to top 4. That is 26 games less than Ratten. I will make the call now Malthouse has got to do for Carlton what Walls did for Brisbane and get the foundation right. I doubt he will win us premiership.

How is winning one elimination final in 5 years suddenly equal to "the potential to make a Prelim or Grand Final". Our highest ladder position in all that time was fifth ... and our losses to Sydney (Trent Denis Lane) and Brisbane (Paul Bower on Bradshaw) in the other years from very winnable positions were pathetic.

If Mick wasn't on $1mill a year I would actually feel sorry for him. He must be wondering what the hell he was thinking taking over a list of average footballers with little drive or hunger.

Mick is the king of spin ... and people just run with it ...

Laughable. He has stuffed things up ... and people congratulate him on a fine performance ... pathetic.

Uninspiring tactically on match day, terrible man management throughout the year ... and unbelievable lack of vision at the selection table.

And still we excuse him ... amazing.

C'mon Michael. Micks the mastercoach. We should have 2-3 Premierships for us by now.

With the recruiting and development over the past 5-6 years we should be unbeatable. How lucky have we been with Hughes & Rogers? I shudder to think what position we'd be in without them.

It's embarrassing what he has done to the club and it's players this season. He's been too hard on them. They need to be cuddled. Who cares if they don't tackle or follow team rules. That's too much to expect of anyone on the AFL. Praise them, tell them they are stars, along as they sleep well at night and get paid who cares. The individual is more important than the club.

Get the Pratts to pay MM out and get Roos!!!

Couldn't agree more. The guys had 20 games. It's embarrassing.

The sooner he is moved on the better.

Wrong, bring back Ratts , then we may have a better chance of keeping, Davies, Joseph and Waite. And if we are really lucky, he may be able to persuade Russell, Bower and Grigg to come back.

Good answer.

So next year expect top 4 by your reckoning.

Ratten from 16>>>>>>>>>>8th in two years
Micky from 10>>>>>>>>>>>4th in two years

that's your equation, and I'm giving you some leeway

Then consistent top 4 for three years after that.

Unfortunately ... we are stuck with him for at least 2 more years. He has all the important people at the club bluffed ... even some the supporters refuse to believe what Mick himself has said in the past ... let alone the expectations of what was reasonable for him to achieve with a better less injured list. Only people like Robert Walls can see through the shiny facade.

The damage has been immense ... and people just put back on the rose colored glasses ... Talk about spin.

But the bottom line is we are stuck. The idea of facing another 2 years with Mick at the helm is indeed a daunting prospect ... and even worse is the damage this bloke could do through that tenure.

We have to have to get through this somehow ... maybe look to 2018 onwards for success ... I hope I am still around.

Even Barassi took four years....it's round 21.
The players who helped us last year are way down on output, Judd, Murphy, Carrazzo, Betts, and B&F Scotland.
That's the best of out list right there, I'd say we have practically overachieved.

If we had 13 Cyril Rioli's I'm sure we'd be fifth on the ladder right now and ready for the run home.

Redback,

I don't think you understood what I wrote. It will take until Malthouse 4th year to get us challenging for a top 4 side. That is 2016 and beyond and even that would be a mighty effort with this list = 3 drafts (2013, 2014, 2015). I don't expect us to make the 8 next year.

Ratten inherited a wooden spooner and took them to the finals within 2 years
16>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>8
Malthouse inherited a 10th team so in (two years) the same games as Ratten should take them top 4
10>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4
Going by time frame with inherited lists with leeway
Same games coached.
