Am I missing something?

I thought Laidler was ok last week. Sure he missed a couple of spoils but at leats his errors were made trying to impact the contest. We defended well for the first 3 quarters and I think he was a key plank in helping quell the aerial threat of Cloke, etc. When he went off at the 3 min mark of the 4th quarter our defensive structure fell apart.

IMO Tuohy, Davies and Bootsma all stand off the marking contest and don't have enough confidence to play a constrcutive role in us coming out of the backline.

Laidler is just struggling a little with fitness and if fully fit wouldn't have been discarded this week.

Watched him moving on Tuesday and it became apparent that he wouldn't be playing in this match, unfortunately.

Hope the guy can get back to his best as he makes for a terrific complement to Jamison and Henderson

He just needs some essence of calves blood, extract of pigs brain, eye of newt and pinch of wolfsbane and he'll be tickety boo.

it's a relief to know his worth is noted, albeit when he is ready.

 Not sure what he needs cimm.

Looks to be a little heavier than last year but is running twice as heavy as he was in 2011.

Some have mentioned that he may have lost some speed for his knee issues last year and that may well be the case, but I just see him as being unfit for now.

Speeeeeeeed!

That's what it looks like Psych...and it makes sense when you look at why we have had some sort of success against the Cats in the last 5 years.

I like you team, and I don't mind Joseph but I have lost faith in Davies TBH.
I didn't blame him for the WCE finals loss as many did, but he has done SFA since that game.
He seems clumsy. I just hope he has a ripper.

Clearances and desperation for the ball in numbers...sounds like the Cats.

SOJ to have an impact and become the newfound blood we needed to inject into this team would be a great story. Can't wait to see him in the seniors. I'm not expecting much from him other than sub coming on in the 4th.
We can win this.

For once I am very happy with the selected team. I can see a method to it.

I'm not a fan of AJ with the ball, but if he can stop an opponent ... ok.
Scotland will add a bit of toughness and smarts to the defence.
Hammer deserves his spot if fit.
Buckley ... always good to keep giving the youngsters a taste.

Boots .. will continue his education in the VFL. He'll be back.
Cas .. same deal.
Bell .. I don't like bringing in players for one game then dropping them - this is my only question on selections.
Laids .. didn't look "right" to me. A few games in the two's to regain form and fitness and he'll be back.

Grrr ... Davies and Joseph ... I just don't get it.

Bell is a player of potential that really needs more time in the Carlton side.

He is but he is extremely raw. I have no doubt he has gone back to work on a couple of things. The main thing is his positioning at the stoppages and his defensive work.

He doesn't have the depth of experience of a lot of our kids and needs to work on a number of basic skills. He will go back and work on some things and will be back. IMO he is an important part of our future.

Exactly.

No shame in going back to the VFL this year from what I've gleaned.
The players have the support and development system there to get them back into the seniors should they follow all the instructions.

Worked for Joseph last week.

The implication in what you write BBW is that Davies and Joseph do not have potential. All players can improve. In Davies' case he's only played 16 games - could be plenty of upside if we stick with him. Joseph I have some issues with, but the coaches/selectors aren't idiots - they must see something. My hope with AJ is that he can come to understand his limitations and play within them. MM should be good for that. He might become a valuable shut down player if he can do this.

Really hope not but wouldn't be surprised at all.
I thought he was great R1 - whilst Levi and Rowe contest and bring the ball to ground - neither look like taking a pack mark whereas Hammer is starting to do that. Just needs confidence in his shots for goal. Or actually needs to kick straighter so he gets confidence!
